    28 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game have received mixed to negative feedback, with many users noting that they appear outdated and reminiscent of '90s CD-ROM titles. While some players acknowledge that the graphics are "nicer" than its predecessor, Toribash, they also criticize the lack of detail, legibility issues, and missing features that detract from the overall experience. Additionally, there are calls for improved graphical configurability and performance enhancements, as many players struggle to run the game smoothly even at lower settings.

    • “The game needs improved graphical configurability for sure.”
    • “You want appealing visuals?”
    • “Once later TBN was announced, when I was in high school, I was so hopeful and excited for an improved version of Toribash where I could enjoy better physics, more features, more modern graphics, engine and so on.”
    • “Toribash Next is a seven-year ode to disappointment and incompetence. The physics are about as believable as a cat on a unicycle, the graphics look like they were lifted from a lost '90s CD-ROM game, and the UI is a labyrinth designed by someone who hates humanity.”
    • “Another issue is the graphics; even at the high setting, this game just looks basically the same.”
    • “As a prior player, I'm going to say the experience is generally worse than the original as well, with simplified graphics that are missing features, seemingly no dismemberment by default, non-liquid blood effects that make it barely there, and the visual for gripping has become a wireframe cube, which makes it actually pretty difficult to see amidst four-player fights.”
  • stability
    26 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's stability is heavily criticized, with numerous reports of severe bugs and glitches that render it nearly unplayable. Many users express disappointment, stating it feels unfinished and lacks the features and polish of the original game. Overall, the consensus is that the game is a buggy mess, and players are advised to stick with the original version until significant improvements are made.

    • “Buggy to the point where it can be hard to actually play the game.”
    • “Disappointing, it is obviously unfinished, it's very buggy and clunky, and it's basically a worse version of the original. On top of that, the things that are new are definitely not worth the 7 years of wait.”
    • “As it currently stands, it's a buggy mess that is borderline unplayable. The dev is working to fix it; we'll see how it goes. I will change my review to positive if this game gets fixed, but as of right now, I just can't recommend it.”
  • gameplay
    22 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay of the game has received mixed reviews, with many players finding it initially difficult to grasp due to clunky mechanics and poor physics. While some appreciate the unique combat concept reminiscent of Toribash, others criticize the game for its lag, unbalanced mechanics, and numerous bugs, leading to an overall feeling of instability and frustration. The lack of content and challenges in finding matches further detracts from the experience, leaving players hopeful for future improvements.

    • “I absolutely love Toribash; it is such a breath of fresh air when it comes to unique combat mechanics. I wish it would make its way to console so that it could truly soar. As for this so-called second game, it just lacks an enormous amount of content.”
    • “The overall gameplay revolves around joint manipulation and playing around with forces.”
    • “The standard 4 mods do not highlight the game's strengths, albeit they show improved weapon and modding mechanics.”
    • “The gameplay feels clunky and uninspired, like trying to dance with two left paws.”
    • “It is unstable, the menus are glitchy (e.g. you are unable to scroll through the player list), the gameplay is laggy and skippy, and there are parts of the physics not loading properly.”
    • “Right now it's Toribash with a shader and more unstable gameplay (and no mods).”
  • humor
    10 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The humor in the game is characterized by its intentionally poor ghost previews that amusingly glitch out, alongside unique and funny controls. Players find the comedic elements engaging, with some suggesting that other games like "Burn Your House Simulator" offer even more laughs, while "Toribash" also has its moments of humor, especially in multiplayer. Overall, the humor is a notable highlight, contributing to the game's charm.

    • “Ghost previews are so hilariously bad they glitch out of existence when simulating grabbing things.”
    • “The controls are unique and really funny.”
    • “Toribash next 4 player can be funny though.”
  • optimization
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Overall, the game's optimization has received significant criticism, with players noting poor performance, bugs, and a lack of essential features like tutorials. While some feel it is more optimized than its predecessor, many argue that it suffers from slower reaction times, limited customization options, and a mobile-like experience that detracts from gameplay. The inclusion of a cash shop further detracts from the overall experience, leading to a perception of the game as unplayable for some users.

    • “Although it has less configuration options and customization, this version feels more optimized than the original, resembling a mobile lite version.”
    • “Poor optimization and bugs make the game unplayable even though it came out 6 years after it was supposed to.”
    • “It tries to achieve what the original did but with worse graphics, economy, customization, and performance.”

  • monetization
    6 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The monetization strategy of the game has been criticized as a cash grab, with early microtransactions introduced before the game even functions properly. Players express disappointment over the lack of item transfer from the original game and the implementation of a battle pass, which detracts from the overall experience.

    • “Instead of building upon the strengths of the original game, it feels like a lazy cash grab - a pale imitation of its former self.”
    • “But hey, at least we have microtransactions.”
  • emotional
    6 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players express frustration and disappointment with the game's emotional impact, highlighting a sense of disillusionment after investing significant time in the original. The music in the game has received negative feedback for its poor mixing and altered sound quality, with tracks being taken from the original game but suffering from significant changes that detract from the overall experience. Users have noted that the stereo levels are particularly problematic, further diminishing the enjoyment of the soundtrack.

    • “This game's sounds are all mixed horribly, which is most evident in the music.”
    • “Each song that appears in the game is ripped from the original game, which would be nice, if they didn't completely change how they sound and screw with the stereo levels.”
  • replayability
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players highlight the game's strong replayability, noting that it consistently feels fresh and engaging with each return.
