The story of Final Fantasy XIV is widely regarded as one of its strongest aspects, with many players praising its emotional depth, character development, and intricate world-building. While the base game, A Realm Reborn, is often criticized for its slow pacing and numerous fetch quests, the narrative significantly improves in the expansions, particularly in Heavensward, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker, which are celebrated for their compelling storytelling and engaging plot twists. However, the latest expansion, Dawntrail, has received mixed reviews, with some players expressing disappointment in its narrative quality compared to previous installments. Overall, the game offers a rich, immersive story experience that resonates with many players, making it a must-try for those who appreciate narrative-driven gameplay.
“The story is the strongest point of Final Fantasy XIV, which isn't to say that any other part is a particular weakness.”
“The story is so deep, the characters are so rich, they are part of the world and the story makes you feel like part of it too.”
“The main story is incredibly well written, with characters that actually grow on you and moments that stay with you long after you log out.”
“Right now, after a large story moment in the first trial, the game took such a drop that I have zero interest in continuing.”
“The story cutscenes went from fighting for a future of the world to watching one of the creatures running around in panic with 'funny' music playing in the background.”
“The story is so bad that people who recommend the game swear up and down it gets better 700 hours in, 'just tough it out, we know it's bad but it gets better!' That's just a crazy amount of time to dedicate to something miserable when the point of playing a game is to enjoy it.”
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn -- Fine-al fantasy
A Realm Reborn fits well into the scene of MMORPG’s today while still retaining its identity as a Final Fantasy entry. Even so, while it does have a few genuinely novel features, it fails to add much to an already stagnant genre. If you like MMO’s and are looking for that next fix, then I suggest A Realm Reborn over its competitors, but if you have the means, then I’d say you should pick up the PC version of the game.
75%Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn PS4 Review
A Realm Reborn is an excellent game and one of the best MMOs on the market, regardless of what platform you’re playing it on. PC gamers who already own the game probably don’t have a huge incentive to pick this version up, but this is far and away the best version available if you don’t have access to a high end PC. If you already own the PS3 version, there’s no reason not to upgrade to this version. You’ll be glad you did.
90%Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn PS4 Review
A Realm Reborn is everything Square Enix wanted FFXIV to be and more, with a unique class system that gives players a freedom that’s not found in many MMORPGs today. It’s fun, it’s pretty, and Square Enix is 100% forgiven.
