- Ground Shatter
With an intriguing core concept and solid presentation, SkyScrappers isn't an especially bad game – just a ludicrously overpriced one. If, by chance, you can afford to snag a copy, then you're in for a fun little tussle – just don't expect it to be one that'll keep on giving.
SkyScrappers is a classic arcade-style, vertically scrolling, competitive platform-fighting game. Select from a diverse range of extreme sportspeople, to fight and race your way to the top of a falling skyscraper… as it is being demolished. Play with up to four players in classic couch-multiplayer, take on the story-driven single-player campaigns, or set up a skirmish against AI bots.

The gameplay is criticized for its lack of balance between fast-paced platforming and simplistic button-mashing combat, leading to a disjointed experience. While the vertical movement mechanics show potential, they are undermined by poor AI behavior and a lack of depth in combat options. Overall, the game offers a fun, albeit shallow, experience suitable for casual play with friends.
“The idea that seems to be poorly expressed from the get-go is some combat-centric core gameplay... but there's also the vertical movement element.”
“Overall, don't get it expecting tonnes of hours of gameplay, but it's still a fun and simple game to play a few rounds of whenever your friends come over!”
“The gameplay seems torn between fast-paced platforming and button-mashing combat.”
“The poor implementation of core mechanics indicates a lack of clear game design intent.”
“The combat mechanics really don't have enough depth to them mainly because you only have 2 buttons that do something.”

The game's story is criticized for its lack of complexity and depth, with reviewers noting that it feels like a half-hearted attempt at storytelling typical of visual novels. While there are multiple character storylines, they fail to engage players or make them care about the characters and their interactions, leaving the narrative feeling underwhelming, especially for a fighting game.
“I know fighting games aren't really played for their storyline, but I just felt this game could have done a bit better on this.”
“There is zero attempt at complex storytelling, but the graphical impression of a visual novel reflects a half-hearted storytelling effort.”
“I played through the storylines of the four characters, and for the most part, the game doesn't do a good job making the characters interesting or making you care about their interactions before combat.”
“I know fighting games aren't really played for their storyline, but I just felt this game could have done a bit better in this aspect.”
