The gameplay of this game is praised for its smooth, fluid twin-stick shooter mechanics combined with a unique and satisfying gravity gun-based grab-and-throw system that adds depth, variety, and emergent physics-driven chaos to combat. It offers fast-paced, engaging roguelike progression with tight controls, enjoyable upgrades, and replayability, though some note the upgrade variety and late-game content could be expanded for longer-term freshness. Overall, the gameplay stands out for its innovative mechanics and polished feel, making it highly addictive and fun despite some balancing and content gaps.

    • “Highly underrated, run-based twin-stick roguelike nailing pretty much all core gameplay pillars, that doesn't use the advertised physics factor in combat encounters as a forced gimmick, but as a smart enhancement of the formula that, even when intentionally ignored, still makes the combat and exploration more responsive and chaotic in an engaging way, which in the end improves the entire experience and gives the game more identity and definition.”
    • “The controls just feel really tight and good, and the unique mechanic of being able to grab and throw anything (that your power level allows) is novel, successful, and just crazy fun to play with.”
    • “Great roguelike that has plenty of mechanics that are easy to learn but hard to master with amazing replayability and many different builds and challenges that test your skill, highly recommend.”
    • “My biggest critique of the game is that it tends to fall into the clichés of the genre a bit too hard – most of the mechanics and items have effects that you've already seen in the other big names of the genre.”
    • “Between achievements depending on mechanics that are promised in future updates, in-game upgrades you can buy related to those mechanics that just don't do anything, and the lack of balance in weapon selection (some weapons just don't feel like they'd ever be any good except in specific builds and you can't control what builds you get, you can't switch weapons mid-run either), the game seems like it really needed another few months in the oven before it was ready to come out of early access.”
    • “They removed a large part of their main gimmick from the game, significantly lowered player agency, made their upgrade/level up system less interesting and more basic, and somehow messed up their gameplay's main appeal.”
  • music

    48 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
75% positive mentions, 19% neutral mentions, 6% negative mentions

The music is widely praised for its quality, variety, and its seamless integration into gameplay, enhancing immersion and engagement throughout different environments and boss fights. Many reviewers describe the soundtrack as energetic, compelling, and memorable, with some calling it a major highlight of the game. While most find the music excellent and fitting the game's aesthetic, a minority found it less appealing or mismatched with certain UI elements.

    • “There are games that just have good music, and then there are games where the music weaves into the gameplay and becomes a natural part of its dynamic, and this game feels like the latter.”
    • “The music is top notch for each biome as well as boss fights which keeps you engaged during your runs.”
    • “As a point of criticism, I did think the HUD didn't quite match the energy of the rest of the game, and I found the soundtrack to be quite boring; other than that, I really like this game.”
    • “They also did not have to go that hard with the soundtrack.”
    • “The audio design complements this presentation with punchy sound effects and energetic music that reinforce the pace and tension of combat, though it rarely draws attention to itself outside of gameplay.”
  • graphics

    43 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
74% positive mentions, 19% neutral mentions, 7% negative mentions

The game's graphics are widely praised for their slick, vibrant, and glitch-inspired aesthetic, featuring clean neon-infused visuals that enhance readability and immersion during intense gameplay. Reviewers highlight the stunning effects, smooth animations, and well-polished design that create a captivating and visually spectacular experience. Overall, the graphics significantly contribute to the game's appeal, making the combat and environments feel dynamic and engaging.

    • “The graphics are really cool, the combination of glitch effects, vibrant backgrounds, clear designs, and starship trails all somehow fit together and make the game look spectacular.”
    • “From the moment I launched the game, I was captivated by its stunning visuals and immersive gameplay.”
    • “I played the prologue a lot, which already felt like a finished game, but after the first minutes of playing I'm astonished that the already well polished graphics still got better; it feels much more 'glitchy' now and I've never seen such nice effects, explosions, warps, border all on point.”
    • “Couldn't get past the graphics and UI; they do not flow well together in my opinion.”
    • “The art style.”
    • “Clean visuals.”
  • story

    35 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
23% positive mentions, 68% neutral mentions, 9% negative mentions

The story in this game is generally minimalistic and serves primarily as a thematic backdrop rather than a deeply engaging narrative. While some players find it amusing, cohesive, and occasionally interesting with twists, many describe it as slim, underdeveloped, or not the main draw compared to gameplay and mechanics. Overall, the storytelling supports the action without overshadowing the roguelite twin-stick shooter experience.

    • “The story is well-written and full of twists and turns, keeping me hooked from beginning to end.”
    • “The storyline is both engaging and thought-provoking.”
    • “The story is interesting and I want to find out more about the world.”
    • “And to be fair, the story is amusing and cohesive but very, very slim and more of a gesture than a building block with real weight behind it.”
    • “None of the plot threads introduced at the beginning of the game are resolved; no new subplots are introduced, and all of the characters are either evil or only mildly likeable in various ways.”
    • “The story is boring and I didn't like any of the characters.”
  • replayability

    15 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
60% positive mentions, 20% neutral mentions, 20% negative mentions

Replayability in the game is generally praised for its varied player classes, diverse weapons, enemy types, and roguelite progression systems, providing fast-paced and engaging repeated playthroughs. However, some players note limited upgrade variety and reliance on a specific throw mechanic, suggesting the need for more meaningful weapon upgrade options to sustain long-term interest. Overall, the game offers high replay value through its content and mechanics despite minor bugs and room for improvement.

