  • The game offers engaging and tense gameplay, with a fast-paced combat experience reminiscent of classic top-down shooters.
  • The developers have shown great communication and support, addressing bugs and maintaining the game post-launch.
  • The camera is fixed to the avatar, making it difficult to scout ahead and often leading to frustrating encounters with enemies.
  • Players frequently run out of ammo quickly, which can lead to repetitive trial-and-error gameplay and frustrating boss fights.
  • The story and overall presentation are lacking, with dull audio-visual elements that fail to create an immersive experience.

    12 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is characterized by a mix of interesting mechanics, including a unique enemy possession feature that allows for aggressive strategies, though it lacks depth and polish. While the core shooting mechanics are solid and offer varied strategies, the overall experience can feel shallow and repetitive due to limited levels and design issues. Despite these drawbacks, the game provides a fast-paced, enjoyable experience reminiscent of classic shooters, with a blend of silliness and hyper-violent action.

    • “Apart from the usual shooting mechanic, you can also 'possess' enemies and use them to kill other enemies.”
    • “The mechanics are solid and varied enough to allow for various strategies per level; although a couple more levels or areas to use them would not harm the game at all as you don't get a terribly long period of time with the sets of powers you are given access to.”
    • “A really enjoyable top-down shooter in the tradition of other fast-paced games such as the venerable Doom, promising no-holds-barred combat and intuitive yet novel mechanics.”
    • “The mechanics in it are different and there's quite a bit of challenge in it.”
    • “It is worth mentioning that the keystone mechanic, possessing enemies, doesn't really change all that much about the gameplay; what it does do is allow you to approach the levels in a far more aggressive manner with possessed guards then, once they're expended, playing more methodically with the protagonist.”
    • “Hotline Miami mechanics with some design issues made up for with gimmicks.”
  • story
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story has received mixed reviews, with some finding it lacking depth and engagement, while others appreciate its silliness and compare it favorably to games like Hotline Miami for its clearer narrative and variety introduced by superpowers. Overall, many feel the story is not compelling enough to sustain interest.

    • “The story is a little silly, but that works in a game like this.”
    • “Reminds me strongly of Hotline Miami; however, it has a clearer storyline, and the addition of superpowers gives the game lots of variety.”
    • “But ultimately there is not enough of a story or any hook to really keep me going, and I would rather archive this permanently for declutter.”
    • “The story and soundtrack are dull and uninteresting.”
  • graphics
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's retro pixel graphics and inadequate dpi scaling result in a visually unappealing experience, particularly on UHD displays, where elements appear too small. While the simplicity of the pixel art contributes to the game's charm, it ultimately detracts from the overall visual impact.

    • “The retro pixel graphics and poor DPI scaling (everything looks tiny on a UHD display) hold this game back.”
    • “Another thing that makes the game harder than it has to be is the pixel art graphics.”
  • music
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game receives mixed reviews; while some players find it engaging and tense with an impressive soundtrack, others feel that both the story and the music are dull and uninteresting.

    • “I found it to be engaging and tense, with an awesome soundtrack.”
  • grinding
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players find the grinding aspect of the game to be conceptually appealing but ultimately tedious and unenjoyable in practice.

    • “Sounds cool in theory, but it's tedious as hell.”
    • “The grinding feels endless and lacks any real reward.”
    • “It's just a repetitive slog that drains the fun out of the game.”
  • atmosphere
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The atmosphere of Hotline Miami is perceived as slightly less immersive compared to its predecessor, suggesting a reduction in the game's overall intensity and mood.
