“Then about halfway through the campaign the game nosedives into utter crap gameplay.”

“A good portion of the checkpoints are poorly placed, the tutorial neglects to inform you of many mechanics in the game, somehow you can run faster with an LMG than a sniper rifle, stealth mechanics in this game as a whole are extremely nonsensical, there are no subtitles, the story is very uninteresting (and even if you bother to listen to it, it is unbelievably bland and adds no value to the game), the NPCs can pull off a lot of unfair moves like seeing and shooting you through barrack walls, shooting you with an assault rifle from a very unrealistic distance, when people are firing machine guns on helicopters they can shoot directly below the chopper or on the other side of it, it takes 6 rockets to make the helicopter that Crow is in flee due to damage, etc. The highest rating I could possibly give this game is a 3/10.”

“The voice acting was horrific, the graphics (unless you have a 4k mod) feel like you're playing on a potato and sometimes the enemies literally blend in with the environment to the point where I thought there was an invisible enemy type (spoiler, there is, but the ones that blended in were not them), and the fact that you can't manual save really sucked.”

“The graphics aged horribly, controls are clunky and awkward, and just flat-out unfun.”

“Graphics are inconsistent, with some assets like post processing, character and weapon models, and overall geography being nice, but then draw distance, environmental textures, and dynamic shaders just sucking so hard.”

“The final patch 1.40 is extremely buggy and you may need to revert to an older build like 1.36 to avoid issues such as enemy bullets going through all forms of cover and being aim-botted from far away where you can't see who shot you.”

“The big problem with the game is how stupidly buggy it is; AI can see and shoot through walls, hit you through fog from across the map with pinpoint accuracy using close to mid-range weapons when you can't even detect their presence with binoculars. I wouldn't play this game again without downloading a mod to fix it first. The bugs certainly make it more challenging but not in a balanced and fair way, and the checkpoint saves are killer.”

“I'm mainly disappointed because this isn't the chill relaxing atmosphere of Far Cry that I was expecting (from playing FC3,4); it was constant stress, each and every single level was a pain to finish, especially because the devs were obsessed with handing RPGs to monsters.”

“- Indoor levels - where the outdoor levels were revolutionary in 2004, and what made this game so great, I have a feeling Crytek was just not brave enough to make the entire game like that, so they had to partially copy Half-Life and Doom and put some indoor levels with horror atmosphere.”

“If you don't mind patching this game up first into a playable state (still not perfect, just barely playable) and don't get frustrated easily by quite a few gamebreaking bugs which require restarts, etc., as well as having to restart a level or checkpoint which might take you 30 minutes or longer to get back to where you were before just because the game doesn't let you progress anymore or the save files got corrupted, there are lots of reasons why you might have to replay longer sections of the game due to the game's poor performance (especially in the earlier levels) and the lack of quicksaves while autosaves often get deleted for no reason.”

“Maybe the slow pacing would work if the player had regenerating health, but instead you find yourself grinding through encounter after encounter, incurring unavoidable damage, and finally facing a roomful of enemies with some 2% health or whatnot.”

“Overall whilst this is a good game, I would only recommend buying it second hand or during Steam sales as it isn’t worth paying full price because it is a single campaign that can be completed in a short time with little to no replay value. Despite this, I would recommend it to anyone who likes first person/survival based games especially older players.”
