gameplay
12 mentions Positive Neutral NegativeThe gameplay experience is marred by a lengthy and unengaging introduction filled with basic tutorials that may frustrate seasoned players. While the battle mechanics are well-developed and the game offers substantial content, the lack of player control during the initial cut-scenes and the absence of ambush mechanics in encounters detract from the overall experience. Despite these issues, many players find the gameplay enjoyable and rich in narrative.
“⚡ Fleshed out battle mechanics and out of battle interactions.”
“This has been a very interesting game with a lot of content in regards to both the story and gameplay aspects.”
“Overall, the cons section is mostly nitpicks that don't impact my gameplay experience significantly nor would I expect them to for the average player.”
“The intro of this game is just rough to say the least. You sit through about 10 minutes of cut-scenes just to finally play, and it's just an info dump tutorial explaining absolute basic mechanics like taunt and healing potions, things that anyone who has ever touched this genre will already be hyper familiar with. It also does not help that you have absolutely zero control over your characters' movements during this outside of battle.”
“On-map encounters don't provide any sort of ambush or surprise mechanic, so just rushing the enemy or letting them rush you yields about the same result.”
“Tl;dr: openings should be short and sweet with a good narrative hook, try to give players control of their characters relatively quickly even if they can only walk around a small area, tutorials should not be mandatory and should explain absolute basic RPG mechanics, and lastly, keep the UI clean.”
