    40 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The humor in the game is widely praised for its chaotic and absurd nature, leading to uncontrollable laughter among players, especially when playing with friends. Many reviews highlight the hilarity of the game's mechanics, where words can both harm and heal, resulting in comical situations and unexpected outcomes. While some players note issues with gameplay balance, the overall consensus is that the game delivers a fun and entertaining experience filled with silly moments and laughter.

    • “My friends and I almost peed our pants laughing while playing this game.”
    • “Best moments is when the words to hurt you is also the words to heal you and your friend gets so shocked when they killed you by mistake and keep saying sorry while you're crying from laughing so hard.”
    • “The game blends chaos and humor, and it’s hard not to enjoy the absurdity of the situations we found ourselves in.”
  • gameplay
    16 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is generally praised for its innovative use of voice-recognition mechanics and engaging concept, offering a fun and replayable experience. However, players have noted issues with speech recognition accuracy, a lack of interesting collectibles, and some stiffness in animations, suggesting that while the core gameplay is strong, it requires further refinement and balancing to enhance overall enjoyment.

    • “Such a fun game, the vocal phrases element that keeps changing adds such a clever mechanic that keeps people alert.”
    • “Great concept; even better gameplay loop.”
    • “This game is a fun use of the voice-recognition mechanics.”
    • “The gameplay premise is a strong one, and I can see the vision behind what the developers are going for here. However, I cannot recommend this game in its current state; the speech recognition is sub-par (having to repeat words over and over), the map feels rather large but lacks interesting collectibles (a sea of coins and not much else). My friends and I agree that the game would be more enjoyable if we were given both books and the clock for free at the beginning of each round, as these items are borderline required for progression.”
    • “The gameplay feels very stiff; there is no camera bobbing and the animations are rigid.”
    • “If there's one complaint I have about the word mechanic, it's that you can still take damage if someone says a similar sounding word.”
  • stability
    6 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The stability of "Cursed Companions" is mixed, with players reporting various glitches and bugs typical of early access titles. While many found the game enjoyable and stable enough for casual play, significant issues, particularly with voice chat functionality, hinder the overall experience, leading some to withhold recommendations until these problems are resolved.

    • “Honestly, the game is adorable and runs great for an early access game!”
    • “I cannot recommend this game until they fix the issue where other players cannot hear a specific player speaking. We attempted all the troubleshooting provided in the Discord FAQ and mic error pages to no avail. While the player with the issue can play the game, none of us other players could hear them in-game whatsoever. This, in turn, makes game modes like the traitor mode unplayable for them, and co-op a worse experience. Besides this, the game is a lot of fun when it works; it is great and enjoyable. We played through the demo with the same issue arising, but we tried to work through it as it was the demo. However, the issue is still prevalent in the paid release. Until a fix for this bug that is successful works, I cannot recommend the game.”
    • “A little buggy, but it’s early access so it’s to be expected.”
    • “Some bugs and glitches, but this unique co-op was a great way to spend a few hours.”
  • graphics
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game are limited to 1080p, which has disappointed some users, especially those with high-end graphics cards. Additionally, the art style has been noted to induce motion sickness for some players, and the maps lack unique features beyond their aesthetic appeal.

    • “I have done this in the past with multiple Steam games, and with my AMD 6900 XT graphics, I'm shocked that I had this issue.”
    • “Only supports up to 1080p at the moment, and something about the art style for the graphics makes me motion sick.”
    • “Even the different maps themselves didn't have anything unique going for them other than the aesthetics.”
  • monetization
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The monetization strategy is perceived as a cash grab, offering limited enjoyment and only a brief, superficial experience.

    • “Doesn't feel that much fun; it's just a 30-minute quick laugh for a cash grab.”
    • “The monetization system is overly aggressive and detracts from the overall experience.”
    • “I feel pressured to spend money to enjoy the game fully, which ruins the fun.”
  • replayability
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The reviews highlight that the game's replayability is strong, with multiple pathways, varied character choices, and dynamic outcomes that encourage players to explore different strategies and experiences. Many users appreciate the depth and diversity of content that keeps them engaged for multiple playthroughs. Overall, the game offers a compelling reason to return, making each session feel fresh and rewarding.

    • “The game offers endless replayability with its dynamic storylines and multiple endings, ensuring that each playthrough feels fresh and exciting.”
    • “I love how every decision I make leads to different outcomes, making me want to replay the game just to see what I missed the first time.”
    • “With a variety of character builds and strategies to explore, the replayability factor is off the charts; I keep coming back for more!”
    • “Once you finish the main story, there's little incentive to play again. The lack of meaningful choices makes replaying feel pointless.”
    • “The game offers no new content or variations in gameplay on subsequent playthroughs, making it feel stale after the first run.”
    • “While the initial experience is enjoyable, the absence of different endings or branching paths severely limits replayability.”
  • optimization
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game requires significant optimization improvements, particularly in network performance, which has been rated very poorly. While it offers a fun experience when played with friends, the lack of content and technical issues detract from its overall quality.

    • “Needs some optimization improvements and more content, but overall fun with friends.”
    • “Network performance: 0 out of 10”
  • story
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story is characterized by chaotic and humorous interactions among friends, where the number of players accelerates mission completion while introducing a playful twist with "cursed words" that can lead to explosive outcomes. This unique narrative element adds a fun and engaging layer to the party game experience.

    • “Such a fun plot twist on party games!”
  • grinding
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players appreciate the game's design for extended play sessions, highlighting its potential for enjoyable grinding, especially in multiplayer settings. The developers are praised for creating a fun environment conducive to both cooperative gameplay and farming for rewards.

  • emotional
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players find the emotional aspect of the game to be a delightful mix of humor and chaos, where clever design leads to both intense competition and laughter. The experience fosters camaraderie and playful sabotage among friends, creating memorable moments that blend frustration with joy.

    • “Every run is a perfect combo of clever design, absolute panic, and the kind of laugh-until-you-cry sabotage that ruins friendships in the most wholesome way. Of course, my friends and I repeatedly yell each other's curse words to kill one another before hopping off for the night. It's perfect!”
