  • The game is free and offers a short, easy-to-complete visual novel experience.
  • Artwork and character designs are generally well done, expressive, and visually appealing.
  • The background music and sound effects fit well, helping establish a spooky yet lighthearted atmosphere.
  • There is no player choice or interactivity; it is a kinetic novel consisting of clicking through a static story.
  • The horror stories are mostly not scary, and the overall plot is weak or disjointed.
  • The English translation contains errors and awkward dialogue, which along with shallow characters, can make the story confusing or unengaging.
  • story
    230 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story is a short, kinetic visual novel centered on a group of friends telling a series of mostly unconnected, mild "scary" tales with a few twists, inspired partly by Russian literature. While the art and atmosphere receive praise, the narrative is often described as underwhelming, lacking depth, scares, and interactive elements, with some players finding it disjointed or confusing due to translation issues. Overall, it offers a simple, nostalgic experience more suited for quick reading rather than immersive storytelling.

    • “The stories told are different and really give it a nice get-together vibe like how an actual scary storytelling group would be.”
    • “I really enjoyed the twist at the end and the storytelling in general, but I'm a sucker for narrative and horror literature, so I'm biased.”
    • “This kinetic novel comprises a number of very short "scary stories" weaved together into a larger story.”
    • “The overall plot is odd and anticlimactic, and the short "scary" stories are anything but.”
    • “The story is lackluster, characters forgettable and there is really not a whole lot going on in here.”
    • “The way the game progressed was rather good and there was enough build-up that I was excited to see the "main event" of the game, which was mentioned by the characters in the beginning... but then the story just completely flops, like the developer ran out of time to do a proper ending and just slapped something in to call it finished.”
  • music
    53 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's music is widely praised for effectively setting tone and atmosphere, with a soundtrack that ranges from cute and catchy to eerie and suspenseful, enhancing the horror and emotional scenes. While some find certain sound effects annoying or generic, overall the music is considered a strong, fitting element that complements the art and storytelling. Notably, the soundtrack is impressive for a free, short visual novel and features occasional jump-scare tunes that contribute to the immersive experience.

    • “The game is accompanied by calm music, which changes in some moments of the game in order to scare the player.”
    • “The atmosphere sometimes looms with dark and eerie music in the background to build the mood; in my opinion, the background music was well chosen.”
    • “This game is well polished, with brilliant visuals and quirky music - fitting the theme of the scare-story horror genre.”
    • “The music is lackluster.”
    • “The music that plays during her "reading" wasn't half bad either, but immediately after she's done reading, that dumb pop-y loop comes back and her story is dismissed as boring.”
    • “The music is pretty ambient and adds a bit of atmosphere, but the odd sound effects sound kind of generic and take away from any immersion you might get.”
  • graphics
    53 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics are generally praised for their nice and detailed anime-style artwork, with clear character designs and expressive poses, though some find the art style less appealing or lacking animation. Visuals are mostly static with limited backgrounds, and while the quality is solid for a free game, many wished for more varied and dynamic imagery to better complement the storytelling. Overall, the artwork is considered a strong point, enhancing the experience despite the minimal visual variety.

    • “The artwork put into this mini visual novel is very detailed and beautiful.”
    • “The artwork was lovely, with the sprites conveying emotions using the full range of body language that also helped convey the personalities of each character.”
    • “This game is well polished, with brilliant visuals and quirky music - fitting the theme of the scare-story horror genre.”
    • “The visuals, however, follow the same quality as those in Everlasting Summer, a game made by a team which included the same developer.”
    • “The mini stories needed to be more fleshed out, such as adding visuals to the narration or even a change in the background, just something!”
    • “In addition, there was one peculiar moment involving chibi that felt very out of place for the realistic(ish) art style.”
  • humor
    14 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The humor in the game is generally appreciated for its lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek tone and funny characters, providing a playful contrast to the intended scary stories. While some find the humor natural and enjoyable, others feel it can be forced or detract from the atmosphere. Overall, the humor adds charm and a unique, entertaining twist to the narrative.

