About
In Rogue Wizards, manage your own magical academy and delve into procedurally generated dungeons filled with loot and enemies. Utilize a wide range of spells and abilities to defeat foes and customize your wizard's appearance and skills. Engage in crafting, exploration, and turn-based combat in this addictive blend of RPG and strategy elements.

- The game features charming graphics and a colorful art style that enhances the overall experience.
- The loot system is engaging, with items leveling up and gaining new abilities as they are used, encouraging players to experiment with different gear.
- The turn-based combat is fast-paced and allows for strategic decision-making, making battles feel dynamic and rewarding.
- The game suffers from a lack of meaningful progression, as enemies level up alongside the player, diminishing the sense of growth and achievement.
- Combat can become tedious due to the slow pace of enemy actions and the need to switch weapons or spells, which consumes turns.
- The storyline is generic and lacks depth, making it less compelling for players seeking a rich narrative experience.
story
165 mentions Positive Neutral NegativeThe story in "Rogue Wizards" is generally considered to be simplistic and predictable, often described as a typical hero's journey with a hackneyed plot that lacks depth and originality. While the game features two modes—story mode with town-building elements and a gauntlet mode focused on dungeon crawling—many players find the narrative uninspiring and repetitive, serving primarily as a backdrop for gameplay rather than a compelling experience. Despite its shortcomings, some players appreciate the casual nature of the story mode and the engaging mechanics, making it a decent option for those seeking light entertainment.
“The story mode is very good with the ability to play endless dungeons afterward or go on the half-hour session (if doing item management) of side quests, forever.”
“It’s suited and long and, though the story is your typical you’re-a-hero-now-save-the-world affair, it does a good job of keeping you engaged run after run.”
“The first is story mode where you have a decent little narrative about a suppressed people being told they could never use magic, suddenly discovering in fact they can and that the powers that be are corrupt.”
“It quickly turns into a tediously repetitive grind with an eye-rolling story and no new content other than palette swaps.”
“The story mode gives you a rather hackneyed plot (with plenty of little grammatical errors) and a town with people to talk to and shops to visit between dungeons, while perma-death gauntlet mode does away with all of the extras and just gives you dungeon after dungeon through which you can crawl until you die, or tire of the experience.”
“The storyline is pretty much non-existent.”

80%Rogue Wizards (PC) Review
The random nature of so many of Rogue Wizards‘ elements guarantees experiences that are dynamic, but the repetitive core gameplay and tedium of inventory management can also make them monotonous. The Story mode’s narrative doesn’t add anything to make the gameplay more compelling, so you may be better off with the Gauntlet mode’s endless dungeon. Either way, this game works best in casual play sessions.

Deep into a dungeon, surrounded by foes, allies defeated, and health low, I fear my time is up.
