The story aspect of the game receives mixed reviews, with some players finding it engaging and full of mystery, while others criticize it for being disjointed and poorly executed. Many appreciate the multiple protagonist storytelling technique and the emotional depth, but note issues with direction and coherence, leading to frustration. Overall, while some players are drawn in by the narrative, others feel it lacks cohesion and suffers from design flaws.

    • “Honestly, what is keeping me playing is the story.”
    • “+excellent story that is full of mystery, intrigue, and even some high school drama moments, that are surprisingly entertaining for how cringy they could potentially be.”
    • “It ties in wonderfully with the other games in the series, it's got a lot of places to explore, it's not a short game, and the story is woven in well and is an emotional journey.”
    • “In line with pretending the garbage 'content' in this RPG Maker asset flip has any importance, it's not even a single cohesive story, but five different garbage fanfictions with five different map sets slapped together, which seems like a lot of work considering, as their past actions show, big black bear are quite happy to just dump an entire demo/asset pack onto Steam as-is and claim it as their work.”
    • “And the world is designed in a way that going the most logical route for the story is to go through the most obtuse trickery you ever experienced.”
    • “- not much direction of where to go to advance the plot of the story.”
  • gameplay12 mentions

Gameplay in this game is a mixed bag, featuring engaging boss battles and puzzles alongside frustrating design choices that can hinder progress. While the game offers a variety of mechanics and a lengthy playtime, much of it feels padded with maze-like levels, and the reliance on low-damage skills can make combat feel punishing. Overall, the experience is marred by low-quality visuals and inconsistent gameplay flow, making it a challenging endeavor for players.

    • “If I were to review the game based on gameplay, music, story, creativity, etc., this game would receive very high praises.”
    • “The boss battles are good, the puzzles are good, and I have no complaints about the elemental mechanics.”
    • “Each world has its own lore and mechanics, and very few enemies are shared between them, so it feels like playing five different games.”
    • “Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low-quality, copy-pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay.”
    • “If you have a handicap or just hate fast-paced, optimization-necessary gameplay, you aren't escaping it here!”
    • “It claims to have 50 to 90 hours of gameplay time, but I feel that is probably due to the mazes padding gameplay considerably.”
  • music3 mentions

The music in the game is highly praised for enhancing immersion and complementing the engaging story and gameplay, despite the retro 16-bit aesthetic. Reviewers note that the soundtracks significantly contribute to the overall experience, making it a standout feature of the game.

    • “The soundtracks in this game are outstanding, even when I got stuck fighting the dark one.”
    • “The fights are fun, the story is interesting, and the music and atmosphere create a great immersion despite the 16-bit old-school look of the game.”

    • “As for this game, sure there are pros and cons (a con being fairly grindy to 'save' perks/benefits to the said character(s)), but in the end, despite the grinding, super boss slaying, exploration for better equipment, as well as a touching ending and something after the credits, I'm giving this a thumbs up.”
