- gameplay7 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
The gameplay of "The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2" features a mix of addictive core mechanics and extensive customization options, but suffers from a lack of depth and repetitive elements that can lead to monotony. While the game offers a charming cast of characters and a variety of weapons, the lengthy story segments detract from the overall experience, making it feel more like a visual novel than a traditional action RPG. Despite these shortcomings, it remains a solid sequel with hours of content to explore.
“Hundred Knight has full customization over his combos, gigacalories keep stages tense, and the core gameplay loop sets itself up to be fairly addictive.”
“With its cast of unique, adorable, and amazing characters, and a storyline sure to defrost even the coldest Garachi ice golem's heart, The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 serves as proof that with the right upgrades and refinements to gameplay, no series is beyond saving when given the proper TLC it deserves.”
“[Loveable characters, hours of content to enjoy, good variety of weapons and facets to spice up gameplay.]”
“Poorly written, with a horrendous story to gameplay ratio, it's hard not to see Hundred Knight 2 as more of a visual novel/button masher than an action RPG.”
“Unfortunately, the script isn't compelling enough to justify the long stretches of story before gameplay picks back up.”
“With the combat mechanics and systems falling short at providing much-needed depth, Hundred Knight 2 can only be tolerated in short bursts before becoming mind-numbing.”
The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 Review
The Witch and The Hundred Knight 2 is a colourful, funny, and interesting game, but it's greatly hindered by a drawn-out, convoluted battle system. Hardcore JRPG fans will get more out of this game than the casual player, but as a whole it just feels far too inaccessible for its own good.
50%The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 Review
The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 might scratch that action RPG itch for anyone desperately craving more from the genre, but casual fans might struggle to find much lasting power in NIS' latest endeavour. Poorly written, with a horrendous story to gameplay ratio, it's hard not to see Hundred Knight 2 as more visual novel/button masher than action RPG. It's a shame considering the combat can be genuinely great at times. Hundred Knight has full customisation over his combos, GigaCalories keep stages tense, and the core gameplay loop sets itself up to be fairly addictive. Unfortunately, the script isn't compelling enough to justify the long stretches of story before gameplay picks back up. When the game is actually allowed to be a game, though, The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 offers enough combat variety to keep hacking and slashing serviceable.
