  • Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor's Gambit is widely regarded as one of the best games in the Ace Attorney franchise, featuring compelling storylines, strong character development, and clever mysteries that tie together into a cohesive plot.
  • The collection offers a fresh perspective by letting players experience investigations from the viewpoint of Miles Edgeworth, with engaging gameplay that involves moving around crime scenes, gathering evidence, and using logic and deduction.
  • The remastered HD graphics, new expressive character sprites, and arranged soundtrack greatly enhance the presentation, and the games include quality of life features such as chapter select, story mode, and the option to switch between classic pixel art and modern visuals.
  • Ace Attorney Investigations 1 is considered by many to be the weaker game in the collection, criticized for slow pacing, drawn-out cases, repetitive dialogue, and an overall less engaging story and cast compared to other Ace Attorney titles.
  • The new Mind Chess mechanic introduced in Investigations 2 has received mixed reviews, with some players finding it clunky or tedious, and there are occasional instances of obscure logic puzzles and frustrating evidence presentation that can hinder gameplay flow.
  • Some players noted typos and grammatical errors in the localization of Investigations 2, uneven pacing and occasional filler in cases, and that the chibi art style may not appeal to everyone due to its contrast with the series' generally serious tone.
  • story

    238 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
31% positive mentions, 66% neutral mentions, 3% negative mentions

The "Ace Attorney Investigations" series features interconnected cases that contribute to a larger, often complex overarching plot, with the second game generally regarded as having a stronger, more cohesive, and emotionally engaging story than the first. While some find the first game's narrative scattered and slower-paced with less impactful twists, the second entry is praised for its refined storytelling, satisfying plot twists, and deeper character development, particularly of Miles Edgeworth. Overall, the series offers a unique, detective-focused take on the franchise's familiar courtroom drama formula, balancing humor, drama, and mystery, making it a compelling experience especially for fans invested in the characters and overarching narrative.

    • “The characters are cool, deep, the overarching plot is fantastic, and the final plot twist is quite nice.”
    • “It's got all of the best parts of the original trilogy with better gameplay and an excellent story - recommended to absolutely anyone who is even kind of interested!”
    • “Both investigations games are stories where each case is relevant to one big plot rather than separate cases that don't always link together--there's no filler cases in either of the games, and Investigations 2 especially is my favorite of the two.”
    • “The overarching plot is weak, Kay is the most annoying helper so far, and Miles lacks the charisma the Naruhodos have.”
    • “The first game feels so all over the place; the whole smuggling ring and Yatagarasu plot line feels forced at times; and the last case is so lengthy it made me bored at a certain point, and the two main plot twists were not that impressive.”
    • “The plot of each case as well as the overarching plot are boring and the pacing ranges from okay to abysmal (looking at you, case 5).”
  • music

    136 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
37% positive mentions, 61% neutral mentions, 2% negative mentions

The music in this collection is widely praised for its fantastic, catchy, and atmospheric soundtrack, enhanced by remastered and rearranged orchestral versions that elevate key themes. While most users appreciate the option to toggle between original and updated soundtracks, some express frustration that only select tracks are arranged and that certain arranged OST content is locked behind pre-order bonuses. Overall, the soundtrack is a standout feature, complementing the game's new HD visuals and enriching the experience for both returning fans and newcomers.

    • “The collection's soundtrack is better than sex.”
    • “The remastered soundtrack, with the option to revert to the original audio, adds a layer of customization that complements the upgraded art.”
    • “The collection works great on both PC and Steam Deck; the rearranged music sounds wonderful (original version is available if you prefer that) and you can choose between the old pixel art and the new HD sprites, which look fantastic as well.”
    • “Sadly, unlike Ghost Trick (great game, check it out), this game's arranged OST is only for the objection, pursuit, confrontation ~ allegro and confrontation ~ presto themes of both games.”
    • “Remastered music for the 2nd game is locked behind a preorder which is horrible for the only version of the game available to purchase.”
    • “The arrangements also don't fit well when only the few iconic tracks were remade, instead of the entire soundtrack.”
  • gameplay

    123 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
36% positive mentions, 57% neutral mentions, 7% negative mentions

The gameplay in these Ace Attorney Investigations titles offers a fresh twist on the classic formula by focusing on investigation and logical deduction outside the courtroom, featuring innovative mechanics like logic linking and mind chess that add strategic depth. While praised for its engaging mysteries, character interactions, and smoother pacing compared to earlier entries, some players find the investigation segments slow or occasionally repetitive, and the mind chess mechanic divisive. Overall, the gameplay balances familiar series elements with new ideas, resulting in an addictive and satisfying experience for fans seeking variety beyond traditional courtroom battles.

