Word Forward
Word Forward is an engaging puzzle game that really tests mental capacity. Despite how tough it gets, I enjoyed what can only be described as an oddly specific form of torture. By implementing a chess-level of strategy, it elevates the title to one that stands out in the overcrowded casual-puzzle game space. Word Forward makes no bones about being difficult; even with the power ups it will be a struggle to complete all of the challenges, that is unless you either take a serious amount of time carefully planning each move, or are a seasoned enigmatologist. Either way, I’d say it’s worth it to try.

A word game from Shane McCafferty.

- Offers a large number of challenging puzzles with strategic depth that appeals to puzzle and word game enthusiasts.
- Includes a unique set of modifiers/tools that add flexibility and personality to the gameplay.
- Simple, clean UI and relaxing music that create a pleasing atmosphere for the player.
- The game is very difficult from the start with no gradual learning curve or tutorial to ease new players in.
- Visual presentation is very plain and could benefit from more engaging or varied graphics to reduce screen brightness and add flair.
- Some minor interface issues such as difficulty dragging diagonally between letters and lack of Steam achievements, which can make gameplay feel monotonous.
- graphics3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
The graphics of the game are minimal, fitting its word-based nature, but many users feel the bright white screen could be toned down to reduce eye strain. Overall, visuals are basic and functional but could benefit from slight improvements for comfort.
“The only area of this game I feel could have used a little more work would have just been in the visuals.”
“Obviously, there is not much in terms of graphics as it is just a word game, however something to dampen the blinding whiteness of the screen would have been very welcome.”

70%Word Forward (Nintendo Switch)
Word Forward is a good palette cleanser between games or when you are looking for a brain teaser. You most likely won’t be playing it for several hours in a row (although with the number of puzzles, you certainly can). The puzzles are short, and unlike other word puzzles out on the Switch, it doesn’t incorporate any story or gimmicks. Instead, it’s a straightforward puzzle game that will provide you with plenty of challenges.
75%Word Forward Review (Switch)
Word Forward is a fantastic word strategy game, and one that absolutely belongs in any word nerd’s library. It’s perfect for that on the go gameplay for when you want to sneak in a few minutes of playtime here and there. If you love word games and you want something with a bit more brain tickling than most, Word Forward is G-R-E-A-T!
