    • “Redline Crooks takes all the genre affections we know and love about roguelites and processes them through an entirely new gameplay style: combat racing.”
    • “The gameplay is responsive and deeply satisfying.”
    • “Maybe this makes me an idiot, but when I looked at the gameplay footage, the idea there was any racing mechanics never occurred to me.”
    • “It didn't really matter whether I died early or not, because there's too little variation in the gameplay.”
    • “That being said though it does work well considering the gameplay, which is really just all about driving as fast as possible while causing as many crashes as possible.”
  • music
    18 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game has received widespread acclaim for its catchy and energetic soundtrack, with many players describing it as "fantastic," "groovy," and filled with "bangers." However, some users noted a lack of variety in the tracks, especially given the game's roguelike nature, which leads to repeated exposure to the same songs. Overall, the soundtrack significantly enhances the game's stylish presentation and addictive gameplay, leaving players eager for an official release of the OST.

    • “The final note I'd like to mention is my love for the soundtrack; there are quite a few certified bops in here.”
    • “This game has fantastic music (and sound design).”

    • “The soundtrack also goes hard and I will purchase that immediately next Bandcamp Friday if it drops on Bandcamp.”
  • graphics
    7 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics are characterized by a rough art style reminiscent of "Nuclear Throne," which some players find appealing despite the blandness of the level backgrounds. Overall, the visuals are described as satisfying and enjoyable, complementing the fast-paced gameplay and enhancing the overall experience with a pleasant aesthetic and engaging audio design.

    • “If the nuclear throne-inspired visuals haven't already tipped you off, let me assure you that the gameplay is as fast-paced and chaotic (in a good way!) as it looks.”
    • “Great art style and soundtrack too!”
    • “Played the demo a lot, extremely replayable and fun gameplay loop, a lot of variety with the items and unique character skills, very satisfying visuals and audio design that just injects dopamine straight into your brain.”
    • “With the art style displayed in the character images, I suppose that's not much of a loss, as I find them pretty rough looking.”
    • “In terms of visuals, the levels are also quite bland, essentially just featuring different colors as backgrounds.”
  • story
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's story is notably minimal, with players expressing surprise at the lack of narrative despite the presence of two opposing forces. While this absence of a detailed storyline may lead to fewer visual elements during gameplay, it allows for a more straightforward experience without the distraction of extensive cutscenes or unnecessary DLC.

    • “I'm somewhat surprised by the lack of story, as there's clearly two forces fighting against each other.”
    • “Due in part to having no story, there aren't many screens to look at while playing.”
    • “It's not a waste of time; you're not here to pay for meaningless DLC or watch two hours of cutscenes and background story on why you're here and what your goal is.”
  • replayability
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Overall, the game's replayability is mixed; while some players appreciate the variety in items and character skills that enhance the fun gameplay loop, others feel that it lacks sufficient depth to sustain long-term interest. Positive aspects include satisfying visuals and audio, which contribute to an enjoyable experience, but concerns about overall replay value persist.

    • “Played the demo a lot, extremely replayable and fun gameplay loop, a lot of variety with the items and unique character skills, very satisfying visuals and audio design that just injects dopamine straight into your brain.”
    • “The character differences are good, the music is great, the art style is very pleasant especially getting to see your character steer in the top left corner, and the replayability is pretty good.”
    • “I know roguelites thrive on variety, so this is a pretty big criticism - and, indeed, I do think it hurts the game's overall replayability.”
    • “If you're concerned with monetary or replay value, don't be.”
