The gameplay in Topspin 2k25 is highly praised for its excellent mechanics, requiring a mix of timing, strategy, and positioning, which contributes to a realistic tennis experience. While the controls are intuitive and the on-court action is well-animated, the game suffers from a lack of engaging modes and progression, leaving some players feeling that the depth of gameplay is not fully supported by the content available. Overall, it offers tense and exciting matches, particularly in its lengthy career mode, but could benefit from more variety and polish in other areas.
“It inspired us to dig deep into the game’s core mechanics and train our way up the ladder.”
“The core mechanics demand a blend of good timing, strategic planning, and clever positional play to add to the authenticity of the experience, with the game easily standing out as one of the more realistic tennis experiences I’ve seen in a video game.”

The game's graphics have been criticized for their subpar quality, with players resembling wax figures, which detracts from the overall experience. Additionally, the limited pro player pool and challenging difficulty settings further hinder accessibility and enjoyment.
“With less-than-desirable graphics, a lacking on-release pro player pool, and hard-to-tune difficulty settings which made picking up the game harder than it needed to be, the game is left with much to be desired.”
“The graphics could be better, with players looking like wax figures.”

Players find the grinding in MyCareer mode to be quite excessive, with some noting the presence of non-cosmetic microtransactions that can add to the grind. Additionally, a few minor bugs have been reported, but they seem to be secondary to the overall grind experience.
“MyCareer mode is very grindy, with some non-cosmetic microtransactions and a few minor bugs.”
“The grinding in this game feels excessive and detracts from the overall experience.”
“I find the repetitive tasks required for progression to be tedious and frustrating.”

TopSpin 2K25 Review
TopSpin 2K25 is a confident revival firmly worth the 13-year wait. Admittedly, it might not be for everyone, especially with its rather steep learning curve, but for us, that’s what we love about the game. It inspired us to dig deep into the game’s core mechanics and train our way up the ladder. We felt that competitive edge that made us want to master our playstyle and ultimately show off our MyPlayer, cosmetics and all. This is a sports game that can proudly stand alongside its 2K brethren, and one we’re thrilled to see back in action.

It’s wonderfully executed to make for a really fun experience, whilst the package is complemented by a decent selection of game modes that’ll keep both solo and multiplayer fans invested for a long, long time.
90%TopSpin 2K25 Review – Focus On the Tennis
On the court, TopSpin 2K25 is brilliant. It's realistic, satisfying, and feels great to play, especially as you get to grips with the timing needed for every shot type. It's just a shame that such good tennis gameplay is housed in such bland modes that have you grind for very little sense of progression.
