A fantastic entry to the series with lots of replay value thanks to Raid Mode. While the campaign may be short, Raid Mode itself is alone worth the dollars you pay for the game.

The story of "Resident Evil: Revelations 2" follows two intertwined narratives: Claire Redfield and Moira Burton attempting to escape a nightmarish island, while Barry Burton seeks to rescue his daughter six months later. While some players appreciate the engaging character dynamics and plot twists, others criticize the episodic structure for disrupting narrative flow and the need to purchase additional episodes to complete the story. Overall, the story is seen as a mix of intriguing elements and familiar tropes, with varying opinions on its depth and execution.
“The game follows two storylines: Claire Redfield and Moira Burton (Barry’s daughter) trying to escape from an island prison filled with horrors, and Barry Burton, who arrives six months later to do what dads do best—rescue his kid while complaining about the mess.”
“The episodic structure works well, keeping the story engaging, and the partner system adds an interesting dynamic to both combat and puzzle-solving.”
“The story is surprisingly engaging, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing.”
“The game's story is a bit of a mess, with some convoluted plot twists and characters that feel more like cardboard cutouts than actual people.”
“On top of that, this game's main story takes a backseat to Moira, Barry Burton's daughter, moaning and complaining about how her dad is a piece of crap, that she is the way she is because of him, and in the midst of being attacked by monsters will do nothing but say how much she hates him.”
“I don't recommend this game because if you want to finish the story you have to buy every episode; it seems to me a waste of money to finish the story of the game.”

The gameplay of "Resident Evil: Revelations 2" has received mixed reviews, highlighting both its strengths and weaknesses. Players appreciate the engaging dual-character mechanics that allow for strategic gameplay and puzzle-solving, as well as the return to survival horror elements reminiscent of earlier titles in the series. However, criticisms include clunky controls, frustrating AI companions, and a reliance on episodic content that can disrupt pacing and immersion, leading to a somewhat uneven experience overall.
“The gameplay is where things get interesting.”
“The dual-character mechanic introduces a fresh dynamic, allowing for some clever puzzle-solving moments, especially when partnered with AI or a friend in co-op mode.”
“The gameplay blends action, survival horror, and inventive co-op mechanics to make something that’s exciting, but still true to the sinister atmosphere of the original games.”
“The gameplay and game controls, however, are just as scuffed and frustrating as always, and if you're playing on keyboard and mouse, the sensitivity adjustments are very poor, so even the lowest settings can still be too high for some players.”
“The story is bad, the gameplay is bad, the characters are generic and boring, the level design is unbelievably bad and all you see the whole game is the same stupid enemies copy pasted all over the place, this game has nothing to offer and I'm just playing for the sake of completion.”
“Only worth it for raid mode, story is bland, characters are boring, not worth it for regular gameplay, it feels like a chore, sadly you will have to bear with story mode until you can finally play raid mode fully, will never recommend this boring game.”

The graphics of "Resident Evil Revelations 2" receive mixed reviews, with many praising the character models and atmospheric design that effectively capture the horror elements of the game. While some players find the visuals to be impressive for a title of its age, others criticize them as outdated and inconsistent, particularly when compared to more recent entries in the franchise. Overall, the game's graphics are seen as decent but not groundbreaking, with some technical issues like frame drops and a film grain effect detracting from the experience.
“The visuals are stunning for a game of its style, capturing the eerie atmosphere of the creepy environments perfectly.”
“The graphics are top-notch, with stunning visuals that really bring the island to life.”
“From the dilapidated and eerie settings to the meticulously crafted character models, the game's visuals set the stage for a terrifying and suspenseful experience.”
“Visuals were such a drag (and yes, I know, RE visuals should indeed look dead and miserable) and the monsters felt like a step back for the RE franchise in general.”
“The graphics are absolute horseshit for a 2015 game, even though Capcom is claiming that the game was lower budget, when the RE1 game has better graphics than this.”
“The graphics feel cheap, texture resolution is noticeably low and lighting is somewhat strange.”

