    45 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The gameplay is praised for its unique, simultaneous turn-based mechanics combined with strategic depth and intuitive difficulty scaling, offering a fresh and engaging tactical experience. Players appreciate the fluid controls, charming visuals, and evolving mechanics that keep the game interesting despite being unfinished. However, some note the game's unfinished state and occasional lack of new mechanics in later stages.

    • “It uses this simultaneous turn-based mechanic (similar to Frozen Synapse) and it does it well, combining that with classic RPG mechanics like bosses, traits, and leveling up.”
    • “The mechanics are simple and the difficulty is ramped up in a really intuitive way that slowly offers the player new ways to see situations and learn the mechanics.”
    • “The gameplay is intuitive and fun, and surprisingly fluid for a turn-based tactics game.”
    • “Short story, nasty glitches and hard to execute mechanics.”
    • “The combat system has some cool ideas, but the game does very little with them, battles just increase in scale slightly, no new mechanics are added.”
    • “I'll update this sometime soon, but I'm going to leave the outdated stuff in because you don't just take stuff out of a game or dramatically change the mechanics.”
  • story
    37 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The story is intriguing and sets up a compelling scenario with strong character attachment, but it remains incomplete and relatively short due to the game being in early access with limited updates for years. While some find the narrative engaging and the tone foreboding, others feel it starts off somewhat conventional or underdeveloped, wishing for more character-driven side quests and deeper progression. Overall, the story shows promise but currently lacks depth and substantial content.

    • “An interesting setting with a fun story about invasion by an unknown force.”
    • “The story is cool and I'm already incredibly attached to all the characters.”
    • “There is a genuine sense of foreboding throughout the story which is nice.”
    • “The game is only unfinished, I would say in its campaign and story, which sadly I have hit the end of multiple times before an update brought new content.”
    • “The entirety of the game currently consists of a very short campaign (less than 10 levels, I think), and four class preview showcases (each is a single pre-made encounter with no story; for testing unit types).”
    • “The story isn't there, there's no customization and you'll probably finish all the single player missions in under an hour.”
  • music
    33 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The music in the game is widely praised for its nostalgic, charming soundtrack that evokes classic JRPGs and old GBA-era titles, perfectly complementing the pixel art style. Many users highlight the incredible, well-crafted compositions that blend fantasy adventure melodies with retro influences, creating a deeply immersive audio experience. Some express a desire for a downloadable soundtrack, underscoring the high appreciation for the music.

    • “Music and art: each song brings me back to old school JRPGs and Pokémon, specifically from the old GBA era, which meshes with the art style extremely well.”
    • “Music-wise, they have done an incredible job as well, with the style of music bringing me back to the days of Chrono Trigger, Tactics Ogre, and Final Fantasy Tactics, not as a carbon copy, but with the trappings and nostalgia of the era, with a personality all its own.”
    • “The soundtrack is amazing—a perfect blend of old and new, with undertones of pixely noises and an explosion of gushing fantasy adventure melodies that really speaks the game's nature without you even seeing it.”
    • “My only complaint as of right now is the lack of a soundtrack people can download and listen to, as there is a music player in-client, but no way to access files externally.”
    • “MP3 files for these music tracks would be a privilege and a luxury.”
    • “Music is... my only complaint.”
  • graphics
    27 mentions Positive Neutral Negative

The game features charming and tasteful pixel art graphics that evoke a nostalgic retro feel reminiscent of classic JRPGs and 8-bit aesthetics, blending minimalist designs with vibrant animations. Overall, the graphics are widely regarded as a standout aspect that enhances the game's atmosphere and appeal.

    • “Graphic-wise, the game has a really nice pixel-art, 8-bit aesthetic, reminiscent of 'sword & sorcery' with beautifully rendered environments and character designs, blending eastern and western influences.”
    • “The art style is cool pixel things that look minimalist at first, but then there's explosive art and really flashy little animations that pop around.”
    • “The simultaneous tactics system is fun to play with and full of potential while the graphics style manages to be both chunky and fine-grained in all the right places.”
    • “Quite unfortunate since the premise and art style was promising...”
    • “Art style, graphics....? ... well, we couldn't win them all- !!”
    • “It's very retro-style and clashes a little with the game's smooth, but elaborate art style.”