    • “Just 5 cases of top-tier Ace Attorney gameplay and storytelling.”
    • “While the gameplay is very different from traditional Ace Attorney games (mainly the Phoenix Wright trilogy), it's still very addictive to inspect every suspicious looking nook and cranny, crack testimonies and fight for the truth no matter what!”
    • “It's got all of the best parts of the original trilogy with better gameplay and an excellent story - recommended to absolutely anyone who is even kind of interested!”
    • “It's boring, it's long, it has bad gameplay because the investigation gameplay is inherently flawed.”
    • “It is boring most of the time; put the game in auto play eat, exercise, go to work, go to Costco buy a rotisserie chicken and come back home it would still be playing without any touch, a biggest BS. Let me play like in Phoenix Wright, bro. Fr dull gameplay (for first chapter only), too monotone, predictable. Kay is Maya v.2 but Edgeworth is edging; he is cool and I was already empathizing with him a lot during Phoenix Wright. That is reason why it kept me going. I was ready to uninstall the game at any point; however, the second chapter of the game which is last 5 episodes was pretty cool. I have no hate to second chapter, rather opposite, they did a good job. I liked a lot especially the last episode and I think reason why people give so many positive feedback is the ending I can relate but IMO first 30 hrs of BS plot and dull gameplay not worth it. I advise you watch from YouTube instead and that will be no difference at all, but if you still wanna see, go for it you might buy just for the second chapter!”
    • “Apart from adding a horrendous new mechanic of “mind chess”, which might be the worst “dialogue battle”-type mini-game I’ve ever experienced in my life, this title just starts with the clown makeup half-applied, and rapidly continues to become a farce by the end of the first case.”
  • graphics

    86 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
42% positive mentions, 55% neutral mentions, 3% negative mentions

The graphics in this collection feature a significant and well-received overhaul with a new polished HD chibi art style, accompanied by the option to toggle back to the classic pixel art for nostalgic appeal. While the updated visuals are praised for their detail, expressiveness, and modernization, some players find the chibi style less fitting or less refined than the original sprites. Overall, the dual art styles and enhanced presentation provide a customizable and visually impressive experience that revitalizes these older games for modern platforms.

    • “Players can switch between the original pixel graphics and newly drawn HD visuals, giving fans the freedom to enjoy the classic aesthetic or embrace a cleaner, more modern style.”
    • “The HD graphics are well done, the arranged OST is amazing and all of these features make these older games look and feel brand new.”
    • “Capcom went the extra mile and remastered both games well, with crisp visuals and incredible chibi HD sprites in lieu of the pixel art ones featured on DS (still available if so inclined).”
    • “My only complaint is with the pixel graphics mode, as the chibis do not have their original outlines preserved and instead have these ugly half-pixels and the pixel portraits are not present.”
    • “But if you don't like the new art style & play the game in English or Japanese, I do not recommend buying the game at this price; 40€ is way too expensive for translation & a horrible new visual style (glad that you can still choose pixel art), wait for it to be on sale or use an emulator.”
    • “You can toggle the original pixel artwork for the sprites in the walking around sections, but you're stuck with the horrible 'HD' artwork for everything else.”
  • humor

    36 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
100% positive mentions, 0% neutral mentions, 0% negative mentions

The humor in the game is praised for its witty, quirky dialogue, memorable and amusing characters, and the balanced blend of comedy with drama and mystery. While some fans note a slight reduction in comedic focus compared to earlier titles and occasional character-related frustrations, overall the humor remains a standout element that enhances the engaging and fresh narrative experience.

    • “The updated visuals look super clean, the remastered soundtrack is awesome, and the writing is as witty and hilarious as ever.”
    • “Gumshoe being his lovable self, Kay bringing so much energy, and of course Edgeworth’s dry humor—it all just works.”
    • “I played every Ace Attorney game, and this one is the funniest and the one I enjoyed the most of them all; the pace, the humor, the characters, everything is really awesome.”
  • emotional

    21 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game delivers a deeply emotional experience through well-developed characters, touching story arcs, and a balance of humor, drama, and suspense. While some find the first game less engaging emotionally, the sequel in particular offers powerful character growth, heartfelt moments, and a resonant overarching plot that elevates the narrative. Overall, the series provides a compelling mix of emotional highs, clever storytelling, and memorable cases that resonate strongly with players.

    • “The storyline expertly balances humor, drama, and deduction, crafting an emotional landscape that encourages readers to connect not only with the central mystery but also with the intricate motivations driving its characters.”
    • “Everything felt so well put together whether it was the overarching plots or the relationships and parallels each character had that just really made me feel emotional.”

    • “The character development in this collection was one of my favourite things to see, especially for Edgeworth himself.”
    • “The second character is Edgeworth, he was a fan favorite in the original trilogy, but the character development that he gets in this collection, especially in the second one, truly cements him as the best character this franchise, and Capcom, has to offer.”
  • grinding

    6 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
17% positive mentions, 0% neutral mentions, 83% negative mentions

Users find the grinding in the games, especially in the first, to be repetitive and tedious due to multiple consecutive cross-examinations, which can make some case conclusions feel manufactured. While each case is engaging individually, the pacing at times resembles grinding through a procedural, causing mixed feelings about enjoyment versus just completing the story.

    • “In both games, but especially the first, cases always seem to end up with 4 or 5 cross-examinations in a row, with some expository dialogue in between each, making the respective conclusions to these cases feel more manufactured and tedious than they needed to be.”
    • “Some of the cross-examinations are also infuriatingly tedious, like the back to back string at the end of case 5, and similarly near the end of case 10.”
    • “I find myself grappling with whether I'm enjoying myself or if I'm simply completing some plot as if I'm grinding through a popular television show.”
  • optimization

    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
67% positive mentions, -34% neutral mentions, 67% negative mentions

The game's optimization is mixed, with notable performance issues such as frame drops and loading delays on platforms like the Nintendo Switch. Additionally, the heavy use of Denuvo DRM significantly impacts performance, leading to a subpar experience despite the game's extensive content.

    • “On some platforms, particularly the Nintendo Switch, there can be minor performance hiccups, such as brief loading delays or frame skips during busier scenes.”
    • “Tons of content – far exceeded its price-performance ratio.”

    • “I knew Denuvo was a performance hog, but holy hell this is low.”
