  • The story is engaging with a branching narrative that offers different paths and perspectives, reminiscent of the 'Way of the Samurai' series.
  • The combat can feel repetitive and lacks depth, often devolving into simple countering and parrying, which may not be satisfying for all players.

  • There are limitations in character dialogue and interactions, which can detract from the overall immersion and storytelling experience.
  • story
    48 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story in the game is generally well-received, featuring an intricate and non-linear narrative with decent branching paths, though some players noted inconsistencies related to the main character's memory during time loops. While the dialogue could benefit from more uniqueness in repeated events, the characters are engaging and the overall plot is considered a highlight, especially for an early access title. Despite some bugs and a lack of memorable moments, the story is seen as a solid foundation that players are eager to see expanded in future updates.

    • “The story, character design, music, art style for the character, and gameplay are great in my opinion.”
    • “I didn’t go in expecting much from Amedama but was pleasantly surprised by the game as it really feels like a Way of the Samurai spinoff game with a much more serious tone and a pretty good story.”
    • “Despite being in early access, the game can be played from start to finish as the story is complete and it is really a highlight of this game.”
    • “Story-wise, it's a bit weird that in some loops the main character already had some information and then the time loops and he just forgot about it.”
    • “I get why it happened as it's to maintain the thrill of the story, but it's still jarring sometimes.”
    • “Considering all the paths and variations, it does somewhat explain why the story isn't perfect.”
  • gameplay
    30 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay features a unique possession mechanic that many players find engaging, though it is accompanied by some unpolished elements and bugs. While the combat is generally satisfactory, it can become repetitive over time. Overall, the game offers a decent experience with interesting mechanics, but it may benefit from further refinement and expansion of its core features.

    • “The soul shifting mechanic is very interesting, and I hope it will be expanded upon following the release from early access, giving more unique interactions and responses dependent on the possessed character.”
    • “Besides some bugs I discovered that can be neglected, Amedama is a pretty decent 2D game with moderate gameplay difficulty, suitable for those who want to spend some effort to defeat bosses or enemy groups.”
    • “One other issue I had was the soul glow mechanic.”
    • “Besides some bugs I discovered that can be neglected, Amedama is a pretty decent 2D game with moderate gameplay difficulty (suitable for those who want to spend some bit of effort to defeat bosses, or sometimes against enemy groups). The story is okay, not bad but nothing too special or memorable; music and character design are also fine.”
    • “The gameplay is alright.”