    • “A short, free and funny Russian visual novel about a group of friends who spend the night telling scary stories to each other.”
    • “While not inherently scary, the short visual novel has interesting and funny characters. 8.5/10”
    • “The art is vibrant, and the story is written well, with plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor.”
  • gameplay
    13 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is minimal and primarily involves clicking through a linear story, with no interactive choices or traditional gameplay elements. It suits players interested in reading urban legends or folktale horror but may feel repetitive or confusing due to transitions and highlights. Those expecting more engaging mechanics may find it lacking.

    • “Not much gameplay of course being a kinetic novel but a nice way to spend a meal or just a little time, especially if you like urban legends or folktale horror.”
    • “However, if you're not into reading, you might find yourself bored since this game is just a linear visual novel, so the only gameplay you'd be doing is clicking the next button.”
    • “Gameplay: quite confusing due to transition and highlight.”
    • “There are no choices whatsoever, and no gameplay to be found, just story.”
    • “No real gameplay or anything.”
    • “If you're not into reading, you might find yourself bored since this game is just a linear visual novel so the only gameplay you'd be doing is clicking the next button.”
  • atmosphere
    10 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The atmosphere is generally described as a mix of spooky and lighthearted tones, with some users wishing for a smoother transition to fully savor the eerie moments. The soundtrack and visuals are praised for fitting the mood and creating a creepy, ambient environment, though some generic sound effects slightly detract from immersion. Overall, the atmosphere is seen as moderately effective but somewhat inconsistent.

    • “Nice soundtrack that fits with the atmosphere and nice drawings.”
    • “If you love Everlasting Summer (from one of the authors) or/and love the atmosphere of scary storytelling, this is a nice short piece.”
    • “The atmosphere sometimes looms with dark and eerie music in the background to build the mood; in my opinion, the background music was well chosen.”
    • “Aside from being generally quite mediocre, my one complaint about this game is that it goes immediately from the 'spooky' atmosphere of each story to the lighthearted atmosphere of the characters talking about the stories - I'd like a moment to savour the end of the story first.”
    • “Nothing much happened, it's just a short story and can bring a bit of scary atmosphere.”
    • “The music is pretty ambient and adds a bit of atmosphere, but the odd sound effects sound kind of generic and take away from any immersion you might get, I find.”
  • character development
    6 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Character development in this game is heavily influenced by the visual novel "Everlasting Summer," with character designs and personalities closely resembling those from the earlier game. While the designs are praised as cute and appealing, the overall originality of the characters is questioned, suggesting a lack of unique development. Despite this, the characters contribute to an enjoyable and engaging reading experience.

    • “Cute character designs and catchy music round it out, and it's free!”
    • “Stories weren't scary but was a fun read, character designs were so cool too!!”
    • “The art (background and character designs) is good.”
    • “This game ripped off all of its character designs and personalities from Everlasting Summer, a way better free-to-play visual novel that was made 2 years prior to this 'original content'.”
    • “For whatever reason, the character designs appear to be an homage to (or maybe just a rip-off of) the characters in Everlasting Summer (2014), but aside from that, it appears that Lost Girl's Diary has no other connection to that game.”
    • “From the way it is told, the several easter eggs and most prominently the character designs, I'd say this is a story made by the same people who made Everlasting Summer (great game).”
  • grinding
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Users find the grinding aspect excessively time-consuming and frustrating, with some describing it as requiring multiple "lives" to complete due to difficult or annoying grinding achievements.

    • “You'll need a second life for grinding.”
    • “Stupid grinding achievement.”
  • optimization
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's Unity-based engine shows room for improvement in optimization, as even on the "fastest" settings performance could be better.

    • “The game engine (built on Unity) could probably use some optimization; I used the 'fastest' settings.”
    • “So the game engine (built on Unity) could probably use some optimization (I used 'fastest' settings).”
  • emotional
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The emotional impact of the game is generally forgettable, though it evokes a sense of nostalgia through its character art and references linked to the game Everlasting Summer.

  • stability
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game demonstrates strong stability, running smoothly without glitches and providing a well-made experience, though some language issues are noted.
