AO International Tennis
Despite giving the player an excess of control over shots themselves, the movement in order to set up those shots is almost completely absent. Add to this a list of unrecognisable names and you’ve got a tennis game that feels pretty darn hollow.

Gameplay reviews for the game are mixed, with some praising its character customization and immersive graphics, while others criticize the mechanics as clunky and frustrating, particularly in career mode. Many players find the gameplay to be inconsistent, with issues like timing and movement detracting from the overall experience, despite some acknowledging that it can be enjoyable once mastered. Overall, while there are elements of fun and potential, significant improvements are needed to elevate the gameplay to a more satisfying level.
“Awesome gameplay mechanic and realistic gameplay.”
“Community stadiums and characters along with many gameplay changes makes this the best tennis game on the market.”
“Gameplay is solid, once you get used to the timing, it gets more enjoyable.”
“While the game thrives on character customization, I found the gameplay a bit dull.”
“Game mechanics seem a little off; career mode feels like a drag, and training in career mode is among the most boring things I have ever encountered in a game.”
“The timing window is erratic and inconsistent, especially on higher difficulty levels. The light flashes on and off every split second, making it virtually impossible to time the ball consistently. This makes the gameplay on higher difficulty levels extremely frustrating.”

50%AO International Tennis Review
AO International Tennis went wide with its first service, and double faults at second attempt. Turgid, unrealistic gameplay is emphasised by the title’s shot targeting mechanic, which largely restricts you to the spot and relieves you of the freedom that you’d have on a real court. The few official player models are of a good quality and the customisation options are a welcome touch, but the PS4’s first tennis title is a disappointment – it wouldn’t even make the qualifiers let alone win a Grand Slam.
40%AO International Tennis Review - PS4
AO International Tennis does not have any competition in this current market when it comes to tennis games, but AO Tennis lacks both refinement and variety that a good sports game should have.
