The gameplay of this tennis title has received mixed reviews, with many players criticizing its unrealistic mechanics, lack of control, and frustrating AI, leading to a generally unsatisfying experience. “Smooth and immersive gameplay.”
“Frustrating for the first couple of hours of gameplay... hang in there, it gets a lot better and is fun to play.”
“Whist hard to get used to, I really like the new timing mechanism they introduced and I think it's the best direction for the gameplay.”
“Where to begin? This game is absolute garbage. The gameplay is unrealistic, the players' movements are terrible, and really, where is Novak? He is one of the big four; why isn't he in the game? If you want my advice, just play Top Spin 4 on PC. It's free and much better.”
“The gameplay is awful, and the graphics are terrible for a game developed in 2020.”
“Lack of control in a sports game, feeling helpless because of faulty core game mechanics, is what truly makes this game not recommended.”

“It is still clunky in some aspects and graphically unimpressive but the gameplay has gone from a 1/5 to 4/5.”
“Too many graphical glitches, inconsistencies across the board in terms of gameplay and the wider matchday details, copy-pasted player physiques and complete lack of personalized shots, a shoehorned mid-match card feature that only distracts - oh, and locking major tournaments and courts behind day one DLC are just some of the reasons Big Ant Studios double faults with this one.”

Tennis World Tour 2 Review
Tennis World Tour 2 captures the flow of real-world tennis well, but that comes with a steep timing-based learning curve. Overcome it, and you’ll be rewarded with a deep skill-based gameplay experience, that’s elevated by a strategic deck building accompaniment. There’s inconsistency to the presentation, with some awkward animations, physics, and art direction decisions – but the campaign is entertaining and online play will add longevity. As it stands, it’s the best tennis game currently available on the PS4, but there’s still room for further improvement here.

Tennis World Tour 2 is a complex sports sim that features some real nuances of playing tennis. Unfortunately, that results in convoluted controls with little instruction on how to use them. It’ll keep hard-core sports gamers busy for a while, but is not a very good option for casual tennis fans.

Tennis fans are so limited these days, and Tennis World Tour 2 does not deliver enough to consider it a great game. Too many graphical glitches, inconsistencies across the board in terms of gameplay and the wider matchday details, copy-pasted player physiques and complete lack of personalised shots, a shoehorned mid-match card feature that only distracts - oh, and locking major tournaments and courts behind day one DLC are just some of the reasons Big Ant Studios double faults with this one. With more time, care, and no doubt a bigger budget, something decent could arise, because the makings are there, but patches might not be enough, and focus now might be better spent on a hopeful third game.
