The gameplay in this entry evolves the classic Lovely Planet formula with varied modes, new weapons, and unique mechanics that offer both challenge and creativity, appealing especially to fans of twitch-based, precise shooting. While the base gameplay is solid and polished—featuring well-balanced speed, difficulty, and time trials—some modes, particularly the arcade and collectable-focused ones, are poorly designed and detract from the overall experience. Despite occasional frustration and a lack of clear tutorials for novel mechanics, the game is praised for its addictive, fast-paced gameplay and abundant variety.

    • “Gameplay: we're back to basics and each level set follows a new set of rules, be it a type of gun firing, physics of the gun, whether the player can jump. The variety in the modes is definitely there, but the lack of a solid tutorial explaining these oddities lets the game down immensely. The time trial and 100% accuracy requirements work well for this game.”
    • “There was a tangible evolution of the base gameplay in each world of the original—apples to test your accuracy, homing bullets to test your crowd control, swamp fog to test your speed and reaction time, and the sheer puzzle madness of mountains that made it feel like an entirely different game.”
    • “Movement and gameplay have across the series been perfected and you'll just feel cooler and cooler the more you play.”
    • “Gameplay we're back to basics and each level set follows a new set of rules, be it a type of gun firing, physics of the gun, whether the player can jump. The variety in the modes is definitely there, but the lack of a solid tutorial explaining these oddities lets the game down immensely. For example, I didn't realize there was a dash jump in fortress levels for a decent amount of time, and 'blink' was very confusing to understand at first, causing random deaths. The time trial and 100% accuracy requirements work well, although the arcade modes feel very sloppy and thrown in without much effort since they're not really required apart from collectables. This is where the game completely dies—they are absolutely abysmal and some of the worst collectables I have ever seen in a game. They are untracked, hidden, sometimes forced to be collected in arcade mode, and just generally awful in every way. It didn't add anything so it should have been excluded; it's a shame because the base game is great but everything else really lets it down and ultimately soured my entire experience.”
    • “I want to like this one but this mode is where all the game's worst level design traits come into play - more on that later - and for whatever reason, this mode also tends to have exceptionally tight time trials mixed with its uber-fast gameplay that make it unquestionably the hardest mode in the game.”
    • “If most enemies didn't take three shots and the gameplay wasn't so aggressively twitchy I might've liked this one, but this is LP2 abyss-levels frustrating to me. I nearly quit during the second set of levels.”
  • music
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game receives mixed feedback, with some users finding it less memorable and too varied compared to earlier installments, while others praise it as phenomenal, catchy, and perhaps the best in the series. Overall, the soundtrack is considered a standout feature that enhances the game's aesthetic and appeal.

    • “The gameplay, music, and aesthetics are all at the same level of quality as the original game.”
    • “Music - phenomenal and catchy as ever.”
    • “Overall, this game's aesthetic is something else, something that you will remember, with a soundtrack going so hard you'll listen to it everywhere.”
    • “Music-wise, it is alright, but I feel it got too branched out and, because of it, none of the tracks stood out at all. I miss the days of the lovely forest tracks in 1 and 2 being very outstanding. Instead, I found myself shutting it off and listening to something else.”
  • graphics
    7 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics showcase significant improvements with smoother effects and a cleaner, charming style that enhances the game's unique aesthetic. The visuals are considered the best and most polished in the series, featuring a distinctive, cute design with a toggleable PS1-style filter to cater to different preferences. Overall, the game's graphics contribute to a memorable and visually appealing experience.

    • “Graphics-wise, everything is a major improvement. The effects feel smoother and everything has a better, cleaner style to it. Pretty neat improvements on the simplistic style it had maintained for a good while.”
    • “The best visuals in the series, the most varied gameplay of the series, the most polished of the series. God, I love everything about this game.”
    • “Graphics/style - cute, unique, and beautiful.”
  • grinding
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Grinding in the game is seen as a tedious and unenjoyable process, especially in the early levels and when aiming for 100% completion due to the grindy nature of uncovering secrets.

    • “You learn levels by grinding through the early parts to get a chance to peek at the second half, which, again, doesn't feel good at all.”
    • “Also, if you care about 100%, the secrets are a bit grindy.”
  • humor
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Users find the humor in the game to be light and entertaining, enhanced by its fast-paced gameplay and quick level completion, which prevents it from becoming tiresome.

    • “This is a funny gimmick and super fast-paced in a way that doesn't grate because the levels tend to be over so fast.”
  • replayability
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game offers near-unlimited replayability for competitive players driven to improve their personal best times. This focus on time improvement keeps the experience engaging and continuously challenging.

    • “Trying to improve your own times enables almost unlimited replayability for competitive players.”
