“The gameplay was a good improvement over the first version, and this time, in addition to defense, you can attack the enemy at a suitable time and defeat the enemy.”
“The gameplay is basically the same as it was in Tormented Fathers, i.e., running, hiding, and avoiding the stalkers, but you also get a chance to fight back, especially in later stages when you get a weapon to use against two of the stalkers, which I really liked.”
“About the gameplay, it was really a step back by removing the investigation button from the first game and turning it into a 'cover' button that is barely useful throughout the game.”
“The gameplay is not fun at all and the stealth is terrible.”
“Unfortunately in its actual form, even the most basic gameplay mechanics from Remothered: Broken Porcelain are broken, and as such, no one should waste time with it.”

While some improvements have been noted since launch, the consensus remains that the game is still plagued by instability, making it difficult to recommend in its current state.

“Even with the 'fixes' the game still has multiple soft lock portions and glitches that just make you want to pull your hair out.”
“I don't usually write reviews but after playing this game I feel I need to warn potential buyers, this game is not an improvement from the last; it's clunky, it's buggy, story-wise it's promising but impossible to play.”

“The graphics and design of the models and environments are very good and they have good details, the lighting and visual effects are also well done.”
“Good thing they improved the PC port, the game is running flawlessly on epic settings @1080p, graphics are stunning and look really impressive.”
“Optimization is not so great, with graphics like this I can't even run this game at 60fps smoothly, still dropping to 40 fps even on low settings.”
“Hiccuping frame rates, missing animations, object clipping, downgraded visuals... yeah, it'll run, but half of its parts will fall off all along the marathon trail.”
“Characters aren't acting the way they're supposed to, some graphical glitches, slight camera problems during cutscenes, and a whole bunch of other buggy issues.”

The atmosphere of the game is widely praised for its immersive and haunting qualities, effectively blending sound design and visual elements to create a spooky experience reminiscent of classic survival horror. While some players note a shift towards a less terrifying and more mystical ambiance compared to its predecessor, the overall mood remains engaging and atmospheric, with a soundtrack that enhances the tension. However, technical issues and inconsistent sound effects detract from the experience for some, highlighting a need for refinement in future updates.
“The atmosphere of the game and the whistling main theme music are delightful.”
“The atmosphere and hauntingly depressing yet charming music fits the theme of the game well and the survival horror elements are straight out of the early 2000s golden age of horror, though more refined.”
“The atmosphere is terrifying, gameplay is easy to learn and hard to master, characters stalk you very hard, graphics are very good for an indie game.”
“The atmosphere is totally different in this game; Tormented Fathers was a lot scarier than this one, probably because of the music and color palette.”
“They create almost the entire atmosphere, and it's really bad when ambient noise shows a clear sign of unpolished looping, sound effects completely missing at certain points of gameplay and cutscenes, and almost all sound missing entirely at certain points as well.”
“I hope that the developers will return the atmosphere of Remothered: Tormented Fathers in the game and correct the above shortcomings.”

“The soundtrack feels good and commonly goes well and elevates the scenes that it appears in.”
“Music was repetitive at times (looking at you, high-pitched whistle in the main menu) but it was good.”
“Cut scenes will jarringly start or stop with no rhyme or reason, every leaden scene devoid of careful touches like appropriate music, fade-outs or fade-ins, their mouths moving when talking or even good voice-acting.”
“I just started playing and I like the game but it is so quiet, there is a lack of musical environment.”

The humor in the game is described as both unintentional and intentional, with players finding amusement in the poor voice acting, unrealistic dialogue, and bizarre character interactions. While the game struggles to deliver genuine scares, it often succeeds in eliciting laughter through its melodrama and comedic glitches, making for a hilariously frustrating experience. Overall, the humor is a mixed bag, providing entertainment in the form of absurdity rather than effective storytelling.
“Jennifer's voice acting was hilarious; I couldn't take her seriously, same with Andrea, Elisa, Gloria, and Lindsay.”
“The dialogue is very realistic; at the beginning of the game, Lindsay and Jennifer have an argument, and it's actually realistic and even a bit funny.”
“At one point, a scientist said a line that was probably written by a 12-year-old, completely out of character, and I burst out laughing while the character I was looking at was tied up on a chair crying.”

While improvements like a skill tree and easier crafting have been noted, many feel that the gameplay can become monotonous, especially during boss battles that require repetitive hiding and striking. Overall, the horror elements from the first game are perceived as diminished, contributing to a less engaging experience.
“The gameplay can be tedious, but they improved it quite a bit in Broken Porcelain with making the character's movements less clunky, adding a skill tree, some easy crafting, more stuff to do and explore, autosave, healing, special powers, better voice acting, etc.”
“However, it felt like the horror aspect of the game that the first one had was left out; this one did not feel scary at all and gameplay was rather tedious. The mechanics are just too simple and unnecessary, it felt like they are there so you are not just walking around doing nothing.”
“The 'boss battles' are tedious and annoying, stuck hiding until the stalkers weren't looking and striking repetitively.”

Remothered: Broken Porcelain Review (PS4)
Remothered: Broken Porcelain should have not been released in its current state, since any resemblance with a finished game is pure coincidence. You can barely finish it, and only if you have iron patience to try until you get lucky with some of the bugs that can be game-breaking. It is a shame because the atmosphere of the game is so on spot, feeling creepy and scary, constantly wondering what horror awaits you after the corner. Even though it would still be very short, if the technical aspects would have been fixed, the artistic part and atmosphere would have compensated for the length by offering an intense and memorable experience. Unfortunately in its actual form, even the most basic gameplay mechanics from Remothered: Broken Porcelain are broken, and as such, no one should waste time with it.

Remothered: Broken Porcelain is a textbook example of a bad horror sequel that mostly sticks to its predecessor’s formula, without really understanding what made it work. Between a jumbled story, shortage of tension, annoying new mechanics, and a flagrant lack of polish, Broken Porcelain in a follow up only a mother could love.
