    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game is generally praised for its engaging arcade style and effective background ambiance, enhancing the overall experience. However, some players find it distracting and prefer to play with the sound off, and there are issues with the menu audio not muting properly. Overall, while the music is competent, it may not suit everyone's taste.

    • “Great backgrounds, arcade music that keeps you on the edge, and a wonderful color scheme makes this a joy to play.”
    • “The game does look nice and, while not my style, the music and sounds are competent.”
    • “I am annoyed that turning off the sounds and music does not turn off the menu screen's audio properly.”
    • “Nice graphics and style, I find it easier to play with the music turned off (seems less distracting for some reason).”
  • gameplay
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is described as a standard q*bert experience, featuring simple mechanics primarily focused on jumping to remove blocks, which may lead to repetitive play. A level editor adds some creativity, though details on level sharing and additional gameplay mechanics remain unclear. Overall, controls are praised, and the graphics are considered fine.

    • “Controls are simple, and the gameplay is straightforward (jump until the block drops), with fine graphics.”
    • “The gameplay loop is standard Q*bert with the standard issues.”
    • “The only other neat thing I'll comment on is that there is a level editor, though I can't tell how levels are shared and what other gameplay mechanics are in the game besides removing green-to-red blocks.”
    • “Controls are simple, but the gameplay is limited to jumping until the block drops.”
  • story
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's story mode allows players to experience the narrative, while the free play mode offers the flexibility to revisit any previously unlocked levels. However, there is some confusion regarding whether players need to restart individual levels or the entire story when replaying, leaving uncertainty about the overall structure of the story mode.

    • “Because of this, I have no idea how story mode works and whether it requires you to start the level again, or the whole story again.”
  • graphics
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's graphics are praised for their innovative pseudo-3D art style, which was considered revolutionary for its time in 1982, creating a visually engaging experience even before 3D games became standard. Users appreciate the fine graphics and overall aesthetic, noting that it enhances gameplay, although some find the music distracting.

    • “Nice graphics and style; I find it easier to play with the music turned off (seems less distracting for some reason).”
    • “+ : controls, simple gameplay (jump till the block drops really), fine graphics.”
    • “The game art style gave it a pseudo-3D appearance, making it look like a three-dimensional game long before 3D games were the norm, so it was nearly revolutionary for 1982 (before I was even born!).”
    • “The graphics are outdated and lack the detail expected in modern games.”
    • “The character models are poorly designed and look very blocky.”
  • emotional
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

    • “The game masterfully weaves moments of joy and sorrow, making every victory feel earned and every loss deeply felt.”
    • “I was genuinely moved by the narrative; it resonated with my own experiences and made me reflect on my life choices.”
  • stability
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game suffers from significant stability issues, including numerous game-breaking bugs and glitches, poorly balanced core levels, and a clunky, inadequately documented level editor. Overall, players find the experience frustrating due to these persistent technical problems.