The optimization of the game has been widely criticized, with many players reporting significant stuttering, frame rate drops, and performance issues even on high-end PCs. While some patches have improved the situation, many still experience inconsistent performance, particularly during specific actions or transitions. Overall, the game is considered poorly optimized, with calls for further updates to address these ongoing issues.
“Optimization of the game - 7/10”
“Game graphics are quite good for a side Resident Evil entry and the game is well optimized.”
“The game is well optimized, it could run great on a toaster with no problem, the mouse aiming is a bit weird, and there isn't a good sensitivity slider.”
“Very unoptimized port, it ran "smooth" here but I still had stutters during play, wouldn't recommend it.”
“The game is poorly optimized on average PCs, leading it to run really bad, and crash the game.”
“This has to be the most poorly optimized PC game I've ever played.”

The atmosphere in "Resident Evil Revelations 2" is widely praised for its immersive and creepy environments, effectively capturing the essence of survival horror reminiscent of earlier titles in the series. Players appreciate the game's ability to create tension through detailed graphics, sound design, and a sense of isolation, although some feel that certain areas lack memorable moments. Overall, the game successfully blends horror elements with engaging gameplay, making it a standout entry in the franchise.
“The game's atmosphere is top-notch, with creepy environments that'll make you feel like you're walking through a haunted house (which, spoiler alert, you kind of are).”
“The oppressive atmosphere and dark environments accentuate the sense of imminent danger, creating intense moments of tension.”
“Resident Evil Revelations 2 delivers atmospheric and visually stunning environments that immerse players in its dark and chilling world.”
“There is no atmosphere here; I can't remember a single time where I was tense while walking through an area or fighting a mutated monster.”
“It feels...good, the gameplay's pretty solid and the atmosphere rocks at certain parts in the game but unfortunately, it doesn't stick with you since a lot of the areas you'll proceed through are so short which makes them forgettable.”
“Atmosphere could have been better; there are a lot of interesting settings and bizarre enemies, however, the music was not matching the environment in most of the times (especially during the first two episodes).”

Resident Evil Revelations 2 boasts high replayability, primarily driven by its engaging raid mode, which offers numerous unlockables, multiple difficulty levels, and varied gameplay experiences. Players appreciate the campaign's replay value through collectibles and different endings, although some feel the story mode lacks depth compared to its predecessor. Overall, the game is recognized for its extensive content and addictive multiplayer features, making it a worthwhile experience for both solo and co-op play.
“This is the highlight of the game for me and it gives the game some replay value after a first playthrough.”
“The raid mode is highly addictive and offers a good dose of replayability for enthusiasts who want to prolong the gameplay experience.”
“Revelations 2 is by far, the most replayable Resident Evil game to date, jam-packed with unlockables and oodles of game modes to appeal to both the solo casual and hardcore online player.”
“Compared to 'Resident Evil Revelations 1', I would say 1 is better than 2. Resident Evil Revelations 2's story elements are quite decent, but it isn't horror or have a deep story element like 'Resident Evil Revelations 1'. There's no special legendary custom part in 'hard mode' like the previous game where players would have replayability to play New Game Plus on harder difficulty to get better upgrades or weapons.”
“I don't think there is much replayability in the story mode, but the raid mode has kept me coming back.”
“That said, the replay value of Revelations 2's raid mode is low, because of the following few but disastrous flaws.”

“The haunting and eerie music perfectly complements the dark and tense moments, heightening the suspense and fear.”
“Music and sound are on top level - just put your headphones on and enjoy the horror Revelations 2 has to offer.”
“Music is very lackluster compared to Revelations 1, with no save theme and only loud droning generic horror music.”
“The music score is probably one of the weakest in the franchise.”
“Atmosphere could have been better; there are a lot of interesting settings and bizarre enemies, however the music was not matching the environment most of the time, especially during the first two episodes.”

The grinding aspect of the game is widely criticized for being tedious and repetitive, particularly in the raid mode, which requires extensive farming for gear and character levels. While some players find enjoyment in the grind and appreciate the cooperative elements, many express frustration over the unskippable tasks and the overall lack of engaging content, leading to a mixed reception of the grinding experience. Overall, players suggest that the grind can be rewarding but often feels excessive and detracts from the enjoyment of the game.
“You'll need a second life for grinding.”
“Tedious, unskippable web-registration with 100500 steps to even enter the main menu.”
“The raid mode was clearly meant as filler content between episodes, but now that the whole game is available it's just repetitive grindy crap.”
“Overall, I think Revelations 2 straddles the line between being tedious like Revelations 1 and genuinely tense and engaging like RE4 or 5, but also is a total hassle with how little ammo it sometimes gives you and how tight of an environment it forces you to fight in.”