    • “While on paper the quantity of distinctive levels (and their number in a run even on the highest difficulty setting) is relatively limited, Galactic Glitch is packed to the brim with content and replayability value in other aspects, like a decent selection of player ships (classes), a big and varied arsenal of satisfying weapons, and a lot of enemy types or unlockable skills that appear in the run (alongside skills in a permanent profile skill tree) that contribute to an acceptable variety between the runs.”
    • “It's a ton of fast fun and it's endlessly replayable.”
    • “The roguelite mechanics offer a ton of replayability, and the story is pretty decent.”
    • “While on paper the quantity of distinctive levels (and their number in a run even on the highest difficulty setting) is relatively limited, Galactic Glitch is packed to the brim with content and replayability value in other aspects, like a decent selection of player ships (classes), a big and varied arsenal of satisfying weapons, and a lot of enemy types or unlockable skills that appear in the run (alongside skills in a permanent profile skill tree) that contribute to an at least acceptable variety between the runs.”
    • “I do like this game, been following it for years but there needs to be a fairly huge update if I'm honest... basically in every run you get 3 basic upgrade options: attack, armor, throw damage, which further upgrade like your main weapon's attack changing, armor giving you more dashes and throw letting you carry larger objects. There's not a ton of variety, I was basically just getting the drone passive. I think there should be dual main weapons or forget the basic upgrades and use weapon choice upgrades like in Hades... like have the beam get a choice to get 2 beams and further upgrade to like 5 beams, or take the Gradius 3 route which came out in 1989 which has better weapon upgrade variety. It seems this game's main gimmick is the throw mechanic but that's way too linear and won't make this game replayable in the long term. The passives are okay but come on, enemies that shoot each other take more damage is kind of laughable. I'd honestly ditch the throw mechanic and focus on main weapons having a variety of different choices to choose from. Here's a few ideas: homing beam, multi beam, short range high-power beam. This game is fun but throw is OP and makes most main weapons obsolete.”
    • “The quantity of distinctive levels and their number in a run even on the highest difficulty setting is relatively limited.”
  • optimization

    7 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
43% positive mentions, 14% neutral mentions, 43% negative mentions

The game is generally well-optimized, offering stable performance and satisfying effects during intense action on most platforms. However, performance on the Steam Deck can be inconsistent, with noticeable FPS drops and UI issues affecting the experience. Streaming to larger screens provides a smoother experience, highlighting the game's good optimization and physics.

    • “GG is extremely addicting, fresh, and optimized.”
    • “Explosions and impacts feel satisfying without overwhelming the screen, and performance generally remains stable even during moments of extreme on-screen activity.”
    • “I've been playing using Moonlight/Apollo to stream to my living room TV with a controller, and the game is optimized for the big screen.”
    • “Performance can sometimes be a little unstable on the Steam Deck, with FPS drops from 60 to low 30s in certain biomes.”
    • “From my experience playing this on a Steam Deck, the performance is generally fine but can tank sometimes when a lot of particles and effects are rendered.”
    • “I think people will like this, but the poor performance on the Steam Deck along with poor UI design for Steam Deck means that I am going to have to refund this.”
  • grinding

    6 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
17% positive mentions, 0% neutral mentions, 83% negative mentions

Grinding in the game is generally balanced, with progression feeling meaningful without excessive repetition for basic unlocks. However, certain systems like achievement hunting, prototype upgrades, and blueprints require more tedious grinding, which can feel repetitive and frustrating. Overall, while runs remain quick and engaging, some unlocks lead to repetitive tasks that detract from the experience.

    • “The progression system hits that sweet spot where unlocks feel meaningful but you're not grinding for hours to get basic stuff.”
    • “But achievement hunting and prototype upgrades require grinding.”
    • “The blueprints system is meh; I just want to use or buy other ships faster, rather than grinding the same stuff with the same build all over again.”
    • “It's used even worse here, as you keep bumping into obstructions until you get the unlock, but having the unlock really just means tediously going into all these locked 'reward' rooms and animations every run from then on.”
  • emotional

    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
100% positive mentions, 0% neutral mentions, 0% negative mentions

The game focuses more on mechanical and gameplay expression than on emotional or narrative depth, offering limited emotional engagement for players seeking a strong story. Its appeal lies primarily in dynamic and creative combat mechanics rather than emotional storytelling.

    • “Galactic Glitch is far more interested in mechanical expression than emotional or narrative depth, and players seeking a strong story hook may find this aspect underdeveloped.”
  • stability

    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
0% positive mentions, 0% neutral mentions, 100% negative mentions

The game shows stability issues with several bugs and glitches, such as inconsistent weapon damage and random area problems relative to screen size. While unpolished and occasionally buggy, it remains enjoyable and replayable despite these technical shortcomings.

    • “Game is unpolished and buggy, several weapons hit for 3x the damage they're supposed to and instantly clear out every room.”
    • “7 could be better with more progression currency, HP, and glitches that have more random area versus screen size.”
    • “Has a few bugs in it (glitches? lol) but overall a fun and replayable game.”
  • humor

    • “A funny, flashy, fast-paced roguelike.”
    • “Fun and a bit funny, without trying too hard - and thank god for that.”
    • “This is an essential core mechanic (it can even absorb small enemies and rocket barrages! I launched one monster into another—hilarious!).”
  • atmosphere
