    30 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is a mix of grid-based tactical mechanics that can initially feel clunky and unfair, particularly due to time limits and AI advantages. However, as players adapt and learn to utilize various mechanics like capturing and strategic planning, the experience can transform into a highly engaging and memorable tactical challenge. While the game is light on story, it compensates with a rich setting and solid mechanics, despite some translation issues and a lack of tutorial guidance.

    • “The game is light on story, but rich in setting and mechanically solid.”
    • “And right at that moment, confronted by true 'unfairness', having to rush through the fog of war to avoid losing by time, needing to make full use of mechanics like 'capture' in order to keep my fleet robust enough to fend off attacks, carefully planning when to do what in order to not lose by the week's time limit... at that time of seemingly unwinnable odds, the game truly 'clicked' for me.”
    • “The training wheels were off, and suddenly mechanics that I previously considered total BS like the time limit, the fog of war, the dumb AI, the repair ship, the capture command, the radar skill... everything that I neglected in my first playthrough... it all came together to make one of the most enjoyable, nail-biting tactical experiences I've ever had.”
    • “This sudden death mechanic feels broken.”
    • “Ok, this is a hard one to review. It wasn't easy for me to 'like' this game. I love turn-based tactical games like the old Front Mission series or Final Fantasy Tactics, so I purchased this game on a whim and my first impressions were... not good. The controls felt clunky (especially since there are no keyboard bindings; all you can do with it is press space to skip dialogue boxes). The battles felt unfair (with a time limit on attacks, fog of war that helps the enemy AI much more than you, and enemies with seemingly infinite soldiers and funds). Your commander's suggestions were bad and rarely had worthwhile outcomes (this is very important: never do what your commanders suggest you do; maybe they are right once in a while, but it's always better to plan everything yourself). The gameplay seemed confusing and lacked a proper tutorial (why do the ships sometimes counterattack and sometimes they don’t? Why do the abilities trigger? What is power? It's just hit points, by the way).”
    • “There are some issues with the English translation, but not enough to detract from story or gameplay.”
  • story
    24 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game features a light story but compensates with a rich setting and well-crafted lore, showcasing distinct factions and characters. While players appreciate the strategic elements and troop progression, the lack of a robust narrative and poor English localization detracts from immersion. Overall, the story is minimal but interesting, with some enjoyable events occurring during gameplay.

    • “I love strategy games with story progression.”
    • “I do like the story events that happen while you play though.”

    • “But one bit of a problem: the English localization is poor and lazy. Whoever you paid to do your localization isn't proofreading and making it coherent. I know this sounds like a nitpick, but it's hard to get invested in a story when the English is severely broken and incoherent.”
    • “While there isn't a lot of story, the setting details and lore that are given are well crafted and interesting; the creator has clearly put time into the art style and you can see the difference between factions, characters, and weapon systems.”
  • graphics

  • grinding
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players find the grinding aspect of the game to be somewhat tedious, especially due to the large map sizes that can prolong missions. While some enjoy the overall experience, they acknowledge that certain parts can feel repetitive and time-consuming.

    • “It can get a bit grindy at times.”