The game's stability has been widely criticized, with numerous reports of freezing, stuttering, and significant frame rate drops, particularly during intense gameplay moments. Many players experienced game-breaking bugs, especially in co-op mode and during boss fights, leading to frustration and an overall perception of poor optimization. While some users noted improvements after patches, the consensus remains that the game is plagued by glitches and performance issues, making it a challenging experience for many.
“Best Resident Evil game since Resident Evil 4 and runs great on Windows 10 in 4K.”
“Since episode 3, it seems Capcom has patched those performance bugs and it runs great.”
“The game runs great with everything maxed out and at no time was the game dipping below 60 fps.”
“Serious bug where if you die in the final boss fight, the game freezes afterward, preventing you from progressing.”
“All that added with crashes due to instability and random problems like bugs and glitches, makes it easily one of the worst experiences I had in gaming.”
“At this time, the game is on the verge of being unplayable, character stutters violently, extreme inconsistent frame rates, and sometimes just straight up freezes.”

The humor in the game is a mixed bag, with many players finding it both intentionally and unintentionally funny, particularly through character dialogue and quirky moments during gameplay. Notable comedic elements include humorous callbacks to earlier Resident Evil titles, absurd character interactions, and the absurdity of certain game mechanics, such as glitching monsters. While some jokes land well, others are criticized for being forced or poorly executed, leading to a blend of cringe-worthy and genuinely amusing moments that can enhance the co-op experience.
“This game shines through local co-op with the characters being funny and quotable.”
“There are several humorous callbacks to the early installments involving sandwiches, masters of unlocking, and samurai edges.”
“Natalia, oh man she is absolutely hilarious in this game.”
“The humor feels forced and unfunny, while Barry's jokes were unintentionally funny due to being poorly written, badly translated, and delivered in an inhuman and inappropriate manner.”

The monetization strategy of the game has drawn significant criticism, with many players labeling it a "cash grab" due to the presence of microtransactions and episodic content that feels incomplete. While some microtransactions are deemed optional and not necessary for gameplay, they are viewed as manipulative and detracting from the overall experience. Overall, the monetization practices have left a negative impression, overshadowing the game's potential enjoyment.
“Decent price, microtransactions not made necessary at all, fully optional.”
“The only downside to this game is that it has microtransactions for raid mode; however, it's not required for you to pay for extra continues because you do get red gems in the main game.”
“Weirdly, Capcom decided to add microtransactions to raid mode, but they don't feel particularly valuable, so I don't know that you miss out on anything by not buying the tokens or inventory expansions.”
“Do not support this anti-consumer company; they want to destroy modding to sell you skins and microtransactions!”
“The game has 4 episodes, and episodes 2, 3, and 4 are DLC microtransactions.”
“Unfortunately, the cash grabby microtransaction campaign keeps it from being a winner.”

The emotional aspect of the game is highlighted by its touching plot and character development, particularly the relationship between Barry and Moira, which resonates deeply with players. Many reviewers express that the game evokes strong feelings, especially towards the end, with moments that are both heartwarming and heartbreaking. However, some critiques point out inconsistencies in emotional engagement, suggesting that while certain interactions are impactful, others fall flat, detracting from the overall narrative experience.
“After the first chapter, I didn't think this game could be that good, but man, near the ending of the main campaign had me so emotional. I would definitely recommend!”
“The story is amazing, and personally, my favorite character is Moira. Her character development through the story and the extra episode 'The Struggle' ended up having me emotional by the end of it.”
“Barry and his daughter Moira's story is engaging and heartfelt, leagues beyond any narrative plot in the first game.”
“This game should have never come out. Boring story, not to mention the fact you have to pay 6 pounds for each chapter. Only buy this game if you hate yourself.”
“Boring story.”

“One commendable aspect is the character development.”
“The story is amazing and personally my favorite character is Moira; her character development through the story and extra episode 'The Struggle' ended up having me emotional by the end of it.”
“The story takes place between RE5 and RE6, and gives some much-needed character development for both Claire and Barry (more than a decade of in-game time has passed since we last saw them in their respective RE games).”
“But to be honest, these old and new characters don't do much in terms of character development other than Barry and Moira.”
“The characters are likeable, but the character development never fleshes out into anything meaningful.”
“Resident Evil 5 was atrocious, both in the way of the plot and in the character development.”
