The gameplay of the game is generally praised for its fun, engaging mechanics and cooperative elements, offering a mix of challenging combat and intricate puzzles that encourage teamwork. However, some players find certain mechanics, like the colored shield system, frustrating and feel it detracts from the overall experience, leading to moments of artificial difficulty. Despite these criticisms, the diverse character abilities and RPG elements contribute to a replayable and enjoyable gameplay loop that many players appreciate.
“The gameplay is engaging and fun.”
“The gameplay is very fluid, each character plays differently, and there's plenty of upgrades to purchase.”
“The gameplay, progression, and level design alone would be enough for this to be an amazing game, but there's much more with the puzzles.”
“The cooperative mechanic design is boring and lazy.”
“If you are looking for a co-op game to play with friends, I recommend you look somewhere else. The gameplay was not that fun, and the endgame focus on solving the clues and puzzles just killed my enjoyment with it.”
“The colored shields (enemies that can only be attacked by a certain player) do admittedly slow gameplay down at times, but they also create some wonderfully tense moments.”

The story of the game is a mixed bag, with some players finding it engaging and humorous, while others describe it as lackluster and filled with generic character tropes. Many appreciate the lighthearted dialogue and charming characters, though some feel the narrative can interrupt gameplay flow. Overall, the story is seen as a fun addition that complements the gameplay, but it may not be the main draw for everyone.
“The story is engaging, the characters charming, the fighting fun, and the puzzles easily my favorite part.”
“The writing and narrative is rather delightful--not in a groundbreaking way, but they decided to very lightly weave a cute story throughout, and actually give each of the four characters a bit of a personality, and I think it was a really strong decision.”
“The story is surprisingly good, and the jokes are constant and genuinely funny.”
“The story is lackluster and attempts to be funny, but the jokes are flat. The personalities of every character are generic lame tropes. In an action co-op game, I wasn't expecting any story (would have preferred a very short paragraph between chapters really), but if you are going to put one, make sure it's entertaining.”
“The story and plot started off strong but lacked a strong finish in my opinion.”
“While the characters are cute and amusing, the storyline and lore are not very interesting, and the level of time and effort required to fully complete it is shockingly high.”

The humor in the game is a mixed bag, with many players appreciating its witty dialogue, charming characters, and clever writing that often elicits genuine laughter. However, some find the humor hit-or-miss, with certain jokes feeling forced or juvenile, which may not resonate with all audiences. Overall, the game's comedic elements contribute positively to the experience, especially in a multiplayer setting, but individual preferences will greatly influence enjoyment.
“The charm and humor of heroes, NPCs, and even the villains is one of the biggest reasons to play this game.”
“The writing and humor are absolutely top notch and had us all laughing out loud numerous times throughout the run.”
“It's fun, offers variety in regards to level design, abilities, and things you fight against, and it's funny.”
“It's not funny or clever, it's nauseating.”
“The jokes fall flat and feel forced.”
“I expected humor, but it was just cringeworthy.”

The music in the game has received widespread acclaim, with many reviewers praising its energetic and fitting soundtracks that enhance the gameplay experience. Tracks are noted for their ability to match the game's intensity, with standout pieces that players find memorable and enjoyable. While some mention occasional repetitiveness, the overall consensus is that the music significantly contributes to the game's charm and fun factor.
“The music is fantastic throughout, the world is surprisingly well fleshed out, the characters are memorable and fun, the art is beautiful and the story engaging with deep lore.”
“The music was damn fitting and, dare I say, just another part of what I can only describe as this indie masterpiece.”
“The music is amazing, although sometimes it does fade in the background during all the chaos of combat; when you hear it, it is amazing. When I first started up the game, I spent a solid 40 minutes just listening to the menu music and I'm highly thinking of buying the OST.”
“The music becomes repetitive after some point.”
“Either way, this game would be tolerable at a fraction of the playtime with less of the goofy stat grind nonsense but as it stands you have a groovy soundtrack and nothing but a realization your time is better spent elsewhere.”
“Story's nothing to write home about, music's alright, but the gameplay is da bomb!”

The graphics of the game receive mixed reviews, with many praising the charming pixel art style and attention to detail, while others note inconsistencies and issues with resolution that can detract from the experience. Players appreciate the variety in environments and character designs, but some find the chaotic visuals during intense battles overwhelming. Overall, the aesthetic is generally well-received, though it may not appeal to everyone due to its retro-inspired look and occasional graphical clutter.
“The graphics are awesome (and complicated to code!) and the dialogue is fun.”
“The visuals are awesome too, especially the amount of variety in the environments.”
“The artwork is great, incredible pixel work with some really snappy and impactful animations.”
“The art and graphics are nothing special, but they still hold up when compared to others of its genre, while also relaying a lot of information about the characters.”
“Many things seem to not be of the same art style in-game, with wooden crates being an easy example.”
“It seems to have some issues with resolution - I've played with the graphics settings and it's always a bit fuzzy.”

