    158 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay of "pih" is widely praised for its engaging, smooth, and innovative mechanics that blend fast-paced action, physics-based movement, and creative level design. Players appreciate its intuitive yet deep systems, varied combat options, and the evolving challenges across seasons, resulting in an addictive and rewarding experience. While some note minor rough edges or movement issues, overall, the game excels as a pure, immersive gameplay-focused indie title.

    • “The core gameplay loop is polished to near perfection, creating a rhythm that players effortlessly fall into and never want to leave.”
    • “Throughout the game you get introduced to new mechanics like driving, and oh boy, the driving is good. As someone who has spent hundreds of hours in 'realistic' driving simulators, I have never experienced realism to this degree. The amount of detail put into gameplay sections that are used sparingly is impressive. Later in the game, you also attain new abilities to help traverse the vast world, like the punch jump, which creates a beautiful harmony of using your main weapon for movement and combat simultaneously, or the grappling hook, which can make you go at breakneck speeds or slowly and methodically reach vantage points for long-distance grappling.”
    • “Every mechanic feels intentional, and every moment feeds directly into the core loop that makes the game so addictive.”
    • “The gameplay is garbage, basically WASD movement and 3 different attacks that all do basically the same thing, with each level being either 2 minutes or 30 minutes depending on how hard the last 3 pickles are to find.”
    • “In all honesty, if this game just had better movement/parkour, it wouldn't be too bad, but the horrible movement mechanics in this game really bring it down.”
    • “The levels were horrible, the bosses were a sin to game design, and the game mechanics were depressingly inconsistent.”

    • “Such a rich story makes anyone who plays get so heavily invested in the meaning without even noticing.”
    • “The characters have all been given rich backstories and personalities, and as the plot of the game unfolds, these characters drive the player to make some of the most challenging decisions one could be faced with in a video game.”
    • “One of the most emotional and stunning story games I have ever played, I doubt anything will ever top this masterpiece.”
    • “There’s no dialogue, no explicit story, no guiding voice explaining the stakes.”
    • “Those seeking a sense of progression beyond level completion, or who prefer structured storytelling and character development, may find pih too barebones.”
    • “The game is very linear in terms of missions so a lot is up to interpretation.”

    • “What I didn’t expect was to come out the other side, four hours later, sitting in stunned silence, feeling like I’d just processed years of emotional backlog I didn’t even realize I was carrying.”
    • “Crafted by the gods themselves, PIH is an emotional rollercoaster, full of love, death, joy, and sadness, all culminating in what appears on the surface to be just a simple unreal game... I can't even say game, this is more like an experience, like the joy of being born into the same world that PIH exists in, and alive within the time that you can experience it.”

    • “More fun than many modern AAA games, which either says a lot about PIH or says a lot about the state of modern AAA studios and how they value microtransactions and profit over fun.”
  • character development
