The music in the game is a standout feature, with a vibrant EDM soundtrack that enhances the gameplay experience by synchronizing weaponry with the beat. While many players appreciate the unique mechanic of timing attacks to the music, some express frustration over the limited song selection and occasional awkward pauses in tracks. Overall, the integration of music into the gameplay is praised for its creativity, though players desire more variety and customization options in future updates.
“The soundtrack is filled to the brim with bangers, the game is colorful and every level is unique with its own personality.”
“The way your weapons synchronize with the music adds a huge immersion factor, and the fact that they used real EDM producers instead of some corny 8-bit track adds a huge bonus to gameplay.”
“Dubwars integrates music into the game so that your ship has unique attacks based on the song and the beats per minute, making it an interesting type of game.”
“Your weapons fire in time to the music, completely independent of how or when you want to shoot; an interesting mechanic, but one that ultimately falls flat.”
“It's not enjoyable when you've got a foe lined up in your sights, but the weapons/music won't cooperate.”
“Too bad that the song selection isn't that big, and there's no way to make your own custom ones.”

The graphics of the game receive high praise for their stunning visuals, unique art style, and vibrant effects, often described as beautiful and imaginative. However, some users note issues with clarity, particularly in busy scenes, and express disappointment over changes in graphical quality after updates. Overall, the combination of impressive graphics and engaging music enhances the gameplay experience, despite some criticisms regarding consistency and clarity.
“Awesome dubstep songs, amazing lights and visuals, great gameplay.”
“The graphics are stunning and super vivid, the music is incredible, the controls are super easy, and the concept of the game is one of a kind!”
“This game is just amazing, beautiful graphics, awesome and catchy music.”
“Runs well on Linux, but the graphics are a bit noisy (hard to make out player, enemy, and bullets on the flashy background).”
“What I mean by graphical effects is that they named the 'urban metaphor' drop laser; it doesn't look as cool as it did in a previous update.”
“The game is way too easy now, the difficulty/endless modes are gone, the game is incredibly buggy, and the art style is totally different.”

The gameplay is centered around timing and rhythm, requiring players to synchronize their attacks with the beat of the music to defeat enemies, which adds a unique challenge and immersion factor. While the mechanic of weapon firing in time with the music is innovative and enhances the experience, some players feel it limits their control and may detract from the overall challenge. The game features various challenges and score attack mechanics, but opinions are mixed on whether the rhythm-based approach enhances or hinders the gameplay experience.
“Awesome dubstep songs, amazing lights and visuals, great gameplay.”
“The whole mechanic of the game is based on each individual song, so you get a much more responsive feel to each level.”
“The way your weapons synchronize with the music adds a huge immersion factor, and the fact that they used real EDM producers instead of some corny 8-bit track adds a huge bonus to gameplay.”
“The gameplay is basic; you get wubs (currency) that you use to upgrade your attacks. Each attack is tied to a certain beat that triggers your ship's weaponry, and you kill the enemies that appear based on the beat of the music. The entire basis of this game is timing. You need to time your shots and know the beat of the music to anticipate what shots are going to appear. You also need to balance dodging enemies while knowing what your next attack is going to be. Some people might like this, and some won't, but to me, this game feels like every other top-down game with just music playing in the background as you defeat enemies. If you could fire whenever you wanted, it wouldn't add a challenge.”
“However, this mechanic is also the game's downfall.”
“And god, are you going to need these upgrades, because the gameplay itself has become very hard.”

The game's story aspect is criticized for its lack of a coherent narrative, with players expressing a desire for a more structured storyline. Additionally, numerous glitches detract from the experience, such as being stuck on a chosen side after dying and poorly executed visual effects when destroying ship parts. Overall, the absence of a compelling story and the presence of technical issues significantly undermine the game's potential.
“No storyline - maybe a recommendation for the feature?”
“The new spawning system for this level is a floating dungeon with creepers and spiders, but I do wish there was a way to destroy these dungeons because they do tend to spam my screen.”
“But this system is broken because whenever you die, you're stuck on whichever side you choose. You're glitched on that side and have to restart to be able to choose the other side.”