Players generally find the grinding aspect of the game to be tedious and time-consuming, often leading to frustration as they must invest significant hours to progress or unlock upgrades. While some enjoy the gameplay and level design, many feel that the grind detracts from the overall experience, making it feel repetitive and less engaging, especially when upgrades provide minimal benefits. The need to grind for gold and character upgrades can also hinder story progression and enjoyment, leaving players feeling stuck in a cycle of repetitive tasks.
“Bought this game expecting only a few hours of fun with friends, ended up playing/grinding for more than 20 hours.”
“The gameplay overall is enjoyable, but can quickly become boring, tedious, and then downright infuriating as the game progresses.”
“Unlikely (read as impossible) to beat many even the fourth main combat stage in single player without a great deal of grinding for gold, and the RPG-style upgrades that provide.”

The game offers significant replayability through its character leveling system, new game+ mode, and various unlockables, encouraging players to explore different playstyles and revisit levels. While it may not match the replayability of typical roguelites, it provides ample content and challenges that keep players engaged beyond the initial playthrough. Overall, the combination of puzzles, character diversity, and hidden elements enhances the game's replay value.
“Very replayable; you end up wanting to level up all characters because the benefits of certain mechanics apply to all your characters.”
“Full Metal Furies as a whole feels like a solid game with plenty of replayability with unlockables, secrets, and New Game+.”
“Once you've finished the story, there's still a lot of replay value, including leveling up all of your characters, starting a New Game+, and unraveling a hidden element that I won't spoil here (hint: it involves breaking codes and lateral thinking!).”
“Not as replayable as a lot of roguelites (due to the nature of roguelites, which this isn't), but definitely a game good for more than one playthrough if it clicks for you.”
“Once you've finished the story, there's still a lot of replay value, including leveling up all of your characters, starting a new game+, and unraveling a hidden ... thing that I won't spoil here (hint: it involves breaking codes and lateral thinking!).”

“However, the execution from the dialogue to the character development and world lore is phenomenal, and you can see the love and care that's been put into this game.”

Overall, the game's optimization is generally praised for its smooth performance on lower-end computers and compatibility with mouse and keyboard controls. However, some users express frustration with its limited resolution support, particularly noting that it struggles with common resolutions despite being released in 2018. While the game is enjoyable and challenging, there are notable performance issues that detract from the experience.
“Well, I played the whole game with mouse and keyboard and had absolutely no problems, so don't be intimidated by people that claim this game is optimized only for controllers because it's just not true.”
“The four characters feel great to play; I feel each of them are valuable to a team and that any pair is viable for solo play (excepting optimization for speed, no-hit, etc.).”
“It's a very optimized game and incredibly challenging!”
“It's 2018 and the game is only optimized for 960x540.”
“They claim that they can't optimize for every resolution, but the game isn't even optimized for the most common resolution by an overwhelming margin, according to the Steam hardware survey.”

The game's stability is marred by frequent audio glitches, disorienting perspective adjustments, and occasional crashes, particularly during co-op play. Players have reported issues with cross-platform compatibility and a buggy invite system, leading to frustrating experiences when trying to connect with friends. Overall, the game exhibits several stability concerns that detract from the overall experience.
“There are frequent audio glitches (such as the noise made when resurrecting an ally playing on a loop for the rest of the stage) and there are numerous areas where the strange choice was made to adjust the perspective as you move forward (such as shrinking your party while walking to show the scale of something in the distance), which is extremely disorienting and looks downright awful.”
“Somewhat buggy; the game has crashed a couple of times here and there, and entering lobbies with friends sometimes glitches.”
“The invite-only system was super buggy from the get-go, paired with the annoying fact that the Steam overlay was non-existent.”

This Rogue Legacy follow-up excels in local multiplayer but shrivels when you’re alone.

Full Metal Furies can be fun with friends, but then again, what isn't? With some enemies becoming annoying and forcing a play style, compounded with visuals that have player-characters being a bit too small, playing this can be slightly irritating. At best, it is on the same level as something like Castle Crashers - not Scott Pilgrim VS The World: The Game. Expect a somewhat shallow guilty pleasure that has more pros than cons, but is otherwise forgettable.
