Rise of the Ronin was the near-perfect samurai/ronin open-world RPG that I have been starving for, and offers players a lot of choice in their playstyle.
"Rise of the Ronin" is an action-packed game set in 1863 Japan, where a lone warrior must navigate through turmoil and make critical decisions that will shape the country's fate. With deep and accessible combat, players can engage in close-quarters combat or fight from a distance using authentic period weaponry. The story is dynamic, offering multiple choices and alliances that lead to different outcomes.
Reviews

- The character customization is extensive, allowing players to create unique warriors and develop relationships with NPCs that enhance the gameplay experience.
- The game features a rich historical setting with a compelling narrative that encourages exploration and offers numerous side quests and activities.
- The graphics are dated and do not meet the standards expected from a current-gen title, leading to a less immersive visual experience.
- Many side quests and missions feel repetitive and lack meaningful content, contributing to a sense of open-world fatigue.
- The narrative can be convoluted and lacks impact, with choices that often feel superficial and do not significantly alter the game's progression.

“Incredible graphics, stunning gameplay, 100+ hours of fun activities to do, gorgeous male and female characters you can create in this masterpiece samurai world, interesting story and lovable characters you can build relationships with, world class music and so on… Rise of the Ronin is the love letter from Sony and Team Ninja to all gaming fans worldwide.”
“Beautiful graphics.”
“Despite the graphics being more in line with PS3/PS4 generation games, there are some fun & cool mechanics, but ultimately the game is rather boring & repetitive, making it difficult to forgive the horribly dated graphics.”
“Last, the graphics... way to go, you guys literally had 8 years to move this onto another engine, but no, you chose to produce it knowing that the engine in your prior games has a lot of issues with LOD and asset issues.”
“The graphics are so bad it's not playable; I thought I turned my PS2 on with this game.”

Gameplay in both "Ghost of Tsushima" and "Rise of the Ronin" is characterized by engaging combat mechanics and immersive worlds, with players enjoying the blend of stealth and action. However, some reviews highlight that the gameplay can become repetitive over time, particularly in "Rise of the Ronin," where dated graphics and a lack of polish detract from the overall experience. Despite these criticisms, many players appreciate the depth of combat systems and the variety of activities available, making for a compelling, if sometimes flawed, gameplay experience.

Rise Of The Rōnin Review
Rise of the Rōnin's open world is vast and content-rich, but it's a case of quantity over quality that's only partially rescued by the unambitious but technically adequate combat.
