  • Beautiful, detailed and visually stunning graphics and environments.
  • Fun and innovative cooperative gameplay mechanics encouraging teamwork and communication.
  • Relaxing and charming atmosphere with a soothing soundtrack, suitable for players of varying skill levels and ages.
  • No genuine online multiplayer; co-op is local only and remote play co-op is difficult to set up and often buggy.
  • Mandatory EA launcher/Origin app causes crashes, login issues, and performance problems.
  • Short gameplay length with a vague and underwhelming story; some puzzles and platforming sections can be repetitive or frustrating.
  • story
    590 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story of Unravel Two is largely subtle and minimalist, told without dialogue through visuals and atmospheric cues, focusing on themes of friendship, cooperation, and emotional struggles. While some players found the narrative heartfelt and beautifully integrated with the gameplay, many others described it as vague, confusing, and less impactful compared to the first game, leaving the plot hard to follow or interpret. Overall, the storytelling is a background element that may resonate differently depending on player preference, with more emphasis placed on cooperative puzzle-platforming than on a strong, explicit narrative.

    • “Unravel two continues the tradition of delivering a deeply heartfelt story without uttering a single word.”
    • “The story is subtle but emotional, told more through atmosphere and visuals than dialogue, which I loved.”
    • “It tells a story without words, delivers a message without preaching, and invites players to slow down, reflect, and experience something gentle, hopeful, and quietly profound.”
    • “It lacks a 'real' main story in my opinion and feels rushed.”
    • “Regarding the story, or rather the lack of it, it was not engaging in the slightest, and it was so confusing.”
    • “The story is bad, boring, and bland, and it does not deliver the emotions or gravitas of the first Unravel.”
  • gameplay
    450 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Unravel Two offers refined, fluid gameplay centered on cooperative puzzle-platforming that emphasizes teamwork through innovative yarn-based mechanics like swinging, climbing, and tethering two characters. While generally praised for its charming, smooth mechanics and well-designed puzzles, the gameplay can feel repetitive and less varied compared to its predecessor, with some frustration arising from physics inconsistencies and a late-game mechanic addition. Overall, it shines best as a cooperative experience with accessible controls and satisfying movement, backed by beautiful visuals and ambient music.

    • “The movement mechanics feel excellent because the momentum from swinging is smooth, and Yarny performing a backflip each time makes every leap feel incredibly satisfying.”
    • “Unravel Two is a gorgeous and mechanically polished sequel that excels as a cooperative experience while maintaining the emotional core of the series.”
    • “The dual-Yarny mechanic is at the heart of the experience, requiring players to swing, climb, tether, and cooperate to overcome obstacles. The puzzles are cleverly designed to utilize this mechanic without becoming frustrating.”
    • “The mechanics were not explored and many things were copied level after level.”
    • “The physics are inconsistent, the story is completely incoherent and unrelated to the gameplay, the gameplay itself is frustrating at times (especially the last level, where [spoiler] they added a new mechanic literally for no reason. You did not earn this mechanic, it is not explained within the plot, you do not choose it, and it is not a mechanic that was necessary for the entire game.”
    • “Levels are exceptionally long and drawn out, repeating the same kind of puzzle ad nauseam, for level after level with zero new mechanics ever introduced.”
  • graphics
    379 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Unravel Two is widely praised for its stunning, beautiful graphics characterized by a charming, nature-inspired art style and detailed environments that create an immersive and relaxing atmosphere. While some users note minor technical issues like limited in-game graphics settings and occasional performance hiccups, the visual design remains a standout feature that enhances the cooperative gameplay and emotional storytelling. Overall, the game’s graphics are considered top-tier, adding significantly to its appeal and player enjoyment.

    • “The visuals remain absolutely stunning and provide a beautiful backdrop for the journey.”
    • “Visually, Unravel Two retains the breathtaking, nature-inspired art style of the first game, but with even more variety and richness in its environments.”
    • “With its breathtaking visuals, touching narrative, and inventive gameplay mechanics, Unravel 2 weaves a truly unforgettable adventure.”
    • “From a technical standpoint, it is a bit annoying that you have to actually be in the middle of a game session just to change your graphical options.”
    • “Graphics options are staggeringly limited and poorly implemented.”
    • “Speaking of buggy, the game graphics don't work properly at first and then, when you get them properly set-up, they never load correctly with the game.”
  • music
    293 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's music is widely praised for its calming, atmospheric, and emotionally evocative qualities, often described as soothing, beautiful, and immersive, with orchestral and folk-inspired elements enhancing the gameplay experience. However, some players find the soundtrack repetitive and occasionally mismatched with on-screen events, leading to minor annoyance. Overall, the soundtrack significantly contributes to the game’s relaxing and heartfelt ambiance, making it a standout feature alongside the stunning visuals.

