gameplay
369 mentions Positive Neutral NegativeThe gameplay of "Jupiter Hell" is characterized by its deep mechanics and tactical turn-based combat, emphasizing positioning and cover while allowing for a variety of character builds and playstyles. Players appreciate the blend of roguelike elements with a focus on ranged combat, which creates a unique and engaging experience, though some find the mechanics can feel repetitive over time. Overall, the game is praised for its addictive gameplay loop, solid graphics, and a satisfying progression system, making it a worthy successor to its predecessor, "DoomRL."
“All builds are ultimately viable, thanks to a surprisingly deep and varied set of mechanics; this becomes quite obvious once you get a good feel for the game, and even more so once you start playing its many unlockable game modes.”
“Fun, snappy gameplay that gets you right into the turn-based action.”
“The gameplay is both fast-paced and intense while still forcing you to stop, hold your breath while you analyze the situation and try to strategize as best as you can to survive a genuine challenge.”
“This thing is mechanically lacking and sadly very short.”
“The gameplay loop is relatively tight and limited and as a result personally I find the tactics a bit repetitive once locked into a particular style, but maybe a higher difficulty will at least add more spice.”
“The gameplay is too high risk no reward, the immersion is way too short-lived and the game overall lacks the small, easily forgotten touches that makes a great gaming experience.”
Jupiter Hell Review - Raze hell again and again
Jupiter Hell isn’t afraid to wear its inspirations on its sleeve, and it does a great job in recreating that ‘DOOM’ feeling in a vastly different genre. While the build and class diversity is solid at first glance, the lack of gameplay and level variety doesn’t provide that ‘one more run’ feeling. That being said, there is plenty for hardcore strategists to sink their teeth into should they want to master the game at the highest difficulty.

90%Jupiter Hell Review (PC)
Jupiter Hell delivers a good mix for gamers who are fans of at least one of its components and are willing to try something new. Many of them will get hooked on trying just one more time to clear Callisto of its monsters and move beyond. Just make sure to try out all the classes at least once to see what’s the best and always keep a finger close to R, making a habit of always having gully loaded weaponry. Sure, the story is nothing impressive. There are moments when the generated levels do not make too much sense. Progress sometimes hinges on the placement of one health chest or one group of enemies. But, despite the randomness, Jupiter Hell feels fair and there’s a lot of depth to discover in this surprising mix. Review code provided by the publisher.
