The story across the Ace Attorney series is characterized by a mix of compelling narratives and disjointed plotlines, with many players noting that cliffhanging elements often go unresolved. While some installments, particularly "Apollo Justice," are praised for their engaging character development and emotional depth, others, like "Spirit of Justice," face criticism for convoluted storytelling and repetitive trial mechanics. Overall, the series maintains a blend of entertaining characters and intriguing cases, though the execution can vary significantly between games.
“The cast of characters were memorable & the plot lines that played out had many of us on the edge of our seats.”
“Its compelling story, engaging gameplay, and unforgettable characters set a new standard for the genre.”
“I loved the 2nd trial of this game and the way the game tries to tie everything up towards the end is a cool way of telling the story.”
“All my problems of the previous games return here, but now the story and characters ended up frustrating me so much that I genuinely didn't feel like I was enjoying my time.”
“It doesn't feel like the story is written by humans but by guidelines on how to create a 'good' trial; as a result, there are almost no surprises and it feels like you already know exactly how to build the puzzle but have to wait for the game to ask you to place the puzzle piece it wants you to play.”
“But in Ace Attorney 5 and especially 6, there will be a lot of moments where you feel like the game doesn't respect you as a player; it doesn't trust you to make your own conclusions, it repeats information extremely often, gives you extremely guided information, and often feels like it doesn't understand what it wants to do with its story anymore.”

The music in the Ace Attorney series continues to receive high praise, with many reviewers highlighting its ability to enhance the narrative's emotional depth and complement gameplay. Notable soundtracks, particularly from "Apollo Justice" and "Spirit of Justice," are celebrated for their quality, with some tracks described as "god-tier" and capable of evoking strong emotional responses. While some critics feel that the newer arrangements lack the punch of earlier games, the overall consensus is that the music remains a standout feature, contributing significantly to the series' charm and appeal.
“The soundtrack deserves equal praise, with compositions that perfectly complement the highs and lows of the narrative, enhancing every moment of triumph, tension, and heartache.”
“Great stories, twists, and characters accompanied by a god-tier soundtrack.”
“The music made me cry (it was that good).”
“Don't get me started on the music starting in Dual Destinies, it's so flat and lacks the oomph all the other games had.”
“While it was frozen, the music would continue normally while any animations were frozen, i.e., Apollo wouldn't blink, as well as any text that was in the process of typing itself out on the screen would stop dead in its tracks until it finished and continued.”
“Examples of this are the really annoying musical witness for case 1 and the name puns getting so stupidly simplistic and blatant.”

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy review
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy brings the last three mainline Ace Attorney games to modern consoles, and they're just as good as ever.

No objections here! Apollo Justice Trilogy presents a tight case for replaying these superb courtroom adventures.

We genuinely can't believe how lucky we are that these games exist, let alone that they've been lovingly polished up for the Switch. This is some of the best writing you'll find on the console, and it's a steal for all three games plus extras. A couple of bumps here and there are to be expected with such a wealth of content (three games, DLC, and extras), but they barely leave a dent on the brilliance of this well-written and beautifully illustrated trilogy.
