Many reviews highlight the combination of cute graphics and a fantastic soundtrack, elevating the game's aesthetic appeal.
“The graphics are sublime, the game runs super-smoothly on most recent PCs, and the game system assures you think your tactics carefully if you want to score high and unlock stuff.”
“Also lots of bullet dodging action, and awesome retro graphics and music to top it off.”
“Yo guys check it, this game is a bullet hell which means it's frustratingly fun, absurdly difficult, and has oddly cute old school anime graphics.”
“Once you get past the clunky-looking graphics, a very fine-tuned game is behind it.”
“The visuals are less detailed and have outlines that are better for separating the background from the foreground.”

The gameplay in Gundemonium is challenging yet fair, featuring clever mechanics such as the choice between shooting and flying, and the introduction of magic points for unique bomb usage. While it offers a satisfying experience with engaging visuals and a fantastic soundtrack, it may not be ideal for newcomers to the bullet hell genre due to its complexity. Overall, it is a fun and rewarding experience for players familiar with the genre.
“Gundemonium is a shmup with good graphics and good gameplay. My favorite aspect of the game is that pressing the fire button makes you fly slowly, so sometimes you need to choose between shooting or flying. Very clever mechanic right there. This shmup also introduces MP; enemies drop magic points for you to make bombs that don't destroy enemy projectiles, like the classic bomb does. The classic bomb from other shmups is also available in this game.”
“Great soundtrack, fun gameplay, overall quite satisfying.”
“The first in the Gundemonium series, a very fun but really hard bullet hell genre game, mainly story-based with Touhou, lots of characters to choose from, and pretty good gameplay.”
“To be honest, I wouldn't recommend it as a starting point for someone to get into the genre, seeing as there are far more mechanics present than most bullet hell games.”
“Gameplay is difficult, but not unfair.”
“The most unique thing in this game is the phase level mechanic.”

The story in the game is criticized for being poorly conveyed, with minimal cutscenes that can even be disabled, indicating a lack of emphasis on narrative. While the gameplay is engaging and features a variety of characters, the storytelling aspect seems to fall short, leaving players wanting more depth and coherence in the plot.
“And 2 agents from the Rosenkreuz Foundation are sent on a suicide mission to combat them.”
“It's probably one of my favorite game soundtracks, and I'm not exaggerating; I rank this up there with Cave Story, Mega Man X, BlazBlue (the collective series), all of those amazing soundtracks.”
“It's a little hard for me to comment on this one, honestly; the story isn't really well told throughout the game.”
“To give an example of how important the story is, there's an option to disable the pre-level 'cutscenes', which are only one screen with text and some pictures anyway.”
“The first in the Gundemonium series, a very fun but really hard bullet hell genre game, mainly story-based with Touhou, lots of characters to choose from and pretty good gameplay.”

“Grinding through the same level 70+ times to pass is tedious, even with a pleasant aesthetic and gorgeous soundtrack.”
“The repetitive nature of grinding makes the experience feel more like a chore than a game, despite the beautiful visuals and music.”
“While the game is visually appealing and has a great soundtrack, the excessive grinding can become frustrating and monotonous.”
