    • “I really like the imagery, and I think the gameplay loop could be very satisfying.”
    • “You can definitely see the devs were trying to make something fun, and it might not have done the best job, there's still plenty of room to add new content that can help the gameplay experience.”
    • “It has a fun premise, fun enemies, goofy scenario, fun and goofy items, it has funny troll potential with the gift wrapping mechanic, it is a fun game.”
    • “Bad gameplay; the point of the game is not explained, so you're left there clueless.”
    • “The gameplay feels repetitive, the controls are clunky, the game is poorly optimized, the music doesn't fit, the menus are unbearable, and the graphics settings didn't save for me.”
    • “The gameplay gets really boring after a while; all you do is collect the right items to put in the cauldron and make sure the items are in the right order, all the while you avoid monsters that sometimes won't chase you because of their bad AI.”
  • graphics
    139 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game have received overwhelmingly negative feedback, with many users describing them as "terrible," "ugly," and reminiscent of outdated styles. Complaints include poor lighting, graphical bugs, and a lack of optimization, leading to performance issues even on capable machines. While some players appreciate the unique art style, the consensus is that significant improvements are needed to enhance the overall visual experience.

    • “I really like the art style and the premise.”
    • “Really enjoyed the graphics and general environment of the game!”
    • “The graphics are unique; I don't believe they have to be the best to make a good game.”
    • “Graphics are very bad, lethal company style influence is obvious here, but somehow this atrocious sight manages to lag on a decent machine.”
    • “The controls are bad, the graphics are shit, the gameplay loop dies after 3 attempts, the world generation is buggy, the objective isn't fun, the monsters are broken and not fun obstacles at all and the in-game voice chat is broken.”
    • “The game in its current state leaves much to be desired, the graphics are terrible, there are many bugs, and there's no way to play a multiplayer match because the game bugs out so much that you have to exit and re-enter the game just to attempt to join a match.”
  • stability
    130 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game is widely criticized for its severe stability issues, with numerous reports of bugs, glitches, and unresponsive controls that significantly detract from the overall experience. Players have noted that the game feels unpolished and unfinished, often leading to frustrating gameplay moments, such as soft locks and confusing mechanics. While some find humor in the chaos, the consensus is that the game is not worth its current price due to its unstable nature.

    • “This game is a buggy mess and barely tells you anything.”
    • “Unfortunately, as it currently stands, the game is very unpolished and features a number of horrible bugs and glitches as well as some asinine design decisions that ruin the experience extremely quickly.”
    • “99.99% of the time when I attempt to start the game it always crashes as I couldn't get on the title screen and it always freezes on the black screen, -10/10 worse than Overwatch 2.”
  • humor
    102 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The humor in this game is largely derived from its bugs and poor design, making it a source of laughter, especially when played with friends. While some players find the chaotic and goofy elements entertaining, many agree that the humor often stems from the game's shortcomings rather than intentional comedic design. Overall, it seems to be a hit-or-miss experience, with enjoyment heavily reliant on the company you keep while playing.

    • “Perfect funny little indie to play with friends.”
    • “The game is funny and enjoyable, playing with friends.”
    • “Of course it's buggy, but with the right people, it's a hilarious experience.”
    • “It's not funny, or entertaining, or scary, and it's certainly not worth the time it takes to think about it, at least not in its current state.”
    • “Not funny to play since when the monsters see you they don't stop chasing you, and the cauldron tutorial teaches from 0 to nothing and the options don't save.”
    • “Not funny, not deep, not graphically nor physically impressive, and certainly not scary.”
  • music
    38 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game receives mixed reviews, with many players praising the intro and menu music as standout elements, often describing them as "fire" or "bangers." However, the lack of an in-game soundtrack and various bugs detract from the overall experience, leading to frustration with the game's audio integration. While the music can provide some distraction from gameplay issues, it ultimately does not compensate for the game's shortcomings.

    • “Title music slaps.”
    • “The music and monsters are fire too!”
    • “Game has amazing menu music, but the game is a little goofy.”
    • “There's no soundtrack at all, even the most basic things are bugged.”
    • “The gameplay feels repetitive, the controls are clunky, the game is poorly optimized, the music doesn't fit, the menus are unbearable, and the graphics settings didn't save for me.”
    • “At least the music distracted me from how bad the gameplay was.”
  • optimization
    24 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's optimization has been widely criticized, with players reporting severe performance issues, including lag even on low settings and poor frame rates on high-end hardware. Numerous bugs related to player collision, hit boxes, and control responsiveness further contribute to the perception of the game as an unfinished and unoptimized product. Overall, the optimization is deemed inadequate, leading to a frustrating gameplay experience.

