Lightseekers
Despite a limiting always-online requirement and a current lack of support for docked/tabletop play, Lightseekers rescues itself from by disaster thanks largely to the robust nature of its card system, the support for scanning in physical cards and the sheer depth of tactics available to different skill levels. Thankfully, it's also free-to-play and the the ability to earn digital cards at a steady pace via in-game challenges will keep players coming back for more each day. It’s great to finally have a proper CCG on Switch – even if it's not properly optimised for Nintendo’s hybrid console quite yet.

- Unique gameplay mechanics with card rotation system and integration of physical cards that can be scanned and used in the digital game across multiple platforms.
- Accessible and easy to learn for newcomers while still offering strategic depth for experienced players, making it a good introduction to trading card games.
- Free-to-play with generous in-game rewards and missions, allowing players to earn cards without paying; casual and fast-paced matches are enjoyable.
- The game suffers from a poor PC port with a mobile-oriented interface, lack of UI scaling, slow animations, and overall technical issues including unstable servers and bugs.
- High pay-to-win elements and difficult campaign modes often force players to spend money to progress; grinding as a free player can be frustrating and slow.
- Small and declining player base with matchmaking problems, leading to dead multiplayer modes and lengthy wait times; poor developer communication and lack of updates hurt community trust.
- gameplay23 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
The gameplay of this card game is praised for its unique and engaging mechanics, offering a good balance of strategy and casual play with strong single-player and multiplayer content. However, some advanced rules can be poorly explained, and certain mechanics, like card rotation and shuffling, may feel overcomplicated or lack depth for more hardcore players. Overall, it is recommended especially for fans of lighter, visually appealing trading card games.
“If this game is not dead (it seems to still have automatic events, other players in the casual lobby, and other things such as a working store), then the mechanics and nature of the card game is super cool and worth a look from any card game fan!”
“And that just the gameplay itself, the other thing that makes me so happy is there is so much single player content. I played so many card games in my day that were made for PS1, PS2, or GBA and they don't have nearly the content in this game and this is a free game. If you're into card games like Yu-Gi-Oh for GBA or PSP to play single-player only, this game has so much to do. It's crazy how amazing this is.”
“A lot of thought went into designing gameplay and software, give it a try even if you have some preconceptions about it, you won't regret it!”
“There are times where some of the more advanced rules and mechanics are not explained very well, which is a bit of a negative.”
“Secondly, the game's mechanics are flawed; the cards are completely bland. Without creatures, actual combat, or any depth of strategy, this is by far the worst card game I have ever had the displeasure of picking up.”
“It's overcomplicated due to rotating card mechanics and cards that need to shuffle specific card types from your hand to be played.”
