  • It features procedurally generated levels, providing high replayability and unique gameplay experiences each time.
  • The graphics and sound design are decent for a free game, with enjoyable music and vibrant visuals.
  • The game suffers from a lack of originality and fresh ideas, feeling repetitive and derivative of other titles in the genre.
  • Gameplay mechanics can be janky, with issues in movement and level design that detract from the overall experience.
  • There is minimal customization and control options, which can lead to frustration, especially in VR mode.
  • graphics
    15 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The graphics of the game receive mixed reviews, with some players appreciating the unique, cartoonish aesthetic and pastel colors, while others criticize the overall quality as lacking polish and customization options. Many note that the performance is surprisingly poor given the basic graphical style, and the limited graphics settings in the options menu detract from the experience. Overall, while the visuals have their charm, they fall short of modern standards and leave players wanting more.

    • “I like how it randomizes the map layout, world aesthetics, and which items you collect as you progress through each play-through.”
    • “Graphically, the game is unique to say.”
    • “Cute graphics, if you like pastels, and the occasional puzzle.”
    • “The game itself works well enough, but is very lacking on graphics tweaks and customization; all you can change is the resolution, which really isn't going to cut it for a modern PC game and looks unfavorably on the game engine this seems to be intended to promote.”
    • “The performance is surprisingly poor for something with such basic graphics.”
    • “Graphics are kind of ugly.”
  • gameplay
    14 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is characterized by a metroidvania FPS style, drawing inspiration from Metroid Prime, with a focus on mechanics involving upgrades and exploration. While some players appreciate the unique VR experience and replayability through customization, others criticize the flawed mechanics and lack of charm in level design, leading to mixed enjoyment levels. Overall, it offers interesting puzzles and varied level generation, but may not appeal to everyone.

    • “The metroid-style gameplay and finding items, while facing challenges, are the prime areas of the gameplay.”
    • “Has interesting and varied level generation, along with some enjoyably simple gameplay and goofy looking enemies.”
    • “It is a metroidvania FPS akin to Metroid Prime (its direct source of inspiration) mechanically, but lacking in all the charm, cohesive area and level design, and everything else.”
    • “I am not fighting the enemies; I'm fighting against the game mechanics, physics, and how flawed they are.”
    • “If you want to play a FPS metroidvania exclusively for the mechanics of getting upgrades/unlocks that improve your ability to fight and navigate, and unlock new rooms and areas, then go ahead and try this out.”
  • music
    12 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game is generally described as pleasant and enjoyable, though some users note a lack of variety and repetitive looping that can detract from the experience. While the soundtrack is considered acceptable for a free game, it may become monotonous due to its limited selection and occasional looping issues. Overall, the music contributes positively to the game's atmosphere, but improvements in variety and looping consistency are desired.

    • “Enjoyable music.”
    • “The music is alright as well, though it can get a little repetitive, but there is an options menu with audio sliders to let you change those.”
    • “Great music, good aesthetics, simple enough controls, and it's free.”
    • “Not much music variety to make zones even more distinct.”
    • “The background music is okay, but it's a short loop; I can mute it by setting the music volume to zero.”
    • “The music doesn't loop right; it stops and restarts after some silence, constantly reminding me that there is only this one cute little track.”
  • replayability
    8 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game offers significant replayability due to its procedurally generated maps, ensuring that each playthrough feels unique and fresh. Players appreciate the infinite replay value, likening it to a free Metroid experience, although some note that the design quality may not be top-notch. Customization options further enhance the replayability, allowing for varied gameplay experiences.

    • “Lots of replay value and each map feels unique.”
    • “It's free and infinitely randomly-generated replayability.”
    • “Fps Infinite is a procedurally generated 'metroidvania' that gives you almost endless amounts of replay value.”
    • “Good for the milestone it accomplishes (infinite, replayable Metroid Prime), but bad for the enemies being 'cute'.”
    • “Because the environment and transitions are randomly generated, there is replayability in that the order of the stages/transitions and the power-ups you acquire can create some challenge.”
    • “Gameplay customizing options add replayability.”
  • optimization
    4 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Overall, the game's optimization is mixed; while it runs smoothly on Windows 11 and feels well-optimized, some users report poor performance despite basic graphics and experience stuttering issues, even at a stable 60 fps.

    • “However, it runs smoothly on Windows 11.”
    • “It feels well optimized.”
    • “The performance is surprisingly poor for something with such basic graphics.”
    • “There seems to be some stuttering issues for me, which is odd because it runs at a full 60 fps when it isn't stuttering.”
  • stability
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

Users report that the game generally performs well, but many experience freezing issues when using the alt+tab function, which can disrupt gameplay and affect overall stability.

    • “Great game, but every time I alt+tab, it freezes my computer.”
    • “The game crashes frequently, making it hard to enjoy.”
    • “I experience constant lag and stability issues during gameplay.”
  • story
    3 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story in the game is criticized for its lack of depth and coherence, with developers relying on repetitive procedural generation instead of crafting a compelling narrative or engaging level design. While some players found enjoyment in the gameplay experience, the overall plot and flow were deemed unsatisfactory.

    • “The developer was unable to come up with decent level design or game/story flow/plot, so they opted to try to use samey repetitive procedural generation algorithms as a substitute for adding content to the game.”
    • “This game was like Chex Quest for 2021.”
  • humor
    2 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The humor in the game is characterized by its lighthearted and whimsical tone, featuring a charming protagonist navigating through various worlds filled with cute, amusing enemies. Players appreciate the clever ideas and enjoyable puzzles, making it a delightful and entertaining experience overall.

    • “You play as an unnamed Samus-like character exploring different worlds while solving puzzles, enjoying a relaxed environment, and defeating hilariously cute enemies.”
    • “Wow, what a fun little diversion! Some really nice ideas here, and a big thanks to Phroot for giving away one of the most fun and funny free games I've played this year!”
