The gameplay of the prologue for Ship Graveyard Simulator 2 has received mixed reviews, with many praising its improved mechanics, engaging ship destruction, and stunning graphics. However, some players find the gameplay loop repetitive and slow, suggesting that the addition of resource management elements like blades and fuel would enhance the experience. Overall, while the game offers a more polished and immersive experience compared to its predecessor, performance issues and a lack of depth in certain areas have been noted.
“Complete destruction of the ship, abstracted material collection to accommodate more complex salvage, streamlined gameplay loop so you spend more time breaking ships down and much much less time transporting materials.”
“The core gameplay is more engaging and the destruction more satisfying to watch.”
“The gameplay is challenging but rewarding, requiring careful planning and strategy to efficiently dismantle each ship while avoiding accidents and environmental damage.”
“I understand that this is a prologue and not a full game, but the gameplay is just horrendously slow.”
“If you came here looking for a higher graphic version of the first game or even the same kind of gameplay, just go back to the original.”
“I also got my little brother to try this demo out and he doesn't really enjoy simulator type games much, but he got bored of the gameplay loop very quickly.”

The graphics in the game have received mixed reviews, with many players praising the detailed visuals and improvements over previous versions, particularly in the depiction of ships and their destructible parts. However, some users have reported significant performance issues, including low frame rates and high GPU usage even on the lowest settings, suggesting that the game may be poorly optimized. Overall, while the graphics are visually appealing, they may not justify the technical difficulties experienced by some players.
“An excellent ship destruction game with beautiful graphics and very interesting gameplay, I advise everyone to play this game.”
“I was blown away by the game's graphics and attention to detail, from the rusty and decrepit ships to the various tools and machinery used to take them apart.”
“Ship Graveyard Simulator 2 Prologue delivers stunning graphics and immersive gameplay that keeps you coming back for more!”
“If you came here looking for a higher graphic version of the first game or even the same kind of gameplay, just go back to the original.”
“Framerates tank to 28fps when using right click with the hammer to collapse boat parts with everything on very low. I can't even hold a steady 60fps on very low now, and putting the settings up to even medium reaches 99% GPU usage and tanks FPS when approaching shop/trading counters. It still feels really unoptimized, my GPU is almost on fire with settings above very low, and there are major drops even on very low at parts. I wouldn't mind if the graphics justified it, but they don't. It's such a shame as the gameplay is actually good.”
“Graphics for a free game is even nothing.”

The reviews indicate a mixed reception regarding the game's story, with some players expressing uncertainty about its existence or relevance, while others find it captivating and engaging. Many users emphasize that gameplay should take precedence over story, suggesting that a strong narrative is not essential for enjoyment. Overall, the game's mechanics and graphics are highlighted as more appealing aspects than the story itself.
“I could not even imagine that there is a game with such a plot and actions, a very unusual game. After that, perhaps, a habit will appear to demonstrate all unnecessary items from real life.”
“First of all, I was hooked on the graphics - they're really cool, there's interesting mechanics, and there's a fascinating story.”
“With its captivating storyline, realistic graphics, and challenging gameplay, it is sure to delight fans of exploration games and underwater enthusiasts alike.”
“I don't know if a story is planned but if so I hope you follow the shipbreakers model of focusing on gameplay first to lure people in and worry about the story after.”
“No one wants to wade through boring gameplay for a good story.”

The game's grinding aspect is a mixed bag; while some players find it enjoyable and appreciate improvements over the original, others criticize it as tedious and slow, particularly when it comes to upgrading and disassembling larger ships. Overall, it appeals to those who enjoy grinding for rewards, but many hope for a reduction in grindiness in future updates.
“You'll need a second life for grinding.”
“Sadly, I foresee this game having the same problem as the prequel: the bigger ships will be incredibly tedious to disassemble.”
“Upgrades are slow and grindy.”
“This game is tedious, unnecessary, and does nothing that other games don't do better.”

Overall, the game's optimization has been criticized for significant performance issues, with players experiencing inconsistent frame rates even on recommended hardware. While some improvements have been noted, particularly in handling certain actions, there are still persistent frame drops during specific gameplay scenarios, indicating that further optimization is necessary before the game's release. Players remain hopeful for future updates to enhance performance.
“I could also only manage low shadows to keep the fps at a somewhat 60fps, which is odd considering games like Dying Light push so much more with very high shadows set and rarely ever drop below 60fps. Clearly, the game needs more optimization before release.”
“On performance, it's getting there. I see big improvements to fps when breaking down parts, rarely dropping below 60fps, whereas before it dropped to as low as 38fps. Well done to the team on that front; however, there is still room for improvements regarding fps drops when using the saw against a random wall, as the fps still tanks into the mid 40s. I would love if this can be fixed before release.”
“Update: The developer has told me that they will try to optimize the code further, so I am hopeful the performance will improve :)”
“Aside from that, my PC tries to take off with the weak, old graphics on a tiny, mostly static map, so it probably lacks optimization big time.”
“The game seems to be relaxing and the concept is good, but right now in its current state I wouldn't recommend it as the performance is all over the place. For example, I meet the recommended specs (GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, AMD Ryzen 4600H with 16GB RAM) and it cannot stick to 60fps even on very low settings. The biggest issues seem to be with the saw effects when sawing at a random wall continuously; the fps tanks to around 47fps. The same happens with ship parts collapsing, and this is true even with all settings on low or any resolution.”
“I will give it another go if and when the team gets to optimize the game even further. In its current state, though, the performance is (at least for me) awful.”

“The physics are laggy and buggy in several aspects, which makes collecting dropped items a pain.”
“I don't know why everyone is experiencing glitches.”
