  • The game can feel repetitive after a while due to limited world variety and some weapons being underwhelming.

  • gameplay662 mentions

The gameplay of this roguelike is widely praised for its fun and satisfying mechanics, featuring a unique dodge-jump system and a variety of creative weapons that encourage experimentation and synergy. Players appreciate the engaging boss mechanics, vibrant art style, and the addictive gameplay loop, although some note that the experience can become repetitive over time. Overall, the game is recognized for its polished controls, diverse upgrade options, and a charming aesthetic that enhances the overall experience.

    • “The sheer amount of variety and synergies every single weapon and upgrade has is crazy, and to think each and every one of them is completely mechanically different is just insane to think about!”
    • “This game has so much character and soul while also having one of the most addictive gameplay loops.”
    • “The gameplay is super fun, it's like Enter the Gungeon but a bit better in my opinion.”
    • “It's aight but the gameplay loop rapidly becomes sameish, probably won't finish.”
    • “Levels aren't as tight and consist of small rooms instead of one big juicy uninterrupted level. Bosses take long to kill, guns feel too clumsy, not enjoyable to use. A ton of mandatory and not-too-intuitive and tedious mechanics like jumping on top of enemies make the characters feel samey, and I dislike these dashes/jumps/dodgerolls personally. Complex upgrades make you think too much and run back and forth between rooms and shops during the playthrough, and this kills the gameplay tightness. You grow too attached to your current run investing your time in these decisions, navigating with the minimap, dealing with other chores like restoring beacons, entering buildings with shops, watching some extra cutscenes, opening loot vortexes, destroying some trash on the floor to find out if there's something there, etc. and all this stuff eats away so much gameplay time and fun; there's almost none in the end.”
    • “...I do really like the music, artwork, humor, theme, etc., but the gameplay is mid at best, broken at worst, and just not worth investing your time into otherwise.”
  • graphics380 mentions

The graphics of the game have received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with many players praising its unique and vibrant art style, detailed animations, and charming character designs. The pixel art is described as both beautiful and engaging, contributing significantly to the game's overall appeal and replayability. While some players noted that the visuals can occasionally be overwhelming, the consensus is that the game's aesthetic is a standout feature that enhances the chaotic and fun gameplay experience.

    • “The graphics are sick, the combat is smooth, good humour, crazy build synergies, and I love me some roguelikes/roguelites.”
    • “Voidigo is an incredibly well animated and polished game with a very bold and unique identity-- the sounds and visuals are overflowing with life (sometimes to the point where it's sensory overload).”
    • “The visuals in this game are just incredible, the game wears its influences on its sleeve but the art adds that extra something that makes it feel really special.”
    • “The visuals are charming and I can respect the animation work, but the vivid colors and messy visual hierarchy make it difficult to read what's happening.”
    • “Visuals are cute but beyond noisy, and sadly, this got far worse over early access rather than better, to the point where it doesn't even feel like we ended up getting as good of a game as we had earlier on, as the balance shifted from play to upgrades.”
    • “I was very unsure about this purchase because even though I love roguelikes, I dislike the art style.”
  • music196 mentions

The music in the game has received widespread acclaim, with many reviewers praising its energetic and memorable soundtrack that complements the gameplay perfectly. Players appreciate the variety of tracks that enhance the game's chaotic atmosphere, although some note that the rapid transitions between songs can make it difficult to fully appreciate individual pieces. • “The music, art, animations, and atmosphere are just fantastic!”
    • “The soundtrack is really well done and fits the feel of the game perfectly and the whole thing is just dripping with charm and personality.”
    • “The music is diverse and frankly, a bop.”
    • “There are several events you experience on a given floor and they have unique music tracks, so you end up going through songs too quickly and have them be cut off too soon to really latch onto any of them.”
    • “My issue with the music still stands in the finished game, but other than that 9/10 it's one of my favorite roguelikes I've ever played.”
    • “Music could stand to be a little more standardized.”

    • “A game which oozes with that old wacky humor I used to love.”
  • story76 mentions

The game's story is generally considered minimal but intriguing, with some players appreciating its originality and immersive world despite the lack of depth. While some reviews highlight the creative storytelling through item descriptions and environmental design, others feel that the narrative could be more coherent and engaging. • “If you love neon colors, goofy weapons, and a story that's told by simply wandering in the world, this is something for you.”
    • “The story could use some work; the small bits of lore you get are mostly through item descriptions.”
    • “There is no story.”
    • “Content and story aren't that deep as of currently, but I'm sure that'll become less of an issue with time.”
  • replayability72 mentions

The game is praised for its high replayability, with many players highlighting the variety of builds, weapons, and challenges that keep the experience fresh and engaging. While some reviewers note a lack of depth in replayability compared to other titles in the genre, the overall consensus is that the game's charm, humor, and addictive gameplay contribute to a compelling replay value. Despite some criticisms, many players find it to be a highly enjoyable and rewarding roguelite experience.

    • “A truly enjoyable game, with heaps of replayability.”
    • “This is one of the best roguelites I've ever played and I'd consider myself to be a connoisseur of the genre; it has a near infinite amount of replayability and despite still being in development, it has left me dumbfounded that it is not higher rated.”
    • “With its mesmerizing visuals, addictive gameplay, and high replayability, it has earned a special place in my gaming library.”
    • “There isn't enough replayability or progression to really warrant dying over and over again to see all the combinations, to be honest.”
    • “Overall, it's a very polished arcade roguelike, but for veterans of the genre, the complexity and replayability are lacking.”
    • “This game has a nice charm to it but lacks replayability.”

    • “You'll need a second life for grinding.”
    • “I don't mind grinding in a fun game, but not having a clue as to the purpose is not my thing, particularly in unforgiving games.”
    • “Remember: you are farming crystals and sometimes even exchanging permanent life just to get a random upgrade and then you get unusable garbage again... it does *not* feel good.”
    • “Exploration is a little tedious, and this gets genuinely annoying if you have any backtracking to do, which you often do since health, ammo, and weapon drops need to be revisited.”
