  • Good artwork and a nostalgic retro JRPG feel with atmospheric audio enhancing tension.

  • Frustrating lack of tutorial or guidance, leading to confusion about mechanics and controls.
  • Technical issues like poor UI scaling, resolution problems, inconsistent graphics, and occasional bugs.
  • story

    45 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story in "Lamia Must Die" is generally considered very short, rushed, and stripped down, often starting abruptly at the final boss fight with little to no buildup or backstory. While some find elements of the narrative and character backgrounds mildly interesting, most agree that the plot is generic, shallow, and lacks depth or meaningful character development. Overall, the game’s story is seen as minimal and unsatisfying for those expecting a traditional JRPG experience.

    • “The story itself actually sounds interesting enough as you listen to the dialogue between the characters and the lamia's backstory and intentions.”
    • “The game gives enough of a narrative prior to the battle to at least become interested in the overall story.”
    • “It had a great story plot and it really interested me and the choice between characters was a great touch.”
    • “Unfortunately, the game starts off literally at the ending, so we don't get to see or experience any of the backstory at all; you just play the final boss fight.”
    • “There was no story and no background, as well as only one fight scene with no context or reason for it.”
    • “As soon as you play, no proper backstory, no proper gameplay, just straight into a boss fight which is nearly impossible; it doesn't even deserve a rating.”
  • gameplay

    28 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is largely centered around a single challenging boss fight, with minimal content or story development leading up to it, which some players find lacking. While the mechanics can be enjoyable and reminiscent of classic RPGs, they are often poorly explained or feel out of place, leading to confusion and frustration. Despite its rough edges and short length, the gameplay offers a fun, if limited, experience.

    • “The gameplay is genuinely hard.”
    • “I'll be honest that the voice-acting in this game is truly amazing, so is the gameplay as it has that Final Fantasy feeling for anyone that played Final Fantasy (FF for short).”
    • “This game's mechanics are really good and consistent with little to no gameplay glitches.”
    • “As soon as you play, no proper backstory, no proper gameplay, just straight into a boss fight which is nearly impossible to beat.”
    • “The gameplay consists of nothing other than a big, epic boss battle.”
    • “From a gameplay point of view, the game is a very simple RPG; it really only consists of one major battle from what I can tell.”
  • graphics

    17 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's artwork and battle presentation are generally well-received, with positive remarks on voice acting enhancing character life. However, there are notable graphical inconsistencies, scaling issues, and some poor-quality visuals, especially with bosses, which detract from the overall experience. Despite these flaws, the GUI is fluid and the artwork ranges from nice to mediocre but remains a core aspect of the game.

    • “I really enjoy the artwork of the game.”
    • “If there's anything positive I can say about it, it is that the battle sequence and battle presentation aesthetically look well done and the usage of the voice actors is a good call to breathe life into characters.”
    • “This game runs mainly on artwork and pictures anyway and it's played through various GUIs, which all look and feel rather fluid and work well.”
    • “There are also various graphical issues that I cannot ignore.”
    • “Likewise, I couldn't tell if status effects I tried to cast on Lamia were working; I'm not sure if the text/graphics were too small or if they may have been covered by her health bar.”
    • “Graphics are bad for the boss as my 2 year old could draw better.”
  • music

    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's music is well-received for being catchy and fitting the overall theme, enhancing the enjoyable experience. While some users are unsure if it's original or stock music, they agree it complements the game effectively.

    • “The music was fitting to the theme and sounded good.”
    • “The game has a great storyline and I enjoy the music; it's very catchy and the game itself is very enjoyable.”
    • “Sound and music.”
  • grinding

    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game eliminates traditional grinding, allowing players to skip lengthy level-up phases and jump straight into the final boss battle. This approach creates a shorter, more direct experience, though some players may find it less rewarding or lacking in depth.

    • “It's a short game that contains no grinding BS and lets you just get straight to the boss and attempt to fight it.”
    • “Forget the standard level up format, let's just go to the final boss battle... tedious but in the end it did not even seem worthwhile to play.”
    • “Now I get the joy of beating the final boss without the 80+ hours of grinding to do so!”
  • replayability

    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Replayability is considered mild, with multiple character options and a good boss fight adding some value, but the overall short length limits long-term engagement.

    • “Multiple character options allow for replayability even though minor.”
    • “Good boss fight, mild replayability, not really lengthy enough for a higher score.”
  • monetization

    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game’s monetization is praised for being completely free with no microtransactions or hidden catches, offering a quick download and great value for players.

  • stability
