Gears of War
- December 29, 2009
- Epic Games, Inc.
Despite the outward familiarity of Ultimate Edition’s control scheme and visual language (there are chest-high walls everywhere), it’s a surprisingly unique game.
"Gears of War" is a horror shooter game with support for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Chinese languages. It features a single-player campaign following Marcus Fenix, a prisoner turned soldier, in humanity's fight against the Locust Horde. The game also offers local multi-player options for up to 2 players, including co-op and split-screen modes.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition for Windows 10 takes a great title and makes it even better. Despite a few small oversights, the updated mechanics and visuals produce the best way to experience the original Gears game—if you have an Nvidia video card.
70%Gears of War Ultimate Edition review
Gears of War is fun as ever, but the technical flaws and limitations of Ultimate Edition are disappointing.

All in all, I’m happy that the port came out as well as it did, as to be honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect. It also worried me that there wasn’t any advertising for this game at all, and while that seems to be the norm for strictly PC games with minor exceptions, I feel that’s a missed mark for Microsoft. PC gamers are still gamers and we like to see the full support of the company is pushing this game, so seeing a TV commercial or two, or even on YouTube would have been nice to see. Hopefully, this all has been a test run for the main course, which would be a port of Gears of War 4 for the PC platform as well. At least one can hope that this is exactly what it is.