    • “The soundtrack features a delicate blend of Scandinavian folk-inspired music, gentle piano, and strings that shift in tone to reflect the emotional arc of each level.”
    • “The enchanting soundtrack perfectly complements the game's atmosphere, evoking a range of emotions as players progress through the story. The music beautifully captures the whimsical and heartfelt moments, enhancing the sense of wonder and immersion.”
    • “The music really carries the experience to a new level; some interactions and details do that too.”
    • “The music keeps repeating and it gets annoying very quickly, except for the last level that surprisingly has good music throughout.”
    • “The negatives for this game was I felt the soundtrack didn't always flow well with the level and the story told in the background with the faded characters was sometimes completely missed.”
    • “Its literally a walk in the park, and the music is god awful.”
  • emotional
    103 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Unravel Two delivers a heartfelt, emotionally resonant experience centered on themes of friendship, connection, and cooperation, conveyed primarily through visuals, music, and subtle storytelling without words. While its emotional impact is slightly less profound than the original, its charming atmosphere, touching soundtrack, and cooperative gameplay create a warm, wholesome journey that many players find moving and memorable. However, some find the story less clear or impactful, feeling it focuses more on gameplay and co-op elements than deep narrative.

    • “Unravel Two continues the tradition of delivering a deeply heartfelt story without uttering a single word.”
    • “The result is a layered narrative in which the Yarnys’ journey serves as both a literal and symbolic mirror of the emotional struggles faced by the unseen human characters.”
    • “Whether played alone or with someone else, it's a heartfelt journey well worth taking.”
    • “No fun in grinding away listening to depressing violin music while watching a forced, unskippable boring storyline.”
    • “Boring storytelling.”
    • “Boring story.”
  • atmosphere
    63 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's atmosphere is widely praised for its calming, immersive, and beautifully crafted environments, enhanced by relaxing and emotionally resonant music. Visuals, lighting, and environmental effects create distinct, cozy moods that complement the subtle, often poignant storytelling. While some find the narrative vague or less engaging, the overall ambiance provides a charming, peaceful experience, especially in cooperative play.

    • “Unravel Two is a genuinely charming co-op platformer with beautiful visuals, a relaxing atmosphere, and creative mechanics that naturally encourage teamwork — swinging your yarn partner across gaps never gets old.”
    • “The lighting and environmental effects—glowing embers, gentle rainfall, misty backdrops—enhance the atmosphere and mood of each level.”
    • “The enchanting soundtrack of Unravel 2 perfectly complements the game's atmosphere, evoking a range of emotions as players progress through the story.”
    • “There is no emotional connection, no point to the atmosphere, no reason for the enemies that kill the yarn creatures.”
    • “What I'm trying to say is that there are many beautiful and good things in the game, but they require you to stop and think about them or observe them, and there is neither the atmosphere nor the desire to do so.”
    • “Sure the atmosphere of the first game was better, but this one was way better in everything else.”
  • humor
    26 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's humor shines especially in co-op mode, where playful interactions and teamwork lead to many hilarious moments and funny fails. Its charm and comedic elements make it perfect for playing with friends or partners, resulting in laughter-filled, entertaining experiences. While enjoyable solo, the humor truly thrives in cooperative play through miscommunications and creative support.

    • “The game truly shines in co-op, where the duo’s interdependence creates both hilarious miscommunications and satisfying teamwork.”
    • “It is emotional and scary and sarcastic and funny and overall just amazing and so well done.”
    • “The game is just challenging enough but not frustrating and it is such a fun game to play and have real fun laughing and screeching with my boyfriend; this game depends on good communication and coordination to pass the levels and it's so satisfying once you get past a new level.”
  • stability
    26 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Stability is a major concern, with frequent reports of bugs, crashes, and glitches impacting gameplay, remote play, and multiplayer inviting. Users highlight issues with the EA/Origin launcher being buggy and problematic, causing frustrating startup and account linking processes. While some praise smoother controls and good in-game performance, overall the game suffers from persistent technical instability.