    • “Player collision, enemy hit boxes, shop fixes, server fixes, journal bug, damage bugs, item pickup adjustments, customization/colour unlocking bugs, control bugs, general optimization, are some to name and there's more I could list as well.”
    • “The graphics and performance on this game are tremendous.”
    • “Optimization (it literally lags on lowest settings despite me and my boys having god PCs).”
    • “Most likely untested, unfinished, buggy, unoptimized mess.”
    • “The gameplay feels repetitive, the controls are clunky, the game is poorly optimized, the music doesn't fit, the menus are unbearable, and the graphics settings didn't save for me.”
    • “Unoptimized as hell (I have a 4060 and I was getting 30 fps).”
  • monetization
    22 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The monetization aspect of the game has been overwhelmingly criticized as a blatant cash grab, with many reviewers expressing disappointment over the rushed development and high price relative to the quality. Players feel that the game prioritizes profit over quality, evidenced by the quick release of merchandise shortly after launch and a lack of polish in gameplay and design. Overall, the sentiment is that the game fails to deliver value, making it unworthy of players' time and money.

    • “Speaking of the price, which is way too much for what it is, the game was clearly made so that they could get a quick cash grab. It was made in 3 months, and they immediately had a plushy to sell, which is just shameful.”
    • “This is just a filthy cash grab. Not even 2 days after release and they're already shoveling merch down kids' throats.”
    • “If nothing anyone says is going to stop you from just making games to make more money, then take a little more time and spend a little more money making an actually good game that you care about. At this point, it's obvious that all your games are just cash grabs; you don't actually care about any of them.”
  • story
    19 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's story has received mixed to negative feedback, with many players noting a lack of engaging narrative and environmental storytelling. Some expected a more developed story akin to other titles in the genre but found it lacking, while others felt the gameplay overshadowed any potential narrative elements. Overall, the consensus suggests that the story is either minimal or poorly executed, failing to captivate players.

    • “This game's story is good.”
    • “Or at least have an introduction to the game itself and explain the story...”
    • “Until I got into the game, I thought this would be a story game, like BanBan, but with friends, so its clumsiness could be entertaining together.”
    • “This game has no story.”
    • “The environmental storytelling is nonexistent despite their attempts.”
    • “Looks bad, the gameplay doesn't make sense, and it has no story.”
  • grinding
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Players find the grinding aspect of the game to be tedious and frustrating, particularly when attempting to progress solo, as it often requires excessive time and effort to collect coins and purchase items. The repetitive nature of grinding detracts from the overall enjoyment, leading many to view it as a cheap cash-in on a popular trend.

    • “Soloing this game is extremely tedious and it's really hard to make any progress without other people.”
    • “The act of collecting coins is very tedious when it can take 15 tries to pick up a single one.”
    • “There are around 15 different items to buy from a shop, and they are all pretty much impossible to get without grinding money for at least 5 minutes.”
  • replayability
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's replayability is rated low, around 5/10, as the shift towards a multiplayer focus has not succeeded due to boring and buggy gameplay. Players find the experience lacking, with simplistic monster mechanics that detract from the potential for enjoyable replay sessions.

    • “Infinitely replayable (or almost).”
    • “The developers focused on making a multiplayer game that emphasizes replayability.”
    • “The replayability is impressive, offering new experiences with each playthrough.”
    • “The devs sacrificed what made Garten of BanBan funny in favor of trying to make a multiplayer game focused on replayability.”
    • “But that replayability just doesn't work if the gameplay is boring and buggy, with monsters that just walk at you and remove a little bit of health.”
  • atmosphere
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's atmosphere is praised for its cool and engaging qualities, enhanced by procedural generation of terrain and villages, which adds to the overall experience. While the game is described as buggy and needing further development, its goofy and humorous elements contribute positively to the atmosphere, making it enjoyable once players acclimate to the controls and objectives.

    • “It has a really cool atmosphere and the procedural generation of the terrain/village is a really cool feature!”
    • “Very good idea for a game, good atmosphere, funny dance, needs more 'time in the oven'.”
  • emotional
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The emotional response to the game is overwhelmingly negative, with players expressing frustration and disappointment, particularly due to the presence of an invincible enemy that leads to instant death. This experience has deterred players from engaging with the developer's future titles.
