“Overall, the gameplay just wasn't fun, with forced/unfair stealth, stacked odds against the heroes, overreliance on hordes of mooks/reinforcements, and superheroes who are too underpowered to feel like... well superheroes.”

“Character graphics are odd; they look bizarrely plastic to the point you almost feel you're playing a game using plastic dolls.”

Overall, the game's replayability is limited due to its linear structure and lack of variability in gameplay and character builds, resulting in a repetitive experience. While some players appreciate the content and minor dialogue changes based on team composition, many feel that the game lacks sufficient variety to encourage repeated playthroughs.

“I also want to point out that there is not much replayability in this game.”
“The only problem is replayability.”
“Which is unfortunate; with a little variety to the levels' starting conditions, the different hero combinations should provide plenty of replayability, but it just doesn't right now.”

Despite some visual shortfalls, Capes is a very solid turn-based strategy game that takes the best bits of XCOM 2 and gives it the superhero treatment. The tactical gameplay will have you thinking of the best way to position your growing roster of heroes on each turn to help you save King City from the nefarious Company. Even a predictable plot doesn't undermine how well-balanced and fun Capes is to play. Strategy and comic book fans will find plenty to enjoy here.
