Generation Zero
Sadly, though, the core mechanics of stealth, shooting and looting didn’t click with me. Yet, I’d still like to see a sequel because there’s some great potential on show in Generation Zero.

- story11 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
The story in Generation Zero is criticized for being sparse and lacking depth, with quests that feel aimless and repetitive, leading to a sense of purposeless exploration. Players find the world to be large yet sterile, filled with technical issues and bugs that detract from the overall experience, resulting in a narrative that fails to engage or connect with the player. Overall, the potential for a compelling story is overshadowed by bland quests and a frustrating gameplay experience.
“Too little storytelling; the multiplayer integration is not great.”
“Generation Zero is a tragic story of mislaid potential and promise.”
“[empty world, no purpose or drive, sparse story]”
“Overall, Generation Zero's incredible atmosphere, mostly beautiful visuals, and great soundtrack feel wasted alongside countless technical issues, horrendous pacing, unbalanced combat, and an almost nonexistent story.”
Generation Zero
Rarely is the delta between my expectations and reality as vast as it is with Generation Zero, and yet never have I remained more hopeful for a game I've scored this low. There are numerous issues here that no one could rightly overlook, problems that damage the very core of what this game is meant to be. They don't take very long to see, and yet, neither are they irreparable design flaws. There are bright spots too, like its exploration, skill tree, and enemies which remain interesting. If Avalanche can improve the inventory system, fix quest tracking, and get it so the enemies can't cheat through walls and other physical spaces, they'll have repaired most of what ails these dysfunctional machines. Generation Zero isn't the game I wanted it to be today, but in a world where games are alive and changing all the time, I'm hoping the singularity is still near.

50%Generation Zero
While the apocalypse is traditionally painted in varying shades of drab brown and grey, here it's brought to life in lovely bucolic greens and yellows. This pastoral loveliness doesn't disguise the fact that Generation Zero is unremittingly, cripplingly dull, providing protracted periods of walking vast distances with all-too short bouts of gunplay. How the developer behind Just Cause managed to create this vacuous, pointless game is beyond me.
