    20 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay of the game has received mixed reviews, with some praising the building mechanics as among the best in survival games, while others criticize the numerous bugs, clunky vehicle interactions, and poorly balanced mechanics. Players have noted issues such as lag, non-intuitive gameplay, and a lack of core features, but express hope for improvements as the developers continue to update the game. Overall, while there are promising elements, significant polish and bug fixes are needed for a more enjoyable experience.

    • “They managed to make the building mechanics really easy to use, one of the best of all the survival games, to be honest.”
    • “The graphics are great and the gameplay is awesome.”
    • “The combat mechanics feel good and look good.”
    • “Lacking most gameplay features advertised.”
    • “It's like the mechanics were designed without logic in mind.”
    • “Gameplay is clunky; using vehicles just means you'll move slower because you get stuck on everything, even the smallest of shrubs.”
  • stability
    20 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's stability is widely criticized, with users reporting numerous bugs, glitches, and server issues that hinder gameplay. Many describe it as a typical early access title, plagued by problems such as freezing, buggy NPCs, and unreliable networking. While some players acknowledge the potential and appreciate the developers' efforts to address these issues, the overall consensus is that the game is not yet ready for a full release.

    • “It's hard to tell whether anything is intended to work the way it does, if it's just a placeholder, if it's buggy or by design...”
    • “Not ready, been trying to play for a while but the game freezes after a while, shame really game is so good.”
    • “Server crashes and rollbacks are the norm and glitches that trap players for short and long periods of time are seen.”
  • optimization
    12 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's optimization is severely lacking, with players reporting consistently low frame rates, frequent stuttering, and numerous bugs affecting gameplay, such as memory leaks and rendering issues. While some improvements have been noted, the overall performance remains unstable, leading to a frustrating experience that requires significant optimization efforts. Despite these challenges, many players still find enjoyment in the game, indicating potential for future enhancements.

    • “It's early, there are bugs, and performance isn't always top notch, but there's a lot of fun to be had.”
    • “Still needs a lot of optimization, early leveling tweaking, and random bug smashing.”
    • “I've been a backer for a while, and bugs/optimization is expected to be an issue on the first day of launch, but this game has been consistently fun for me, even playing alone, for a long while.”
    • “There are performance issues as well since frame rates are unable to push much past 30 fps even at the lowest settings.”
    • “Performance is absolutely dire; so many things are completely broken and little is explained.”
    • “Bugs with doors, dropping through terrain, rubber banding enemies, fake water, and building issues have persisted since the earliest builds I've seen. While general performance has improved, the servers have become so unstable that it's now a gamble whether anything you do will stick.”
  • graphics
    9 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game receive mixed reviews, with some players praising the high-quality visuals and impressive lighting effects, while others report issues such as oversaturation and lighting glitches that detract from the experience. Additionally, there are concerns about the game's performance on various settings, with some users unable to run it smoothly even on lower quality. Overall, while the graphics can be stunning, technical problems and inconsistencies have led to a divided opinion among players.

    • “The graphics are too good.”
    • “Great graphics, monsters, and a nice tech research system.”
    • “The graphics are great and the gameplay is awesome.”
    • “The game will not run on even the lowest quality settings, and my PC should be able to handle anything in this game at the maximum graphics settings.”
    • “The graphics settings don't work - only view distance, which unfortunately allows you to see through a player's walls and see where all their loot is in the base.”
    • “Somehow the graphics have gotten worse in the last few patches, with massive oversaturation and weird lighting. These issues are inescapable as light punches straight through solid walls and, comically, sometimes even the mountains at dawn and dusk.”
  • grinding
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Reviews indicate that the grinding mechanics in the game are a significant point of contention, with many players finding the crafting and research processes excessively tedious and frustrating. While some note that the grind can be fast-tracked to reach endgame content, the overall sentiment leans towards the experience being overly grindy, with concerns about losing progress after extensive play.

    • “Meanwhile, gunplay is awful, weapons are poorly balanced, jobs remain broken, and grinding for research – the currency necessary to unlock new crafting items – is an absolute slog.”
    • “The game is extremely grindy, so losing hard-earned progress can be frustrating.”
    • “Crafting is tedious, grindy, and minerals are scarce.”
  • story
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story aspect of the game is currently underwhelming, with promised game modes and storylines yet to be implemented, leading to a lack of engaging content. Players express frustration over numerous bugs and performance issues that detract from the experience, making the gameplay feel repetitive and tedious. While there are hints of potential with future updates and faction missions, the current state leaves much to be desired.

    • “There's more to come too with more mobs, more vehicles to research, an AI faction that will attack your base and missions from the faction you choose.”
    • “Promised game modes and storylines are missing.”
    • “It has lots of bugs and render problems like popping and a lot of frame drops, which can be very annoying and lead to crashes. There are a lot of missing animations, like swimming, where the water looks like thin air. I know it's early access, but they have delayed this since mid-summer last year, and it still looks and runs poorly. The great ideas behind it are overshadowed by these issues, and I'm hugely disappointed. Other frustrating aspects include the servers taking longer to update than the game itself, so if you update the game, 9 times out of 10, you won't be able to get back in for a couple of hours. At the moment, all you can do is hit pigs and the odd rock if it spawns, which gets very boring very quickly. Quests don't work, so leveling up will take a lifetime. On the plus side, the developers seem to be working on updates and keeping us informed about fixes and bugs, but I wouldn't buy this game yet; maybe next year, but not now.”
  • music
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game's music is largely absent, featuring minimal background music and ambient sounds, primarily relying on sound effects from player actions. While there are occasional musical elements, they are often too quiet or sparse to make a significant impact on the overall experience.

    • “There is no background music or ambient sound, just the sound effects of player actions like hitting something with a pickaxe.”
    • “The lack of music makes the game feel empty and unengaging.”
    • “Without any musical elements, the atmosphere feels flat and uninspired.”
  • monetization
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The monetization strategy of the game has been criticized as a cash grab, leading to negative community perception and ultimately contributing to its downfall shortly after launch. Many users feel that poor management and lack of promotion hindered its potential, resulting in insufficient funding for ongoing development.

    • “This game could have been amazing; however, it died just after launch due to horrible management from the devs. In my opinion, this was a quick cash grab in which they never intended to finish.”
    • “This game had huge potential, but they didn't promote it enough, and people kept giving it a bad name, saying it was a cash grab, which led to the game's downfall when the devs couldn't keep funding due to a bad community giving the game and devs hate for no reason.”
  • replayability
    1 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Reviewers express disappointment in the replayability of certain early access games on Steam, suggesting that the current state of these games does not justify their price, indicating a lack of value and engagement for repeated playthroughs.
