Rain on Your Parade

Rain on your Parade is an absolute delight, with its simple yet creative rain-pouring antics and brilliant level design making for a memorable (and undoubtedly unique) experience. I loved completing all of its levels and its many absurd objectives, whilst the little things such as customising Cloudy’s appearance just added to the fun. It’d be easy to dismiss Rain on your Parade as another gimmick-fuelled game, but it’s so much more than that; it’s a whimsical and wonderful romp that’ll delight both youngsters and adults alike.

While some find parts of the writing or voice acting a bit hit-or-miss, overall the humor is a standout feature that enhances the game's relaxing and playful atmosphere.

    • “The parody levels are laugh-out-loud funny, especially the Office-style sabotage, Metal Gear Solid stealth mission, Parks and Rec pigeon chaos, and even Doom 3D shooter.”
    • “Although it may not offer long-term depth or intense challenge, it delivers exactly what it promises: a humorous, inventive adventure starring a mischievous little cloud who just wants to make the world a little soggier.”
    • “From the differing levels and well-executed references, to the charming creatures, to the sometimes meta but always clever cosmetics, Cloudy's world is filled to the brim and flowing over with charming features and moments that will keep you laughing for hours.”

The gameplay is praised for its creativity, variety, and constant introduction of new mechanics and abilities that keep the experience fresh and engaging. It skillfully blends whimsy, humor, and references to other games, offering varied tasks across unique, imaginative levels that rarely feel repetitive. While simple in concept, the game’s diverse gameplay styles and playful tone make it fun and accessible, though some find it relatively light and short in depth.

    • “Every stage has a gimmick, a story, a gameplay mechanic (or a creative way to apply pre-existing gameplay mechanics), a joke, a concept.”
    • “I'm impressed how they've used a handful of basic game mechanics to create rather diverse gameplay experiences, mixing up level elements and goals.”
    • “Each level introduces a fresh gameplay twist or challenge, ensuring the experience rarely feels repetitive.”
    • “I had high hopes after watching gameplay, and it fit the prompt "play a game where the purpose is to cause havoc." But honestly, watching a YouTube playthrough is enough to see everything it has to offer.”
    • “And maybe that's not fair - but the problem is that while the cute graphics 'grabbed' me to pay money for the game, the actual gameplay had no grab at all.”
    • “The gameplay pretty much burns out its main gimmicks in a handful of levels.”
  • story

    54 mentions Positive Neutral Negative
22% positive mentions, 72% neutral mentions, 6% negative mentions

The story of the game is presented as a charming and humorous bedtime tale told by a grandfather to his grandchild, featuring a mischievous cloud causing playful chaos while trying to save a rain-averse antagonist. Though simple and lighthearted, the story effectively serves as a fun framework for diverse, joke-filled gameplay levels filled with creative parodies and puzzles. Its brevity and simplicity are noted, but the cute writing, clever humor, and whimsical style make it an enjoyable and endearing experience.

    • “The game is set up as a bedtime story of a mischievous cardboard cloud causing havoc and doing what it wants while also trying to save the rain city that is Seattle from a man child who hates getting wet (possibly in every sense of the word and probably stinks like hell).”
    • “The story plays out in a cute way, with it being told through a child experiencing a bedtime story from their grandpa, getting to enjoy the occasional interactions between the family members as the story progresses.”
    • “Every stage has a gimmick, a story, a gameplay mechanic (or a creative way to apply pre-existing gameplay mechanics), a joke, a concept.”
    • “You can tell from the ridiculous and possibly dumb story that the narrator is making it up as he goes, and that's the best kind of improvising, especially if it's ridiculous, dumb and makes zero sense.”
    • “The story is composed of puns and gamer humor that range from meh to mildly entertaining.”
    • “The story is very bare-bones, but it isn't really the focus of the game anyway.”
  • graphics

The game features a charming, unique art style that resembles handcrafted dioramas with cardboard, yarn, and paper textures, evoking a cozy and quirky aesthetic. Its cute, cartoonish graphics are praised for their warmth, humor, and creativity, effectively complementing the playful, mischievous gameplay. While visually delightful and filled with fun references, some note a lack of visual customization and occasional repetitiveness, but overall, the graphics are a standout aspect that enhances the game's appeal.

    • “Everything is designed to look handcrafted, like a child’s diorama brought to life: cardboard buildings, painted paper characters, felt-tip marker outlines, and cut-out scenery that gives each level a cozy yet quirky aesthetic.”
    • “The artstyle is so unique and cute, with little hand drawn pictures animated on top of cardboard textures, with little strings attached to your cloud, yarn people, it is the absolute cutest.”
    • “The vibrant art style is jolly and unique, suiting the game perfectly.”
    • “Speaking of, that's one of the game's drawbacks, you have no option to change any visuals. I think it's coded in a way that it must have bloom/blurring.”
    • “Wildly uneven art style.”
    • “And maybe that's not fair - but the problem is that while the cute graphics grabbed me to pay money for the game, the actual gameplay had no grab at all.”
  • music

The music in the game is generally praised for being upbeat, catchy, and fitting the lighthearted, whimsical atmosphere, often enhancing the fun and quirky vibe. However, some find it repetitive, occasionally generic, or forgettable, while others appreciate its charm and memorable melodies. Overall, the soundtrack contributes positively to the experience, balancing humor, relaxation, and playfulness.

    • “The music and sound effects reinforce the lighthearted atmosphere, offering upbeat tunes and silly audio cues that make the game feel welcoming even as you’re causing mass panic.”
    • “The soundtrack is worth a mention too - it's so happy and catchy, and somehow manages to sound like raindrops at the same time.”
    • “The soundtrack is really peppy, the sound effects are on point and we enjoyed our 5 hour long trip with cloudy & friends.”
    • “The music is fine, but forgettable.”
    • “I feel that the music was a bit generic and there is sometimes a fair bit of dialogue that likely whomever is playing does not care about. The argument might be made that 'kids are meant to follow the story,' but the problem is there is a fair bit of humor that will be lost on kids at that age, so it will just seem like nonsense sometimes.”
    • “Also, the music that exists in the game is fine, but it gets a little repetitive.”
