    32 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story has received mixed reviews, with some praising its engaging narrative and character development, particularly the political intrigue and moral complexity that offers varied outcomes and replayability. However, others criticize it for feeling disjointed and suffering from a perceived "woke agenda," as well as issues with character sprites and development inconsistencies. Overall, while the main storyline and side quests provide depth, there are notable areas for improvement in character portrayal and quest tracking.

    • “While not as grand as the original Loren, it was still a really good story.”
    • “The main storyline of this game is really fun and interesting; there's a lot of grey morality and situations where you really can go either way.”
    • “Ultimately, it still managed to get me invested in its rich characters and excellent story; I was very happy to return to the setting of Aravorn after all this time.”
    • “The story itself was...okay.”
    • “This felt immediately obvious playing as an Elenor who was continuing a romance with Rei; the way Elenor acted with him, to others, and in the story felt like it was written by varying writers.”
    • “And ultimately, as she was my vehicle during this whole story, I didn't feel like she was getting the kind of character development she deserved.”
  • gameplay
    5 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay in this game is an enhanced version of its predecessor, featuring engaging turn-based mechanics and a streamlined elemental system. The introduction of a crafting mechanic at the camp allows players to progressively strengthen their gear, although the difficulty tends to decrease as players become more familiar with the game.

    • “So glad that the gameplay and exploration of this game is essentially an upgraded version of how it was in Loren.”
    • “The turn-based gameplay is just as interesting as it was in Loren, with the exception of all the elemental weaknesses condensed into one element.”
    • “The new crafting mechanic done at the camp is really useful and allows you to progressively get stronger with gear obtained from battles or shops.”
    • “Like many RPGs, this game starts out more difficult and then becomes a bit too easy as you move on and understand the mechanics more.”
  • graphics
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics in "Toa: An Elven Marriage" have received praise for their improved visuals and upgraded user interface, while maintaining the beloved art style of the original "Loren" series. The inclusion of familiar characters in new outfits enhances the overall aesthetic, and the new art elements blend seamlessly with the established designs, creating a cohesive visual experience. Overall, the game successfully balances nostalgia with fresh artistic updates.

    • “Really awesome to see some of the old cast rocking new outfits and designs in their improved art style too!”
    • “The most beloved characters of Loren: Loren, Draco, Chambara, Dora, and Ramas are all gone, leaving us with what I consider the B characters of Myrth, Rei, and the wizard, who seems to have a very different art style from the other characters.”
    • “Compared to Loren, Toa: An Elven Marriage has improved visuals, upgraded UI, a slightly changed RPG ruleset, but most importantly, the writing has improved considerably since then.”
  • emotional
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The emotional aspect of the game is highlighted by its wholesome and engaging character relationships, particularly the deep and believable portrayal of elven marriage, which contrasts with the often shallow depictions found in other games. Players appreciate the heartfelt writing and the balance of humor, making the characters relatable and their journeys touching.

    • “This one did not disappoint. I went with Lydia on my first playthrough, and it was a really wholesome and interesting route to go through, as well as seeing how Eleanor/Saren build up towards it. The 'lock-in' scene for her and the last couple of unique scenes leading up to the final 'love scene' were truly memorable.”
    • “Compared to other games, which usually depict relationships rather shallowly, elven marriage manages to present a long-lasting partnership in a believable and heartwarming way.”
    • “Character-wise, Gruff is heartfelt and provides a little bit of comedic relief, but they are written really sweetly.”

Character development in the game starts off slow, with some initial writing feeling stilted, but improves as the story progresses, revealing more depth and moments of growth. However, some players feel that certain characters, particularly the protagonist, do not receive the level of development they deserve throughout the narrative.

    • “It took me a little while to get back into the characters; some areas of the writing initially felt a bit stilted, but as the game progressed, I saw more and more moments of character development and story.”
