New World
New World is a pretty damn good MMORPG. It's fun and accessible, and though it doesn't do anything truly new, it has enough little twists on existing ideas to keep me invested.

story
20,293 mentions Positive Neutral NegativeThe game's story has seen significant improvements over time with revamped main quests, added voice acting, and enhanced lore, making the narrative more engaging and accessible. However, many players find the quest design repetitive and uninspired, often involving generic fetch and kill tasks that can feel like a grind, detracting from immersion. Technical issues, including persistent bugs in main story quests that block progression, also hinder the overall experience despite the compelling setting and satisfying combat.
“The quest system has had an overhaul eliminating a large majority of the fetch quests and the main story quest being fully voice acted with an interesting reason for each quest making you feel important in the lore of Aeternum.”
“The brimstone sands update and the rise of the angry earth expansion introduced a more narrative-driven main storyline with cinematic cutscenes, voiced characters, and engaging lore that pulls you into the mystical island of Aeternum.”
“Performance seems better, quests all reworked, fully voice acted and great cutscenes for main missions.”
“The main story quest is broken and won't let you progress which you need to do in order to do most of the in-game content.”
“Main story quest line has been bugged for more than a month and have not been able to progress.”
“The quests are repetitive trash, and the main story outlevels you by 10 levels at a time so you're forced to do the garbage town and faction quests which consist of 'kill x zombies' and 'collect x boxes' thousands and thousands of times.”
Critic Reviews
New World review
New World's engaging crafting and faction rivalries are held back by abysmal PvE and a boring world.
60%New World review — A wonderful new adventure under construction
New World feels like a modern MMORPG. It looks beautiful, the combat is fluid, and there's plenty to keep you engaged. The island feels alive with warring factions and hostile enemies. And the fighting is very fun. While you're never short of tasks to complete, the game gets repetitive. It's in desperate need of variety and more emotion. The bones are there, but New World hasn't fulfilled its potential yet.