    • “The gameplay, graphics, music and atmosphere are rather nice and it's not buggy either, so I don't think it deserves 'mixed' reviews.”
    • “We spent an entire hour troubleshooting — restarting the game, restarting remote play, and even restarting our PCs — with no success.”
    • “The amount of work you have to do just to start playing is crazy, the invite system is buggy and when you try to play, you get blasted with loud sounds and no access to the menu until the torture ends.”
    • “It runs fine for a few minutes and then hard locks my PC and freezes; I have to restart my PC because I can't do anything afterwards.”
  • optimization
    26 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Optimization receives mixed feedback: while some users praise smooth performance and good optimization with minimal bugs, others report stuttering, lag, and poor co-op performance, especially in online or remote play. Certain technical issues like screen flickering and heavy reliance on specific apps further impact the experience, and some graphical effects reduce clarity and may affect performance for some players.

    • “Technically, Unravel Two runs smoothly and looks polished.”
    • “Charming game that respects my time with great optimization and satisfying puzzles.”
    • “It's optimized very well and runs with absolutely no bugs whatsoever.”
    • “It requires Origin/EA app running, and I swear that its usage introduces stuttering when playing the game.”
    • “For online co-op it requires player 2 to use a controller but the performance is so laggy and jumpy that you can't actually play it.”
    • “There is no option for coop gameplay whatsoever, not to mention how the menu is unoptimized for PC, a huge oversight.”
  • grinding
    20 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Grinding in the game is widely regarded as tedious and frustrating, especially with speedrun achievements and platforming challenges requiring extensive practice. The lack of checkpoints in side quests exacerbates the difficulty, making progress feel slow and unrewarding. While some improvements were noted, overall grinding demands significant time and patience, leading many players to feel they "need a second life" to complete it.

    • “You'll need a second life for grinding.”
    • “You'll need a second life for grinding.”
    • “You'll need a second life for grinding.”
    • “Starts slow but not very long, most of my time was grinding the speedrun achievements.”
    • “No fun in grinding away listening to depressing violin music while watching a forced unskippable boring storyline.”
    • “However, grinding achievements is far from fun and is downright frustrating, especially the platforming challenges which take many hours of practice (in total) to get right.”
  • replayability
    12 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Replayability in this game is generally limited, with the core story being short and easily completed in a couple of sessions. However, additional challenge levels, collectibles, achievements, and speedrunning potential provide some incentive for replay. Overall, while not deeply replayable for all players, those interested in completing extras or mastering speedruns may find ongoing value.

    • “There are extra levels and achievements, so there is potential for replayability; I will keep playing.”
    • “The levels are well-designed and offer a good amount of replayability.”
    • “You can easily finish the story in one to two sessions, and there's some replay value with challenge levels, collectible secrets, and achievements for completing every level without dying.”
    • “Limited replayability.”
    • “With little to no replay value (unless you want to do some speedrunning) and a lack of impactful moments (unlike the first game), I don’t see myself coming back to “Unravel 2” anytime soon.”
    • “Limited replayability, aside from collectibles and challenge levels.”
  • monetization
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game features no microtransactions, which is a pleasant surprise given the publisher, but is plagued by cumbersome online co-op requiring remote play and mandatory account registration with ads and unskippable intros. The advertising of co-op play is misleading on PC due to controller requirements, leading to frustration and perceptions of a cash grab.

    • “Surprisingly no microtransactions considering the publisher.”
    • “I had to spend more time registering a mandatory EA account, encountering all sorts of error messages and ads, having to watch the intro with no option to skip, and trying to find the multiplayer option.”
    • “Just another in the long list of failures by EA for a cash grab with busted games!”
    • “Beautiful and fun platformer, however, advertising a game to have online co-op when the only solution is the dumpster fire which is remote play should be punishable by severe tickling!”
  • character development
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Character development is praised for its immaculate design, with detailed animations and an adorable, well-crafted character that enhances the overall immersive experience.
