GameBrain for WordPress — Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what data the GameBrain for WordPress plugin ("the Plugin") sends to GameBrain ("we," "our," or "us"), and how we handle it. It applies specifically to the Plugin; use of the GameBrain website is covered by our Terms of Service and Cookie Policy. It supplements, and should be read together with, the GameBrain for WordPress Terms of Service.
1. Summary
The Plugin is designed to be privacy-preserving. It does not collect, store, or transmit any data about the visitors of the website on which it is installed. The only personal data we receive is the administrator email address supplied by the site owner when they connect the Plugin, which is used to create and manage a free GameBrain account for that site.
GameBrain is an independent project operated by its founders within the European Union. For the limited personal data described in this policy — the administrator email address and the site URL — GameBrain acts as the data controller. You can reach us at any time at [email protected].
2. Data the Plugin Sends to GameBrain
2.1 When You Connect
When a site administrator connects the Plugin from the WordPress admin, the Plugin sends two pieces of information to GameBrain in order to create a free, site-scoped account:
- Site URL — the address of the WordPress site, used to identify the account and scope its API access.
- Administrator email address — stored by GameBrain as the account owner, and used to associate the account with the site and to contact the owner about the service if necessary.
2.2 When the Plugin Requests Game Data
To render a block, the Plugin's server requests game data (such as fact cards, review summaries, similar games, and store offers) from the GameBrain API by game identifier. These requests are made from the website's server, identified by the site's account. They do not include any information about the visitor viewing the page. Responses are cached on the website so that rendering never depends on a live request.
3. Visitor Data
The Plugin renders game data on the server and caches it on the website. Visitors browsing pages that contain GameBrain blocks do not have any personal data collected or sent to GameBrain by the Plugin. The Plugin sets no cookies on visitors and runs no tracking scripts in visitors' browsers.
4. Store and Affiliate Links
"Where to buy" blocks may display links to external stores. These links are marked on the page. Some may be affiliate links containing a GameBrain referral parameter, which allows GameBrain to be credited for referred purchases. Whether a visitor follows such a link is entirely the visitor's choice, and doing so is subject to the privacy policy of the destination store. The Plugin does not transmit any visitor data to these stores beyond the fact that the visitor arrived via a GameBrain link.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain the site URL and administrator email for as long as the account is active. When the site owner disconnects the Plugin, or uninstalls it, the Plugin requests deletion of the associated GameBrain account, including the stored administrator email. Site owners may also request deletion at any time by contacting us at the address below.
6. Legal Basis, Data Location, and Your Rights
6.1 Legal Basis
We process the administrator email address and site URL to create and manage your account and to provide the Service you requested by connecting the Plugin. Under the GDPR, our legal basis is the performance of that arrangement at your request (Article 6(1)(b)) and, for keeping the Service secure and correctly attributed, our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)).
6.2 Where Your Data Is Stored
The administrator email and site URL are stored on GameBrain's own systems, hosted on servers provided by Hetzner within the European Union. This data is not transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA), and no other third party receives the administrator email.
6.3 Security
We limit the data we hold to the minimum described in this policy and protect it with appropriate technical and organizational measures against unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure.
6.4 Your Rights
Because we hold your administrator email, you have the right to access it, to have it corrected or erased, and to restrict or object to its processing, as well as the right to data portability. You may exercise any of these rights, including deletion, by contacting us at [email protected]. If you believe we have handled your data improperly, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection supervisory authority.
6.5 Your Responsibilities as a Site Owner
If you operate your website in a jurisdiction with data-protection laws such as the GDPR, you remain the controller of your own visitors' data; because the Plugin collects no visitor data, installing it does not create a new visitor-data processing relationship with GameBrain.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the Plugin or our practices. We encourage you to review it periodically for any updates.
8. Contact Us
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact us at [email protected].
