The gameplay has been widely criticized for its clunky mechanics, slow pace, and frustrating controls, making it difficult for players to enjoy the experience. While some users noted improvements in graphics and AI, many felt that the overall gameplay remains unrefined and repetitive, with issues such as automated player actions and unrealistic physics. Despite a few positive remarks about the variety of game modes and venues, the consensus is that the gameplay is a significant drawback, overshadowing any potential enjoyment.
“On a positive note, the game did feature a decent selection of tennis venues and surfaces, allowing for some variety in gameplay.”
“Players' movement and matches look real, gameplay is difficult, but practice and 'playing well' really pays off; graphics – though could be improved – are good enough to entertain.”
“The gameplay mechanics are really good with all those skill cards system in combination with stamina, rackets, and playstyle.”
“The gameplay is slow and extremely robotic; the players have that awful slide to adjust to the ball.”
“The clunky gameplay, lackluster graphics, underdeveloped career mode, and technical issues make it difficult to recommend this title to both tennis enthusiasts and casual gamers alike.”
“When playing this game, you will see all of the flaws in the scripting gameplay, with the player not hitting the ball with topspin even though you pressed the topspin button and sometimes just ignoring you altogether and refusing to hit the ball as it flies past their face.”

On paper, Tennis World Tour was supposed to give us a spiritual successor to Top Spin Tennis. Unfortunately what we've ended up with is something that's far from perfect and whilst some tennis fans may still pick it up they should do so knowing that they're in for a frustrating ride. It's likely we'll never know why things ended up as they did here but without some serious post-release patching it's a hard game to recommend.
