“The main story plot can be described as 'f*ked around, found out, didn't want to accept consequences, f*ed around and found out even more, finally accepts the punishment, gg' - the protagonist evokes no empathy whatsoever.”

The humor in the game is noted for its variety and cleverness, blending imaginative scenarios with literary callbacks and the "rule of 3" to create comedic moments, particularly through the protagonist's misadventures. While many find the dialogues engaging and funny, some feel that the humor occasionally undermines the sincerity of certain scenes. Overall, the game is described as a surreal and well-written adventure that successfully balances humor with deeper themes.
“It's also pretty varied between the Dostoevsky-esque first-person scenes and all the various books you explore, which are imaginative, fun, and sometimes pretty funny.”
“Upon entering a book, it seems as if Etienne is subject to something like literary callbacks and the 'rule of threes': at the very beginning of his first job, Etienne injures his knee, and further complications and misfortunes surrounding that injury befall him to humorous effect.”
“It's a surreal, hilarious, and very well-written adventure game.”

The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales – Plenty Of Tricks In The Book
The Bookwalker truly made me feel like the driving force of a narrative, with an engaging central relationship and a mystery that kept me turning to the last page.
80%The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales [PC] | REVIEW
The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales offers some enthralling storytelling and creative gameplay that ensures its book-trekking adventure is a memorable one. Sure, its puzzles aren’t particularly challenging and some of the choices you make can feel inconsequential to the overarching plot, but it does more than enough to ensure its adventure remains captivating as you play through each little tale and twist them to suit your needs.
80%The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales Review (PS5)
The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales relies on an intriguing concept, and for the most part is quite enjoyable. The adventure sequences are immersive and motivate you to push forward and discover more. The game becomes even more remarkable if we take into account that it has been developed by a team of four people. However, I believe that instead of investing effort in building the combat system, the studio’s time could have been better used to polish the story. Nevertheless, The Boolkwaker: Thief of Tales is a solid adventure that will most certainly keep you engaged from start to finish. Review key was provided by the publisher.
