- November 10, 2018
- Rival Games

Based on the comic book series of the same name created by Robert Kirkman of The Walking Dead fame, Thief of Thieves: Season One can’t make its mind up if it wants to be a stealth or a modern-day equivalent of a point and click game.
Thief of Thieves: Season One is a story of heists and the people behind them. It's time for Celia, protege of master thief Redmond, to make the leap from apprentice to master. A new continent and a new team, will you make the cut?

The gameplay has been criticized for its numerous technical issues, including significant framerate drops, long loading times, and game-breaking bugs. Players find the mechanics tedious and clunky, particularly in the stealth segments, which feel poorly implemented and frustrating. While some appreciate the voice acting and character development, the overall experience is marred by these gameplay shortcomings.
“The voice acting and writing had me invested in these characters, and I enjoyed my journey with them; I just wish it had less of the stealth gameplay, which isn’t exactly great since this is a stealth game.”
“The stealth gameplay feels like those forced, half-baked stealth sessions in other games, as the mechanics are clunky... and then some.”
“There are also a handful of unforgivable technical issues; noticeable framerate problems, a bug that crashes you back to your console's homescreen, and overly long loading times that break up the gameplay far too often.”
“Tedious, clunky gameplay, broken AI, annoying characters, lame dialogue, and a boring story, along with framerate issues, loading times, and a bug that crashes you to the homescreen.”

The game's cel-shaded, comic-book style graphics are praised for their beauty and artistic quality, complemented by great writing and voice acting. However, the Switch port suffers from significant issues, including blurriness in handheld mode and pixelation when docked, which detracts from the overall visual experience. Additionally, some technical glitches and a lack of a free-form camera during stealth moments further compromise the graphics quality.

Thief of Thieves Review
Instead of pulling off a perfect heist, Thief of Thieves: Season One was tackled at the door by a 6ft tall cockroach wearing a security guard uniform. It may look nice, but no single element of gameplay works properly.

Thief of Thieves is an awful video game. It's tedious and clunky, has broken AI, awful dialogue, miserable characters and a boring story that has absolutely nothing of interest to say or add to the heist genre. Its cel-shaded, comic-book style graphics are a strong point, but they're compromised here by a weak Switch port that's too blurry in handheld mode and horribly pixelated when you dock it to play on a big screen. There are also a handful of unforgivable technical issues; noticeable framerate problems, a bug that crashes you back to your console's homescreen and overly long loading times that break up the gameplay far too often. In short, this is a crime-heist caper that's out to rob you of your time and money and is, in every conceivable way, much more of a snore than a score. Avoid.
